Padawan Barriss Offee was presented as a kind and gentle-hearted person.. So what could cause her to turn to the darkside? My findings are truly tragic..

I've been looking for Information on Bariss since Grogu used Force Heal I made huge notes about her based on canon and legends. Reasons for Bariss fall to the dark side: Luminara and her passivity during the Clone Wars - before the Clone Wars, Luminara was able to show emotions (the first battle for Geonosis and Luminara fear that Barriss would die ordered her to evacuate from the arena), however, something changed during the Clone Wars (the second Battle of Geonosis and Bariss survives because Anakin attachment) No support of any kind from other Jedi (except Ahsoka and Anakin) Obsesion to help others. During the first Battle of Geonosis, Bariss obsessed with helping the wounded. Several Jedi then told Luminara that Offee was not ready for war and her obsession with helping others could hurt her Later comes the war trauma, complete distrust of the Master, Force Heal, watching the Republic's war crimes and dark side.

Impressive! Adding background music to your commentary would help, around 3:15 the cut seemed a bit noticeable, and some silence (

Tells how disconnected spiritually luminara unduli was she expected Barriss to be a wind up toy she was a tragic story in that she developed because of trauma after trauma through out the war she was given specific attention because she was a Jedi beyond that if she were any other citizen or soldier she would have been treated very differently she struggled with addiction severe trauma and the list goes on that and the fact that the Jedi never truly gave a crap I am surprised it was not much worse

Luminara certainly wasn't the cold schutta some people make her out to be in the short story A Jedi's Duty which takes place only a day or so prior to the second battle of Geonosis.

When people say similar stuff about Luminara Unduli being cold and detached I always point them to the Legends book The Approaching Storm. There's a motherly bond she has with Barriss in that book and I really enjoy their interactions, as well as how they interacted with Obi-Wan and Anakin. It kinda sucks that we didn't get to see that as much in The Clone Wars series.

Dude this was very well done! I don’t hate the Jedi but I’ve always known there was hypocrisy amongst the them, I just could never properly put it together. The summarization of Luminara greatly shows this.

I agree with you about what " Turned " her . That does NOT mean Betrayal is OK . Not at all . She should have simply LEFT the Temple .

I agree. Betrayal is never the answer. However, learning why people do what they do is always necessary to prevent the same mistakes in the future. There are definitely things I take away from this as a father raising a little girl.

Just thought I'd let you know, A fanfic author called irhinoceri in archiveofourown actually posted a story called, "It's a bad wind that don't blow somebody some good" Barriss reunites with Ahsoka. It should be on their page. I recommend reading it. It used to be on fanfiction website itself before it was moved. It's a side story to the main one called, "Out of the dark valley" It takes place 15 years after Revenge of the Sith where Vader's mind gets sent back 15 years earlier before he force chokes Padme. They're difficult to find but both stories are worth it.

While your character analysis is quite accurate, in the end is ultimately flawed. If you look at Season 5- Episode 18 @1:49 seconds you see Barris leaving the Jedi funeral contrasting Anakin and Ashoka, literally mirrored. And Barris is clearly under durres but is also being guided by Admiral Tarkin, which clearly indicates that's his influence on Barris is what ultimately radicalizes Barris to attack the Jedi ministry.

Bro listening to her say this a bit older actually you can tell sidious probably killed her or used her for the cloning process. Barriss wasn’t part of the sith. She was greatly trying to grab the attention of everyone so they can see too. But what’s so sad is Barriss used Ashoka. And Ashoka was a great Jedi but I guess in truth Barriss probably felt sad that Ashoka experienced so much but was continuing the battles.

She would make a fine Inquisitor. She was following the Imperial propaganda narrative before there was an Empire.

Having the Jedi enter the war as warriors was like giving a Salvation Army member a gun, pushing them onto the front lines, and expecting them to settle everything. I'm one of those few people that thinks that war is sometimes necessary, but not something that should be rushed into - only as a last resort when diplomacy is pointless. I don't think the Jedi knew how to balance diplomacy and warfare anymore, considering the last time they faced a war on the galactic scale had been well over a millennia against the Sith Brotherhood, followed immediately by the Ruusan Reformation (I highly doubt the Army of Light bothered to pass down any pointers to their descendants after the Sith Brotherhood wiped themselves out with that thought bomb). I really believe Luminara's disconnected relationship had the greater part to do with Barriss' fall, and that her claim about the Jedi order having fallen from the light was really just a smoke screen designed to hide her true motives behind her attack - she essentially went with the more believable claim that would more likely be accepted by the Republic.. not that it was a smart choice to begin with. And I really think where Barriss' decline began to take a noticeable dip was the second Battle of Geonosis. Having already been buried under a collapsing factory and then being controlled by Geonosian brain worms (probably a pretty painful experience if I'm being honest). she probably could have used some TLC or just the company of her master. But considering that Anakin was sitting next to Ahsoka, waiting for his padawan to wake up, and he had been on the same Star Destroyer as Luminara, it stands to reason that she didn't even bother to visit her own padawan who had just been through a harrowing couple of days and was holed up in the medbay. I believe that this particular point was where Barriss started to really slip, and, unfortunately, the show seems to have glossed over it.

In the canon, before the battle, something was already wrong. Barriss had problems with meditation and focus before the departure to Geonosis. Tutso had to help her concentrate and took her to meditate next to a tree. According to legend, her trauma started after the first battle of Geonosis, and going back to the planet and experiencing the effects of the second battle only intensified the trauma. It's obvious that she didn't want to go there. The last time she was there, she witnessed the Jedi massacre. All of her friends died. The only Padawans who survived were her and Anakin. And I fully agree that Luminara failed as a Master and as a Jedi.
@darthmeta6445
@darthmeta6445 Год назад
@@hehu4025 You know what, you're right - I COMPLETELY forgot that Barriss had already been to Geonosis before the factory/brain worm incident. It never occurred to me that she would be having emotional issues with returning to the planet a second time! Just another issue to pile on top of the others for our poor Barriss, I guess.
@hehu4025
@hehu4025 Год назад
@@darthmeta6445 Then there's Umbara, Phorose and other battles. It seems to me that every battle was a literal slap in the face for her. Here's a little quote from the legends where Barriss and Ahsoka are right after the Battle of Umbara: "But what else can we believe?" Her voice was filled with a struggle of sadness and anger. "All I see is death and destruction. How can we fight for something that seems so hopeless?" She resisted her own emotions for 3 years, this is an impressive result, many would break after the first few months.

@@hehu4025 Umbara was hell for everyone involved. I think that was the first time the Republic has come up against an organized, disciplined planetary force that wasn't a bunch of droids. And the damn-near hellish environment didn't help. Still, nothing really seems to have gone well for Barriss at all.

She framed Ahsoka.
@clintjamison1347
@clintjamison1347 Год назад
@@fighterck6241 that’s not fair. When it initially happened ahsoka was off world and far from the incident. When she came back barriss said “just forget about it” because she wanted ahsoka as far from it as possible Ahsoka volunteered to investigate, and barriss did what she had to do and killed Letta. At this point they already thought it was Ashoka, and barriss freed her after that. If the objective was to frame Ahsoka it was done when she was in custody so why free her?
@hehu4025
@hehu4025 Год назад
@@clintjamison1347 I partially agree with that. The problem is that we don't quite have Barriss's canonical perspective. My information is from a book based on the Barriss Arks that were never made (early scripts) consider this as part canon and part legend Barriss actually never wanted to hurt Tano, and she wanted to confess to Ahsoka or persuade Ahsoka to leave the order. Ahsoka wanted to be involved in the investigation. Plus what she said "This woman will pay for what she did" This is the most important moment Barriss is devastated. Paranoia and fear were the only emotions. Plan B to kill Letta at any cost. By complete accident, someone told Letta that Ahsoka was the person she could trust. Of course Barriss was behind it too because who else could have told her. Barriss knew that Letta might tell her the truth or something might go wrong, so she instructed her to contact Ahsoka because she wanted Tano to be the first and only one to know. But that was plan A, plan B is to kill Letta (so no one will know) Ahsoka was accidentally framed (wrong time, wrong place). However, out of fear, Barriss decided to continue.
@clintjamison1347

@@hehu4025 and that’s exactly what I think happened, and the fight with ahsoka and bariss was only to frame asajj ventress for the incident.
@hehu4025
@hehu4025 Год назад
@@clintjamison1347 Unfortunately, according to the book, Barriss tried to frame Ahsoka. She wasn't thinking rationally, it was almost improvisation because she was afraid. If she wanted to frame Ventress, she would have to fight aggressively like Ventress with two lightsabers, while deliberately avoiding the Jarkai style in combat because she trained with Ahsoka with two lightsabers. The fact that she provokes a fight and then defends Tano using her Soresu to lead Ahsoka to the right place suggests that Barriss wanted to frame Ahsoka at that point. If she wanted to frame Ventress, she could have done something totally different, like luring Ahsoka out and moving the unconscious Ventress to the nanodroid warehouse, or showing the clones that Ahsoka was fighting Ventress.

What led to her fall was Dave Filoni needing a highly contrived reason to ensure his pet character survived Order 66. :P
