Oh yeah, Barney Miller was one of my favorites in the 70s when I watched them. I watch the reruns nowadays on one of the cable stations and they still make me laugh out loud.
I used to not be a fan of BM . I mean I'm 54 and don't ever remember my parents watching it. Now it's on Antenna TV and in the past year it's kinda grown on me. Until Jack Soo died they were pretty good. I seen this episode and I have to say this is the funniest episode they ever made. Yeah about 40 years late, but I'm a fan now.
I was in college at the time, studying Bus. Ed. & Real Estate. Ever since this episode, whenever I buy some brownies at a bakery, or someone makes some for me, my first thought is: "Are these hash-brownies?" Then, as I eat them: "Mooshi-mooshi."
There are many memorable lines in this groundbreaking episode. My favorite is when Fish slams the door, turns, grabs his head and says, " Oh, my God! What am I talking about?! "
This episode and Werewolf, Turkey's Away from WKRP, Chuckles Bites The Dust from MTM, The Innkeepers and Ham Radio from Frasier, Lionel's Engagement from All In The Family, Suspicious Minds and The Romantic Weekend from Martin and Mama's Baby, Poppa's Maybe from Sanford and Son are some of the funniest and greatest sitcom episodes of all time!
This is without a doubt the funniest segments of this show ever! How those guys did their parts straight is beyond me, but they hit that affect right on the nose. Funniest line in the whole damn episode was when fish head discovered what happened and said first time I felt good and years and it has to be illegal
I agree 1000%. I find that many of the classic sitcoms have an episode (or episodes) that serve as ground zero of their comic sensibilities. Mary Tyler Moore Show had "Chuckles Bites the Dust", All in the Family (had many) But the Sammy Davis Jr. Visit comes to mind. Barney Miller has this episode.

I am SOOOO glad I grew up in an era when TV was real entertainment...not all of this "reality" garbage. Has nobody figured out the premise of the Bachelor yet...guy makes out with 25 girls, 24 rejected girls who "loved" the guy come back to talk about how bad of a person he is, guy & girl he "chose" break up before the show even airs. Hate to spoil it for you...but the Bachelorette...same thing just a girl "chosing" guys.
We got this reality show Scheiße because of a Writer’s Guild (West) strike some 22 years ago, because the networks refused to pay the writers (too damn greedy) their due residuals when the programs they wrote ended up streaming online, so the TV networks flooded the airwaves with easily produced, scripted fecal matter that literally costs them next to nothing to create in comparison to their TV dramas. A cameraman, an EP, a director, a few b-movie writers, and some nobody they dragged off the street that they pay chickenfeed to “star” in their dreck is all they needed. It’s cheap crap, and of course Americans ate it up with a spoon. And it’s been lowering the level of public discourse ever since! It’s like they took the 1976 movie Network and used it as a how-to instructional manual, leaving us all worse off from the experience. I refuse to watch them, I think they actually lower our collective IQ, and makes us all dumber. I defy anyone to tell me how any of the “real” housewives of Americastan or a woman who refuses to keep her legs shut (for Jesus, of course) and fields from her uterus two complete baseball teams worth of children, one who’s beloved by Republicans and a kiddie porn aficionado, makes us better citizens or better human beings. People have the attention span of gnats today, so it’s well suited to current audiences. We need to renegotiate the “deal” made between William Paley (CBS)/David Sarnoff (NBC) and the American people, when they went down to Congress and made the deal of the millennium for control of America’s airwaves in the 1940s for FREE! The country’s most influential media is nothing but a greed-filled, feckless whorehouse run by television pimps today.
@@davidstrohl Heck yeah! Current ``network`` TV is crap, most of the cable stuff is not far behind. Wouldn`t hurt my feelings if they stopped making any new shows or movies at all. Its mainly garbage. But of course they have to keep the gigantic multi billion $$ hamster wheel going...

I think it's cool that Barney acts like a father figure to the guys, they go to him whenever they need advice. Wojo more so sees him as a fatherly figure.
Apparently, Linden was upset that all the others had funny lines but he didn't. Danny Arnold explained to him, " You're the anchor that holds it together. " Linden took that to heart and played Barney like that for the rest of the series.
Yea, sure, funny show. But imagine believing this reefer madness propaganda this show is spreading. Sad. Seems like cave man times almost. So ignorant.
