Barrio Cuatro Milpas Peace Treaty

In 1998, Indigenous visual storyteller Dorothy Christian Cucw-la7 of the Secwepemc-Syilx Nations traveled to the central city Chicano Barrios of Phoenix, Arizona to research, produce and direct the following documentary on the efforts of the Cuatro Milpas “Gang Members” to bring peace to their communities.
Today, over 25 years later, the surviving representatives of the original Cuatro Milpas Barrio Peace Treaty will reconvene and recommit to the Path of Peace with each other, with all of humanity and with Mother Earth in a ceremonial indigenous celebration known as Yohualpapalotl, occurring at dawn of the Butterfly Sun (Fall Equinox) on September 22, 2020.
The event will coincide with similar ceremonies being realized simultaneously throughout the continent in exercise of our inherent right of Self Determination as Original Nation of Indigenous Peoples and in reaffirmation of our responsibilities as defenders of the Territorial Integrity of Mother Earth.
