I’m a White, suburban woman in my 50’s who grew up during the 70’s & 80’s loving Motown, Barry White and Earth, Wind & Fire. Loved Manilow too. Great music transcends all barriers.
I’m a 56 year old whites woman who listened to R&B and Funk in the 80s. Didn’t start listening to what is now “classic rock” until I got to college. We should be able to listen to whatever we like without judgment. My son was a death metal musician who liked 50s music, especially the Four Seasons. My husband and I went to see Slipknot and Barry Manilow in the same month. 😂
I’ve always said over the years that there are a lot of closet Barry fans. They don’t say it cause they fear people might laugh at them. I don’t care what people think, I’ve loved Barry from the first time I heard the song Mandy. I’m 55. Lol
Back in the 80's, when I was in my teens, Barry Manilow was a secret, guilty pleasure. I figured my headbanger friends would ostracize me if they found out. Now, approaching 50, I couldn't care less what people would think about it. Of course, I found out years later that most of those same friends also had similiar "secrets", but they too didn't want to mess up their "coolness". You can't beat time and maturity as the best provider of perspective.
Hey, I'm 56 and my sisters teased me me endlessly because what teenager in the hood of East Oakland listened to B-Man? Well, I didn't care anymore & I listened out loud. Love me some Barry Manilow.
I'm 25 and I was always open about loving Barry despite teasing I got from some of my peers in highschool. My first Barry concert I was the youngest person I could see anywhere and I was definitely the most amped about the show. I grew up on his music and am ever so thankful for it.
Just heard this song in 2023 for the first time ever. Can't believe I went years wirhout this powerful ballad. The words, the melody.....so beautiful. One of my favorites now.

Jim Steinman is amazing! To call him a modern day Mozart would be an understatement! He writes not only the music to his songs but the lyrics as well and considering Mozart had a much higher IQ then Einstein Steinman is definately a genius!
Jim Steinman originally wrote this for Meat Loaf who performed it on his 1981 album _Dead Ringer._ I believe he rewrote some of the lyrics for Barry's version.
@@antster1983yes and he also wrote the hits for some of the biggest names in music like Celine Dion, ALL of Meat Loaf's albums (not just dead ringer) Barry Manilow, Barbara Streisand, Air Supply, Bonnie.Tyler and i believe Modanna as well!
Barry, I'm a 55 year old from Baltimore MD. I have seen you in concert numerous times from my teens in the mid Atlantic region. Don't ever forget your life's accomplishments and the mark you'll leave on this world. Your one of the greatest showman ever. Your songs will live in infamy. Thank you , from me and your biggest fan my mom . Elliott Haft.

Barry...Haven't found this for awhile, but it is so unique and different from what you usually do. I love this one. Only YOU could look as handsome as a Joker as you are in person. Still I don't really understand the story, but you are great, as usual. Love you always and forever.................................................................The Dancing Queen BB 1965. Oh, I hope you had a great show in the UK tonight. I'm sure it was a blast. They love you over there as much as we love you here...................Take care and Eat and Sleep, please............Betsy Basile
It was a shame that Barry Manilow was ridiculed by various TV comedians for how he looked rather than his performances during his hey day in the late 70's and early 80's because his music was truly out of this world especially the lyrics in his songs. I had liked his music then and still do to this day.
Hello I really do appreciate you for being a big fan, thank you for your wonderful comments on my post,it really means a lot to me.I sincerely hope you never stop listenin to my music….❤️❤❤
I've been a fan of Barry's since I was 11, obviously I didnt know about love or romance at such a young age but I loved his voice, him as a performer and his songs resonated with me even at that age. A treasured memory is my lovely mom buying me his LP for a Christmas present, I was so chuffed I just kept looking at the cover, I still have the LP and I'm 56 now. Love you Barry ❤ x
Mr. Manilow's last major hit. #18 on The Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on both The Canadian and US Adult Contemporary Charts. It was #1 for 6 weeks on The US AC Charts.
Love this video. How can you look so handsome with Jester makeup on and then the real Barry comes into the theatre and he looks just as handsome as you do. Love this one............................Betsy B

This is one of my favorites right now. Can't say I understand it yet, but I love the song and Barry, as a Jester and your real self. Going to watch it again Love, Barry,~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Betsy Basile

Am I the only one who loves the extreme smoothness and stillness after the bombastic conclusion which starts @5:00 and that slight stutter/pause as he stops at "Come on and look at me and read 'em" and starts it again with that bluesy guitar layered in?
Read 'em and Weep is probably the most unique video that Barry has done. I still do not understand the story behind it, but Barry playing the part of a Jester or Joker is really great. He also mentions guns and bullets which is very unusual to sing about that. I do love the video especially with Barry(The Jester) and Barry (The real Barry) in the back of the theatre. Love both of you Barries....Betsy B
I haven't seen this one for awhile, but I love the story behind it, Barry. To think that a man could look as handsome playing a joker with makeup and costume on. Only you Barry..Only YOU. And then we have the real Barry in this one too. Love it and you whether it is the real you or dressed as a Joker. Your devoted fan...................Betsy Basile
Barry, you even look so handsome in Jester costume. I still can't seem to figure this one out, but I love this one so much, I just go back to it over and over.........................Love it and you.......................Betsy
Barry....What a remarkable video this is and I love it. it's at the top of my list right now. Love you as the Jester and your real self. Love you.........................BB
My wonderful husband just bought tickets to go see Barry at The Hollywood Bowl for my birthday!! I've always loved Barry Manilow and my dream is coming true to finally see him in concert! 💖 Thanks my love!
+Antony Shepherd It's pretty amazing. The same style, yet not all the same. I remember the first time I heard 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now' on the radio; I made it about 8 seconds in and went 'I know who wrote this!.' lol
This one is a winner too, Barry . I love to watch this one especially when you are dressed as a Joker or Jester. It is very unique for you as you rarely mention guns and bullets, but I love the video. Love you always...............................................Betsy Basile
Something triggered me to find the song after a few years... I got to tell you Barry, this song Encapsulates every great relationship I've ever had regardless of how they turned out. The song has been like acts in my love life lol. Like many comments here, I didn't tell a lot of people I liked your music because I didn't want to be labeled a certain way. From that I hope to pass on to my kids to not care what anybody thinks. Also, I used to sing. I can't smile without you to my boys every night when I put them to bed. They still remember me doing it 🙂 thank you for all the joy and emotion you bring.
One of the best Barry manilow tunes the drum's are awesome. One of the most underrated songs by manilow you never hear played that's a damn shame. Takes me back to high school. A time machine tune. I know it was probably wrote for meatloaf but manlows version is the best

Barry...Only you can carry this one off, playing a Jester or Joker and still looking as handsome as you look without all the makeup. Thanks you shoring this on. Love ya.......................Betsy B.

Watching this video again. I still have not figured out the gist of it and what the woman is doing at the end of the video. Love the words and the notes on this one. "Everything is blank?" Love it and you , Barry. You look so super with the makeup and then we see the real you at the back of the theater. Still can't get it. You are perfect in this video..................Love................Betsy
One of the most powerful lyrics ever penned. I have loved this song since a child. It meant different things for me as a child than it does now. A timeless lyric

Another winner. So unique and yet I still don't get the story on this, but Barry, for someone that can look as handsome as a Jester as you do in real person. Only you could do this and everyone loves this one and so do I. It is fantastic....................Betsy Basile
Barry..I have not been able to catch this one for awhile. i love it but it keeps disappearing and then a few weeks later it shows up again. You look so handsome, even dressed as a Joker or Jester, whatever you are. Thank you and I love the video and I love you too.............................The Dancing Queen BB 1965 (my first year in college) one of my nicknames the guys gave me.

A terrific video an song. I love this one a lot. You are even very, very handsome even dressed and made up like a Jester. See Barry.....You have so many talents, I can't even write them down except Musical called "HARMONY". I am so proud of you........Betsy
Barry... Haven't been able to find this one for awhile. I love it and you playing a Joker and also your real self is fascinating and spell- binding. Love this and love you.......Betsy B
I just love this video, Barry. Talk about different..This one is as you play the Jester or Joker, and you sing about guns and bullets, but I do love it, even though I still don't quite understand the story behind it. Love you always............................................Betsy B
Barry.. I just listened to "Please Don't be Scared" It is one of the most important songs you ever did. Strange but on the Philly news today they did a whole thing about the Covenant House in Philly and I immediately thought of that song. I am still repaying your Xmas show in my mind. It was so wonderful Barry. Do your knees hurt the way mine do? All the stuff I did in my younger years caught up with me. Love you and I really like this video.........................Betsy B
This magnificent bastard loves Beagles and has the guts to declare it in front of the world on his second album! Man, he's got my vote forever. Beagles!!!
Love you Barry Manilow and RIP Jim Steinman. P.S To this day my friend thanks me for taking him to see you at the Paris hotel in Las Vegas back in 2013. He tells me it's his favorite concert of all time. He especially liked the part where you dueted with yourself on the Midnight Special Could this be Magic. I thought that was phenomenal too!!!
Found out the same thing. My first Barry album was 1977’s Barry Manilow Live. Also an Osmond fan back in the day. Found out fellow musicians of rock, metal and country genres also loved and still listen to Barry, The Osmonds, John Denver, Abba etc. lol! This is one of my favorite Barry tracks.
Massive overproduction, absolutely bordering on operatic insanity......and totally brilliant....and a mention for the enormously talented background singer's 😱
I still don't quite understand the story around this one especially with the guns and bullets, but I still love the video, Barry. Really unique and so very interesting..................Will keep watching..............................Betsy
Another winner, Barry. Love the uniqueness of it. You as a Jester? And then the Real you in the theatre. Odd for you to mention bullets and guns. I do love it thought................................You are the BEST...............................Betsy B
I was 13 in 1981 and I was and always will be a huge fan of Barry 's AND IT WAS NOT A SECRET! Anyone who knew me and knows me, knows that about me!! 😉⭐
Since long time ago, when I was on my Xteen, I hated Barry Manilow music because I thought he was too depressive and sentimentalist and sometimes i listened his music secretly- hidden from the other but now at my middle of 40 I dare to listen his music...fuck what have I done! I denied to myself during my youth to listen the music of a great artist and a wonderful voice.
I am loving this one so much and it is so unique that I wonder how the Jester and the real Barry look at each other. How do you feel then or don't you actually see each other even though you are the same person. This one is just fascinating and so different from most of the videos you do. Love it, Barry and I love you too. Thanks...................Betsy
Really do like this unique video with you as a Joker or Jester or whatever you are and then the real Barry Manilow shows up in the back of the theatre. Gives me goose-bumps, particularly when you mention guns and bullets, but the very ending is the best with both the Barry's are in it. Great job.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Dancing Queen BA 1965, my freshman year in college.
