Barneveld Tornado 40 years later: Stories from that night and how the community is moving forward 

Kelly was the chief meteorologist at WKOW. He and his team knew there was the potential for severe weather, but they couldn't imagine the strength of the storm that hit the small Iowa County community of Barneveld.
An F5 tornado barreled right through the middle of town just before 1 a.m. There was no warning.
A tornado watch had been in place for a few hours, Kelly explained. But the funnel cloud touched down right outside city limits, and he said, by then, there was no time left.
