Recently, we hiked the Jewel Pass via the Prairie View Trail in Kananaskis. The trail-head begins near the Barrier Dam at an elevation of 4,545 ft (1,385 m) and the trail to the top is 6.4 KM (4.0 miles) in length one way with an elevation gain of 610 m (2,000 ft).
The hike was classified as moderate but our bodies would disagree. 😂 but the view at the end was worth it. Enjoy the highlights
Getting there: Heading west from Calgary on Highway 1, drive until you reach the Stoney Nakoda Casino Resort and Casino on your left. You will take that exit onto Highway 40, and head south into Kananaskis. The parking lot for the hike is located on the north end of Barrier Lake, only a few kilometers down the road, on your right hand side of the road.
