Yeah.. he had some “natural ability”.. I get it. But people, particularly casual fans have no idea how much work he did in the weight room. For a running back, particularly a “small “ back to bench 360 on his pro day… and get a 556 lb horizontal squat. This was not super common back in the 80’s…. That’s work!! This man grinded like no other. Don’t let all the natural ability fool. There’s a million dudes with natural ability. But this man put in the work from a young age.
@JeffreyTheTaylor
@JeffreyTheTaylor 2 года назад
This is why you could put him in a modern pistol and be confident he could squat and pass pro. He was STRONG. Think of him as a 3 down back in the modern NFL! Inside, outside zone, TE traps, screens, flares, wheels, motion releases -- you'd have to scheme for every single one because Barry could house it on any one of those plays. Damn it...
@ratstrat1984
@ratstrat1984 2 года назад
Amen to that. Everyone thinks these guys get out of bed and do their thing, but it takes work. Hard to get kids these days to understand that. Can you imagine Barry in the Ravens backfield, and have Lamar and Barry running the RPO at you? Deer in headlights.

That’s one of the main reasons he was so good. A lot of teams thought weight lifting would make you “bulky” and slow. But he crushed weights and it showed. You don’t really see a back his size run through linebackers.

This dude is a class act. I remember watching him as a kid in the 90s, he and Okoye were the running backs that everyone feared. This man had a hell of a career. We can't downplay that fact. Not to mention, he really is just a good dude. I wish all the best for you Barry Sanders. hell of a guy and a hell of a player. i'm a Packers fan, but I gotta give respect where its due. This man is a legend, hands down.

Every running back coming into the league needs to take a class from Barry Sanders!

Just think. The Oklahoma State Cowboys had Barry Sanders with Thurman Thomas as a backup. Two future HOFers in the same backfield.

It was the other way around. Barry sat behind Thurman

Either way, that was a stacked OSU backfield

The goat. I feel sorry for the younger generation of fans that never got to seem him run the football. His popularity would be absolutely through the roof in today’s NFL. Total class act off the field as well.
