Changes in Your Barometers Readings Will Predict the Weather! Go To! ClockParts.com to view your Barometer Options
Reach Us At: 888-827-2387
The barometer is the most important weather instrument because it helps you to predict weather changes.
Barometers measure air pressure in “inches of Mercury” or in “millibars”. Air pressure changes normally indicate changes in the weather.
High pressure areas and low pressure areas, called “fronts” basically determine our weather. Changes in air pressure are what you need to pay attention to.
Your barometer actually has two different hands, or indicators. The black indicator hand always points to the current air pressure. The gold “constant” indicator can be turned to match the current barometric pressure. This makes changes easy to see.
A change to high pressure means good weather is ahead. A change to low pressure means bad weather is on the way. You can’t change it, but at least you can be prepared.
Our barometers are factory calibrated. It’s highly unlikely that you will be using your barometer at the same altitude as the factory.
Your new barometer has to be calibrated to your location after you receive it. Any local television or radio station will have this information. Calibrate your barometer during the local evening news.
Take a Look At Our Barometers by Going To:
www.clockparts.com/new-2-3-4-...
If you look on the back of our barometers, you will see a small brass slotted screw. Gently turn in either direction no more than 1 revolution to adjust the barometric pressure reading.
If the weatherman say it’s 30.2 inches of mercury, then change the black indicator to about 30, then move to the little 2 to the right. If it’s 29.5 inches of Mercury, then go to the left and look for the “29” then the little “5”.
You have now calibrated your barometer. Turn the little brass knob and hand in the middle of the barometer face to match the black indicator hand. Now you will be able to see and “predict” short term changes in the weather.
We have a nice selection of barometers for your next DIY Project. Call us at: 888-827-2387 to get started today!

When I was in high school, I renenber reading that, before you record your barometer reading, you should GENTLY tap the side of the baropmeter casing until the needle (the black needle in this case) stops moving. This compensates for the drag that is inherent in the barometer mechanism, insuring a more accurate, more reliable, more consistent reading.

I live in London and am suffering from a bad sinus headache. Found this video whilst looking for barometer information as drastic changes in pressure can bring on headaches. Have learned so much in such little time. Loved this one as I never even gave it a thought that barometers would need to be calibrated. Makes sense. Am now a subscriber. Cheers Clock Man. ⏰🥂

I just got blown away... no pun intended. I inherited a worthless weather gauge, wooden wall hanger. It's been around the my parents home since maybe like the 1950's. I NEVER really knew what it was or what it is supposed to do, accept for temp & hum. After listening to this video I checked the barometric pressure on the net. This thing is still spot on!!!!!!!! Says "made in Germany" not China.

Solid information. I have a vintage old school barometer like what my parents had in their house when I was a kid it was produced in West Germany. My father gave it to me as a gift since he knew I always admire the one at their house when I was growing up as a child. It did not seem like it was reading properly. I was nervous about calibrating it at first but it was actually very simple. I’ve been figured in elevation offset for the area that I live in. This video was very informative and simple to understand. Thank you so very much.

This is a great instructive video. When we film storms/tornadoes, everyone in weather relies on the barometer as much as the temperature fluctuations. Hi. I hate it to use always my smart phone to find out about the weather, temperature and wind. It works not, if I don´t have Internet. Internet costs, and I am not willing to pay these costs. So I wondered how my grandparents and people from earlier ages could find out about weather predicting. So it came to my mind, that my parents also had a barometer at home to find out about weather changes. So I will look out for one, because I am fed up with the smart phone and I don´t like to wait for the radio weather news, or turn on the internet. I am 34 and it took me a while to find out how this gorgeous tool is called. This is kind of shocking, that it took me so long to remember about something so cool and handy thing. Yeah, thank you very much for your explanation. All knowledge came back and now I try to get a barometer. :D And i will place a thermometer outside my window to find out about weather temperature outside. :D So I can get up every morning and now it in a second just by a look. (with out de-coding the phone, turning on the internet and paying for something which was decades ago without any costs) Lovely greetings from Austria/Wien.

This was very clarifying, thank you. And that's even though my Sper barometer isn't in inches of mercury or millibars but rather mm or hectopascals. Very annoying. I got lucky finding a site that told me 1000 hpa is the same as 1000 millibars. Whew. Plus Sper was good enough to maark the outer ring mm but with 2 digit numbers. So 1000 hpa/1000 millibars is 750 mm of mercury but it reads 75. I didn't realize it was conventional to drop the zero. I felt like a little kid learning to read a clock. You made this process much easier.

Hello, may i ask , how do i set an aneroid barometer when i live on a 920 meter altitude, if i follow the information on the net, it says at 920 meter it should be set to 26.5 in hg, but there is no 26.5 on the scale as you know it starts from 28 - 29 - 30 - 31 , there is no less on the scale, so how to set on this altitude ?

I came to try to figure out what the readings mean. if the needle moves from 30.0 to 30.1 what does that mean ? if it happens over a few minutes. assuming you are not on the top of that high-rise taking the elevator down. or what if that takes 6 hours ? is there some range of movement that screams, get that wind breaker or umbrella ?
@erichaller9822
@erichaller9822 4 года назад
From what I understand, it is dependent on how quickly the “front” Or storm so to speak is traveling due to Being driven by wind. Sometimes when it is windy, And the sky is some what clear You can physically see clouds that have sinking air affecting them. I also look at the lenticular clouds around high peaks such as volcanoes. That is also a visual indicator that barometric pressure is changing weather it is rising or falling.

@@nicksantitoro The barometer tells you if a low pressure cell is approaching along with the rain producing front that often is associated with it. Not all rain storms are caused by low pressure fronts. A good example is the afternoon thunderstorms that are produced by locally unstable rising air. Your question was posted three years ago but if you still have the barometer look for when fronts are forecasted for your area. If a hurricane should head your way, you will see quite a big drop it in the pressure. I find that in my area, the rain often wraps around the low pressure cell. So what usually happens is that the pressure drops rapidly. Then it rises rapidly. It's when that rapid rise occurs that the rain storm moves in from behind.

This gentleman knows everything about barometers as technical devices, and how to use and calibrate them. However, knowing how to use one requires some knowledge of basic meteorology and physics. It could be that he is deliberately cutting corners to attract audions who are not really interested in weather physics. Or, maybe he is trying not to irritate those potential customers who have a problem with a spherical earth. 1. 0:41 High pressure systems and low pressure systems are NOT fronts. Those are separate weather phenomens that can exist independently. Though majority of fronts in middle latitudes are connected to LOW pressure systems (and therefore associated with the other), one can still exist without the other. HIGH pressure systems do not generate fronts. 2. 1:29 the first sentence is the over-simplified basic principle of how wind is created. The wind direction is not just from high pressure to low pressure, because the coriolis effect turns wind flow to right in northern hemisphere (and to left in southern hemisphere). This makes winds in northern hemisphere go clockwise around the high pressure systems and counterclockwise around low pressure systems. As a result, the wind direction is almost parallel to the isobar lines, rather than perpendicular to them (this would be the case if wind direction was from low center to high center). 3. As for calibrating the barometer, knowing the absolute barometric pressure is just a "nice to know" feature, but little use in predicting weather. In all practical purposes, it really does not matter if the barometer is calibrated absolutely correctly or not. It is the CHANGE that matters. The more change in a period of time, the stronger winds are to be expected.
