Chip, I never forget when you said that your Dad always told you to pay attention to the details. And there you are fixing little details like a sharp edge on the wheels, still following your Dad's advice. I too follow your Dad's advice and I've learned that little details are actually a big deal!
The chief engineer of the Lincoln vehicle office back the late ‘60s always lectured his team on the importance of “TREMENDOUS TRIFLES”. He also included features in his cars, not mentioned in the advertising, to “SURPRISE AND DELIGHT” the customer.
All your videos are great, but this series has been particularly awesome. Thanks for helping to preserve this great piece of automotive history, and for sharing it with us.
As much as I enjoyed O'haulin, removing all the TV drama is so refreshing. We get to see you scratching your head and are privy to the thoughts in your head, your art, your hands, your appreciation of car culture. This is Reality TV. Chip, you are real.
I like how some guys try to give training to other guys who are really good at what they do. It's like being a good driving and knowing the roads and someone telling you where to turn to get there. Maybe they need help sometimes, but you are watching a master at work.
If a video, like this, with the doowop music, the car, Chip just talking us through his ideas and thought process, ran on for HOURS... I could watch it all, in one shot! These are VERY relaxing, to an old head, like me, that was born into a gearhead family!
Hopefully whoever buys it won't put in an LS engine, Roadster Shop chassis, and giant brakes. Lol. That car is a time capsule and much appreciate the meticulous preservation you're doing. Thank you Brock for the video's. Nicely edited with the era correct style music. Would love to see it being driven.
This was such an important time period. Early Barris and how he inspired so many. So many of us with memories of cars that did not survive. I can’t tell how important this car is and the work being done to preserve it. Bravo
A beautiful car touched by 3 car legends is priceless!! A new lucky owner will surely appreciate all their hard work, efforts, and special touches making it. 1of 1 unique car. Great job Sir Foose👍
This is so cool. I was wondering if maybe for the gold resto, you could take a page out of the portrait painting restoration book and cover the original paint with a clear barrier that's easily removed but won't hurt the original paint. That way you can work with different shades until you hit the perfect one, and if anyone ever wants to remove it, it can be done without hurting the original paint. I dunno. Just an idea.
I said it too, look, my shirt has a chip... I love your merchandise, I think I have all your shirts, caps and the book... hoodies and many more things, greetings 👾👾👾👾
10:03 drove home (pun intended) for me at least how far automobile design has come in the last 70 years. Keeping in mind this is an automatic transmission, look at the gear selector indicator as they pan across the dashboard.
Hotwheels did pretty good this year with the Hirohata Merc in 2 colorways, complete with tiny Barris Kustom tampo logo for $1.20. I'd like to see this licensed to HW for a "mint" original candy looking version of this. 👀
I got a couple of those mercs...they are pretty cool for a 1/64 scale car. It's amazing that they can make them so close to the real one - color and all. !😊
Man oh man, Chip we are all so lucky that it was you who found this car and you taking us along to see the master show love to a well deserved Barris ride, kind of crazy to think stuff that is and nobody knows about, I have lived within 50 miles of North Bend since 1960 and the countless times being in North Bend I must have been in the area or who knows maybe really close once, it's truly been cool to see I can't rate it because it would just have to go shoulder to shoulder everything you touch or do.... Top step!
The only thing I would change is the exhaust to gold exhaust pipes on each side and paint the blue interior red and change the seats to red and gold it seems like something that was in the plan and they just didn't get around to it....... 😎😎😎
Ive always loved watching Chip apply his skill and attention to detail, its like an artist having a zen moment and sharing it with everyone - I still remember the stunning end result when he finished the grand master, absolutely world class ++-!
I got to have a 10 minute conversation with him last year, it was the first time meeting him. Neither of us even mentioned a word of what we do professionally, just a casual chat. And he showed us a photo of his then new girlfriend!
I am following you since the release of first episode of Overhaulin'. My dad had 1966 Chevelle (4 doors version) and 1978 Buick and I was in love with those cars. What you are now doing with this beautiful car is above all praise. May God bless you Mr. Foose. All the very best wishes from Ankara Turkey.
Chip and his team doing all this work to keep as much originality as possible and watch whistling diesel end up buying it. were gonna fill this all original 50-60s era show car with concrete and see how it holds up!
I'm glad Chip found this car and asked to help. It could have fallen to a flipper that just flat black painted it. Then sold it for as much as they could and it would be an invisible car to its history. It's a high water mark for the time of Hot Rod's., Bobby Socks and Rock n' Roll.
Now this is they way things like this are done and it's a damn shame that not too many shops like this even exist anymore, especially here in the northeast, out here we're totally screwed and on our own in the classic and custom car world, so many places like this have been regulated, taxed or fined right out of business!!! 😢
I know this isn't your bread and butter. But if you have a chance to do more of these preservation type builds please do! And if it's going to be shown at all back in the greater Northbend area please let us know since I live right down the road!
What's wrong with the OG wheels?? The car's never gonna get driven at any sort of serious speed for any length of time. Why not keep the car as OG as possible??
Paxton / McCulloch Supercharger, very cool, and great story on itself. The shifter pattern display, gear selector is an interesting set of chose's = N, D, S, L, R. No park setting. park brake?
Chip fully explains what was wrong. They had a ridge on the edge of the rim making it really sharp. So he’s softening them down to make it easier to paint and not potentially cause a blowout
The old wheels needed new tires. I assume chip didn't want to mess with them and wanted to be able to provide the original wheels and tires with the car when it sells, so he got new wheels that can easily take a radial tire for a new set for driving.
