The Orb says: “Brother, we have all failed. The Astartes denied our touch. You must return, break your seals. You must take them” and it’s speaking to the orb the Retributors jammed those spikes into. They are some kind of warp entities, and it is believed that the psykers aren’t organic beings, but machines being controlled by the orbs. And as to the Captain and Sargent killing the inquisitor, he became possessed, his soul went to the warp and a daemon took its place. Daemonhosts are very dangerous, and once they killed him, they had to destroy his body. Just because you kill someone after they become possessed, you are not safe from daemons still being able to use the body.

14:52 The "I" on his back tells us he works for the Inquisition. He's a psyker spying on the Orbs conversation. The Orbs conversation is something like this: Orb 1: "We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch." Orb 2: "You must return. Break your seal." Orb 1: "We'll never survive." Orb 2: "You must take them." The Inquisition Psyker tells the Astartes in white (these a veteran Astartes) to "recall them immediately!" Saying this reveals himself to the Orbs, and they try to possess him. Possession in the 40k universe is extremely dangerous, of which Psykers are at risk of having happen to them. Extremely powerful Warp entities or daemons can take over or turn Psykers into portals into the Warp. This is why the veteran Astartes immediately and brutally kill him. It's too risky not too.

17:40 So to give a bit of context about Markiplier's involvement with the guy who made this animation. What had happened was that someone hijacked the animator's channel and started advertising some very naughty NSFW stuff despite being completely unrelated to Warhammer 40k in general. This was occurring in-between Part 4 and 5 but had managed to get the attention of Markiplier, who then made a dedicated video to reaching out to his fans and the rest of the wider internet to help him get his channel back from the hacker.

Short breakdown: The planet of Argosa rebelled and attempted to withdraw from the Imperium. The rebellion was eventually checked, and the leaders intercepted by the retributors Astartes as they attempted to flee the system. A strike-force was deployed via boarding-torpedo, and discovered the "leader" was in fact some alien consciousness inhabiting a floating orb. It was using psychic powers to dominate "lesser" beings, probably to use as slaves. The large golden statue suggest a long-term plan to establish itself as a god-king figure on the planet. The Astartes however, denied the touch and planted devices in its surface, allowing an inquisitorial psycher to hear the orb speak by linking himself up to another similar orb. When he told the chapter-master to pull out the strike-team, his concentration slipped for just one moment, allowing the consciousness in the trapped orb to possess him. He chanted cryptic languages into the comms while flooding psychic visions to anyone nearby before he started to scream. The Astartes appropriately responded by killing him before the threat could properly manifest. The last orb managed to take the Astartes strike-team, but as it broke its seals and entered the warp like its brother suggested, a daemon immediately attacked. It is also possible this was a backlash from the Astartes killing its linked brother as it failed to possess the psycher. We cannot know for sure. The captain snapped back into what we presume to be reality, but after a brief look we might not be too certain the alien tomb-world is in reality at all.

“Did he lose his full head?!” Bolter rounds are basically miniature rockets, including explosive payload. They essentially pierce the body and then explode. So yes, he did lose his full head lol 6:12 The tactically intelligent thing to do would have been to lure the Astartes further into the corridor before firing. It’s accurate to say that the Gunner absolutely panicked as soon as he glimpsed the Astartes, which is a testament to their reputation in the Imperium. 13:14 The psyker broke his concentration while connected to a warp entity to warn the space marines, opening himself up for possession. He basically sacrificed himself for them.
@angrysocialjusticewarrior
@angrysocialjusticewarrior Год назад
I don't think its because he panicked. The astartes would have spotted him if he allowed them more time. His only chance was to catch them off guard by shooting at them just as they appear out of the corner. To backup my claim, you only have to look at how good the astartes vision and aim is at the beginning of the video where they crash land into the ship and then start immediately making accurate headshots at far away enemies hidden in a giant wall. And lets not forget, the gunner did NOT fail with his plan. He successfully landed plenty of shots on the Astartes. He only failed because like he said.... his target was an astartes. Astarstes don't get stopped by any gun small enough to be operated by a human.
@Papercut337
@Papercut337 Год назад
@@angrysocialjusticewarrior I agree that the Gunner failed simply because he was shooting at an Astartes, and he would’ve gotten spotted eventually. But by shooting that soon, he gave away his position before he was spotted, mowed down many more of his own guys, and allowed the Astartes to get behind cover much sooner than he would have if he were further down the hallway. Granted, it would’ve done much good. I’m just saying I can see that kind of fear behind that kind of tactical blunder.

They are a no nonsense assassination sect that deal swift, calculated blows to high value targets. You'd think is just humans running, but that's a TON of pure muscle and reinforced almost vehicle armor moving with a speed that is has a stride in the steps. The Inquisitor that observed the orb on the ship and the one on the spacemarine ship heared the orbs communication and warned the commander that they would flee and take the space marines with him. The inquisitor was corrupted shortly after because he lost concentration so he was on the way to Chaos....he could kill the whole system if that happens. So the comander had mercy and give him a quick dead.

Just about everything *plot wise* in this is home brew, meaning something made by Syama himself. The pattern of the armor is right and the ship classes, cogitator, sanctioned psyker, Auspex vision, all are correct. 4:14 - Subscribed right here, I love your curiosity and enthusiasm. Your questions are awesome and your eye for detail is insane. 5:38 - That's not a Vindicare Assassin like you were thinking, it's just a rebel/heretic sniper. Props for knowing the Assassins! 5:58 - The guy was running up with an anti-armor shaped charge. 6:22 - Ceramite Power Armor. They're basically walking tanks, and his armor still ended up pitted. 7:00 - YES! They are Psykers, and the force field is their "invuln save." Psykers are usually shown with blue light and the air being cold around them. Space Marines go through insane mental conditioning even if not Psykers themselves, so it was a battle of wills. 8:45 - That was two ships, the Retributor ship and the Rebel ship. 9:20 - That's a Sanctioned Psyker working under the Inquisition, hooked up to a cogitator. 9:47 - Ice, and yes it's important. 11:00 - You can tell the Sergeant apart from the rest by the color of his shoulder markings and the pits on his armor. 11:40 - Servants of the Orb, modified by replacing their heads with the floating mask skull things and connecting the artificial spinal column to their own. 12:33 - The Imperium of Man has three key enemies: Heretics (Chaos), Xenos (all non-human aliens), and Mutants (corrupted humans.) Some Xenos can interact with the Warp/Immaterium (like the Eldar are powerful Psykers, etc) 14:05 - So the reason there's been no dialog is because their helmets have their own comms and the protection of the helmet muffles the voice. The Psyker YELLS "Recall Them Immediately", breaking his concentration. That is as loud as he can voluntarily talk. But when the Psyker broke his concentration on the orb, it attacked back. A possessed psyker can be a gateway for Daemons to enter from the Warp. It was chanting loud enough to be deafening THROUGH his helmet. Killing him like that was underkill. 16:45 - Service studs, yeah, and close to that.

Space marines/Astartes use guns called Bolters that fires a 75 calibre rocket propelled armor piercing round which is about the size of a redbull drink can, the gun and round is designed to virtually kill anything. When normal humans get hit by this round they usually get blown to bits or they turn into a red mist. The glowing gun is a Plasma Pistol meant for heavily armored targets, they are very destructive weapons to the target and the user because if fired too much the Plasma gun will overheat and explode killing the user. Space marines fight enemies like orks, Tyrannids and Necrons on a daily basis and is the reason why they need such powerful and devastating weapons like the Bolter and Plasma guns. The Sisters of battle/Adeptus Soraritas use Bolters and Plasma weapons even the Traitor/Chaos Marines.

Basically comes down to "It depends...probably. Maybe? We don't know. Usually?" The galaxy is a big place. There's several hundred billion stars. The Imperium of Man controls about a million worlds, connected solely through established warp routes. Some of these routes were discovered thousands (possibly tens of thousands) of years ago. Some are new. That means a lot of weird, unknown horrors lurk among the stars. Some of them are alien. Some are demons. Some are something else altogether. Whenever the Imperium encounters something new, if it isn't human, it gets destroyed. If it's human and doesn't immediately bow to the Emperor, it gets destroyed. We really don't know what we're looking at in this video. The creator was pretty deliberate with this and like Simen here says, a lot of it was dispelled by Astartes' creator. Even the space marines featured are a new creation of his.

Psychic power comes from the Warp (Hell) For a psyker to use psychic power, they essentially have to open a door to Hell inside their head to let the power through and hope that nothing else notices and comes through the door at the same time. The Psyker was listening in on the conversation between the two orbs, heard them planning to "take" the Astartes, and immediately told the captain that they were in danger. By doing this, it took his attention away from controlling his power and either let something slip through and posses him or was attacked by the Orb Either way, psykers losing control or getting possessed is an absolutely catastrophic threat and have to be dealt with instantly

He screams so hard that we can hear him through that helmet. I strongly recommend watching this video as analyzed by Arch Warhammer.

In the "Psyker battle", the Marine slightly pulling his "knife" before charging, knew that the psyker would block his gun, so he used it as a decoy to enable him to stab the turd. I'm basing this on nothing but another comment I read like a year ago, but it makes sense! Edit: Look for the tiny flashes on the pillars; those are the other Marines appearing

Basically the orbs are shells for whatever the entities inside of them were and that they were giving the rebels their psychic powers, probably trying to get them to build actual bodies for them to inhabit. I don't think they are daemons because right after the one takes the space marines it's immediately attacked by that black shadow in the warp and lets them go again, hence why the one orb was saying they wouldn't survive breaking their shields (The orbs)

There is always so much subtle detail you see when you watch it multiple times for example at 06:51 you can see them using a two stage trigger. In the lore this works the same was as an A-10c's planes two stage trigger works. The first half of the trigger pull stabilizes the gun onto the target and the second half of the trigger fires the bolter. 09:40 he steps on hoarfrost, in the 40k lore one possible affect of phsykers using their abilities is a rapid temperature drop which causes ice crystals to form. This either confirms the two men in masks were psykers or some warp fuckery is going on in regards to that statue like thing and or the orbs. 16:29 the reason the vomit looks so gross is because it is clotted blood. Space marine blood clots extremely quickly.

The best guess about the orbs is that they are either Yu'Vath tech or Yu'Vath themselves.All Yu'Vath artifacts have the same flaky paperish texture and markings on it. The Yu'Vath were and ancient and immensely powerful Xenos race at least on par with the Eldar technologically. They were thought to be immensely powerful psykers and their tech was warp integrated. It has tremendous power but only really interacts well with Yu'Vath physiology. Because the Yu'Vath were heavily into slaving much of their tech, particularly the stuff that seems to ergonomically agree with other species physiology, tends to be extremely mutagenic. It alters the user over time to become more Yu'Vath to ease use. It also has some varying effect on the minds of its victims. They are a mysterious race and we don't know much about them.

The original videos that the creator released were intended for well above 1080p resolution, and if you ever get to see the more refined versions, you will see more details in the action, background, and character profiles such as the names of the space marines on their shoulder armor. Action is harder to see and interpret at 1080p resolution and lower, which is why so many viewers ask questions as to what happened, such as what happened at the end sequence of events. In the ending scene, the marines are dropped off each on their own pylon which is why you see flashes appear a top each column that most viewers do not understand what happened.

The physical orb is connected in some way to a relatively powerful warp entity, and those mask/spine combos on the psykers probably served as focuses or psychic hoods to boost the power of that bonded pair of psykers. It also looks like they were making that warp entity a much MUCH larger body. The weird thing they stepped on going into the vault was ice. In the lore whenever someone channels warp energy it has a drastic cooling effect on the physical environment near it, which heavily implies some serious warp fuckery going on inside that vault. Warp fuckery is 10000% confirmed when the orb essentially vores that squad into the warp after reassuming it's usual form.

something you need to keep in mind is that the weapons the space marines are using fire a .75 Cal self propelled explosive about the size of a can of red bull that explodes after penetrating through armor, and is basically a cross between a high powered rifle and a rocket launcher. If you haven't done so, you have to look up the cinematic opening for the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War computer game. Those 5 minutes or so of computer animation perfectly captured what it feels like to play a good game of 40k and got so many people into 40k or back into it. Before Astartes was created, it was THE best 40k CGI movie ever made, especially compared to the POS that GW released years after Dawn of War came out. They spent millions on an awesome cast, but the animation looked worse than most CGI commercials from the 90's.

3:30 yes, yes he did. The weapons the astartes use are Bolt guns or Bolters. (and those come in varieties as well :D ) Calling them a gun is a bit of a misnomer. They shoot ''bullets'' where the first explosion you hear from the gun is the ''clearing propellant''. It's function is to help the bolter round leave the gun barrel. Basically this is how normal guns function, and that's all a normal gun would do. However, this is not a normal gun ^^ After the bolt leaves the gun, it has it's own rocket propulsion charge. When the bolt hits a target, a fuse starts in the bolt, exploding when it's penetrated it's target after a brief moment. It's honestly more of a grenade launcher (rocket propelled, gun hybrid). The bolts it fires are about the the thickness of a human forearm / wrist. Some variations: Pistol Stalker (has a scope on it and a longer barrel for Designated marksman jobs) Storm (has 2 barrels) Heavy bolter (huge variant used as a supression / heavy fire platform) Combi bolter (has another weapon under / next to it, like a flamer, melta etc) Some of these even come in human variants, where they are handmade or more exclusive. In a smaller callibre. Most often used by high ranked officers, or people like the Sororitas (battlenuns) Pistol Bolter Combi And humans can use the Heavy bolter as a TEAM weapon. Where 2 people carry it, and a third carries the ammo, used like how modern humans use heavy machineguns.
@joost1120
@joost1120 Год назад
I wouldn't really call it a grenade launcher. Plenty of conventional guns have ammunition with explosive charges in them. Bolters are a gyrojet firearm. They tried to make this tech work during the cold war, but it just didn't work well with the technology. Bolters use the same principle mixed with a conventional firearm. Gyrojet ammunition is typically caseless because the propelling charge is contained within the bullet/rocket, but bolters use both the rocket and an initial charge. Regular bolters use .75 caliber rounds, heavy bolters use a full 1.0 caliber round and there are also downsized boltguns intended for mortals, which use .50 caliber rounds. In terms of the damage they inflict, it's pretty comparable to modern calibers of that size. A regular bolter will definitely take off limbs or take whole chunks out of someone just like a 20mm high explosive round would, but bolters have the addition of also being armour piercing. It's like a 20mm AP with the same explosive payload as a 20mm HE. The recoil is relatively low for a firearm this caliber because of it's gyrojet design. Only the initial charge imparts recoil on the gun, and the gun itself is pretty heavy. A conventional 20mm autocannon would be far worse in terms of recoil. The only similarity to a grenade launcher is the high explosive filler and the higher caliber, but that would apply to any high explosive round of this caliber. Grenade launchers are quite different though, as they use the blast to kill. Hitting something directly with a grenade launcher will definitely hurt, and a grenade to the skull would likely kill you, but they are not intended for direct hits on enemies. Bolters are intended to hit targets directly. They penetrate and explode inside the target, creating a far greater wound than a conventional bullet. They lack the explosive blast a grenade launcher has. If you were simply lobbing bolter rounds near a target, you would definitely concuss them, but you'd have a hard time actually killing them. Even more so because the rounds would penetrate and explode inside the ground, diminishing it's blast even more.
@SamuraiHonor
@SamuraiHonor Год назад
@@joost1120 well yes, but how many people that aren't into wh40K, that you know, know what a gyrojet is (hell, there's probably gun nuts that haven't heard of it). Or have general intricate firearm knowledge. You are correct about a lot of stuff, but i'm trying to make comprehensible and functional generalizations xP Ones that are more well known due to action movies and other pop culture exposure. Not an indepth analysis.

Gotta love that Caestus Assault Ram using its twin-linked Magna Meltas to just burn a hole right into the enemy ship for them to board. Melta weapons are intensely focused microwave guns :P Bolter rounds are self-propelled, mass-reactive grenades (meaning they explode when surrounded by mass, aka a body). The Imperial Guardsmen use lasguns and heavy stubbers (which are basically regular machine guns), which obviously do very, very little to ceramite armour. It has been said of Space Marines that nothing that big should move that fast. They can sprint at speeds up to 50mph in full wargear.

Back in 40K Rogue Traders Days (the late 80's), the iron studs on their foreheads meant 10 years of service. Back in the day, a lot of the Fluff (what snobs would call "lore" in other games) was a lot different. (The Fluff was the unimportant spacefiller that wasn't the rules)They had pictures of retired Marines in a bar on some backwater podunk planet and mercenaries wearing power armor and all kinds of stuff that couldn't happen in future edititions of the game. So much has changed from edition to edition. A standard is that Space Marines can live for centuries. If they get killed in battle organs in their necks called the "Geneseed" get collected by their Apothecaries (their corpsmen/medics) so their other specialized organs can be duplicated. If they're mortally wounded doing extremely badass feats, what's left of them are stabilized and installed into a Dreadnought sarcophagus. You have to know a Dreadnought is a walking tank/mecha thing with big guns. Every hundred years or so, they're awakened from suspended animation to check to see if they're still loyal and/or sane. Otherwise, they're not awakened unless they need them to provide support on a mission and their sarcophagus is installed into their Dreadnought. Those guys are living legends, some are thousands of years old and a few were in the original chapters 10,000+ years earlier and might have even seen the original Primarchs or the Emperor in action.

These orbs are some kind of strange alien race (or the containers for the aliens) with vast psychic powers. The two spine dudes were husks controlled by the orbs through the spine, thus they had psychic powers too. (in the room with the golden colossus you can see many more spines without bodies.) The Inquisition psycher working with the marines (Astartes) was trying to see the minds of the aliens to know their plans but it backfired and his mind was controlled or corrupted by the alien. It's not uncommon for psychers in the Warhammer 40k to be corrupted and/or loose control, this is extremely dangerous as an out of control psycher and kill others very easily or even rip open a hole to the warp allowing demons and other nasties to pass through. Thus the Marine's realizing the psycher was going crazy executed him quickly before any really bad shit happened. In the end killing the creature inside the orb somehow teleported the marines that got pulled in to some unknown planet. (with about the coolest and most ominous ancient ruins of all time...)
