Barrel Racing at the Minot Trail Riders. PeeWee barrel racers will be first, followed by the open racers and ending with the youth barrel racers. Thanks for wathching
Yeah not true, not all barrel racing is about speed. It’s about gaining confidence and experience. You don’t always have to be the fastest to be the winner, or the best.
I agree. I’ve never seen so many horses run by barrels. They clearly aren’t hunting them or enjoying their job. The riders need to hop the f*ck off and go back to horsemanship and slow work/drills etc. Agree to disagree. 👌🏾
The girl that fell off at 3:25 I think it was, she was on the forehand when the horse was trotting which most often does throw a horse off balance, and you can also tell that the horse was very heavy on the forehand at the trot, walk, and canter. I'm no barrel racer, but I do drill riding and natural horsemanship, so I'm really good at picking these things out.
@@sarahandcookieSome horses need spurs - their either too lazy or don’t wanna do something, and they have to. Some can be not so good for horses and some can be fine for horses. Usually you have to get your horse used to spurs.
Good grief, I knew by the thumbnail Paint was gonna buck. And then it looked at that first barrel like it was a monster. Smh That grey horse with the little guy in the green shirt was awesome.
TogetherWeFly176 ikr, why use spurs that severe on a green (and overweight) horse when you know you arent going to place and arent even really trying to win🤔
I hate it when people like this who rip their horses face of and whip them so hard that it puts scars in them barrel race, I barrel race I they are creating a bad name for barrel racers. Disgusting
Agreed!! Overly kicking and yanking on the reins annoys the heck out of the horse. You can see his horse is actually enjoying himself. That force is not necessary for speed if the horse is having fun.
I like how the little girl on the paint can barely trot and they strapped spurs on her 🙈🙄 then gabs him and he takes off... ugh some of these are hard to watch.
Some of the riders need training and most of the horses need training, but it's amazing how angry people who have never run barrels or never been competitive at it get over things they don't understand. The horse's job is to run fast and make tight turns. They get a lot of momentum going. You need a bit that can stop that momentum before you hit the fence. Your priority should be safety, and part of being safe is making sure you can stop in time. A lot of them need spurs to keep them off the barrel going in and have them complete the turn going out. The head and the body don't always go the same way, which is why you sometimes have to have spurs to push them over. A lot of these people aren't even making much contact with their spurs. They're hitting their back cinches, which doesn't do anything more than a regular kick. I also really like the whips with fuzzy ends a lot of them have. They don't hurt. They're awkward to use and are basically an empty threat. They only hurt when your friend is riding past you and decides to take aim when you aren't looking. Little kids should be wearing helmets, but there comes a point where you're a grown adult and you can decide whether or not to wear one. Personally, I don't. I've always found them uncomfortable and I have a couple of incredibly sure footed horses that I can trust aren't going to dump me. A helmet also isn't going to help if you land wrong. You can still break your neck with a helmet on. I've never had an accident that did any damage, but I know it could happen at any time, and I accept that as my risk and ride defensively. I don't do stupid things and don't take green horses away from the house unless they're doing an in hand class. These people have the right to ride as they please, and most of them are actually being pretty nice. Almost all of them totally give the horses their heads to run home. It's just a matter of slowing down where you need to and the can't stop wont stop mentality of a barrel horse. Plus, no one here knows what these horses are like outside the arena. One of my horses can gather cattle bridleless at home, but she'll dump you if you attempt to run barrels in anything less than a mild correction bit. Use her normal bit and she runs a fast clean pattern with only verbal cues for speed. It all just depends on the horse and how they respond cues and what they're like in different environments.
3:18 the problem with me are the spurs! Spurs are not abusive if used properly, but in this case that girl put pressure on the horse to run back to the finish. which sent her into a rough spring she was not prepared for. Those spurs kept hitting the horse! Which caused it to buck!! Just an observation.
The horse was lame before he came into the arena. The horse weighs 900 pounds wet. The rider is an easy 260. This is NOT the first time this rider and many like her have taken a bump. You are 100% correct, a helmet would have helped, but putting down the burritos and Twinkies will help a hell of a lot more.
Jude Stringfellow yeah true. I didn't want to say that on here bc I fear that a lot of the riders or their moms or dads would see the comment about their weight
If the runs were more consistent i could tell better but it appears to be standard? I spoke too soon I think standard those seniors were all about the same time with good runs.
19:20 is Gross she needs to loosen up her Rains and do some ground work and know how To disengage her horses hind courtiers so the Horse can't get away from her. Not trying to hate just saying it would Really help.
I feel so bad for the girl at 2:47. She was TERRIFIED, tense, and inexperienced. She had a death grip on that saddle horn. Not to mention, that horse is too much for her. I could tell that sucker was going to buck the moment she got to the first barrel. Pairing inexperience with inexperience gets someone hurt and kills confidence. This little girl may never want to ride anymore because of it. She needs a “been there and done that” horse to learn the basics on until she gains more confidence in herself and learns to trust her horse 😔
Everybody is doing well I just wouldn’t suggest letting kids use spurs unless the used them correctly I use spurs cause I need them and use them and I have a reason
No one should use spurs honestly. Horses skin is actually thinner than ours and has more nerve endings meaning that it hurts even more for them than if it were us getting spurred.
At 23:20 with the paint I’m not saying she’s fat she just looks a tiny bit big for him so he can’t get on top of the ground but he’s such a good horse for standing there ❤️
I started watching these videos this summer and caught up with the riders by watching older videos. I'm really surprised you don't show the girls having clinics and learning how to ride. It's heartbreaking to see the way they treat their horses and everyone's just OK with that. If you can, get together and hire a professional or two to give you tips and lessons.
No actually, the horses don’t know how to run by themselves. Some may know a little, but they still need a jockey. And many horses have speed in them, but won’t use it unless they are given strong cues
Took it way too far? Please tell me where do you think this horse and rider are at? I can give you a little backstory before you go out handing you crude and confusing suggestions.

@@8pinehorsemanship438 don't u ever say that disrespectful bitch that horse was doing fine with her what gives u the right to say that keep rude comments to your self you prick u won't ever say that again about my cousin
stop with whipping horse horses so hard and wearing spurs and not using them appropriately! i’m a barrel racer and my horse is very fast and i started her green i don’t own a single whip and no spurs too. and that shows you that you don’t need that because my horse is extremely fast without whips and spurs.
And most of the ppl riding the horses are using whips, spurs or their reins to whip there horses to go faster. If u have the right training u don't need theses. I can cluck to my horse and she'll go faster no whips no spurs and no whipping the horses with the reins
Actually, believe it or not, spurs can be really useful if used correctly. People that are completely against spurs use the argument that they’re abusive, but even a leather rein can be abusive if used incorrectly… My horse can be ridden without a saddle or bridle and responds to the slightest pressure from my leg, but another horse I just started working with has bad habits and is unresponsive. For these horses, I use spurs to get them sensitive to my leg pressure, and in about a week of training, I no longer need to use the spurs
If I could ONLY say what I want to say. This group needs so much work, so much direction, and so many hours of dedicated practice. To allow young women to become so obese in the first place is unacceptable, but to allow them ride horses and fall off, kick, spur, whip, and yank like maniacs is horrid. You don't follow NBHA rules. You allow animal abuse. You encourage accidents to happen when you don't speak up regarding weight limits on horses. A 1000 pound horse can ONLY (ONLY) take 20% of his/her weight INCLUDING the saddle. For Shonda to be in this event her horse would need to be 1500 pounds. I keep hoping that with each video I watch I will see improvement, but I don't. It would be so much better if the sponsors sat each contestant down and literally taught them how to ride. Lizzie, Kelsey, Carla, and a few others may be the only exceptions. HELMETS on kids would be AWESOME.
You're a little hard on them, but maybe they need to hear it. I'm a bigger gal too but I don't over stress my mare. I lost 40 pounds in 2011 and brought up my times. It does make a difference on their backs and joints just like it does on ours.
Jude Stringfellow you are just down right rude and horrid shut your mouth about people’s weight!!!!!!!! Before you judge people on weight think about what could be going on to cause it!!!!!! If you said that to my face I could assure you it wouldn’t end well at all! People like you is why over weight people eat more and get depressed and gain more weight!!!! Don’t be an idiot and keep your stupid comments off the internet
@@sarahfisher469 The thing is that horses really do have weight limits. Theres nothing wrong with not being stick figure skinny, women are beautiful in all shapes and sizes but it's important to ride a horse that can comfortably carry you! 20% rule always! It's not that they shouldn't ride, and it's not that they aren't perfect just the way they are, we just need to think about our horses health and comfort!
Folks, PLEASE for the love of god and all things holy. LET.OUT.OF.YOUR.HORSES.FACE! You’re giving them stop and go cues at the same time and wanna act surprised when you get thrown! Its your fault! Your horse is about confused at hell and doesn’t know what to do!
