How to buy a drink for a girl: Don't.

Say it to the girl. "can I buy you a drink?" "Wanna have a drink with me?" Most importantly, if she says no, walk away. If you make an ass of yourself harassing a girl at the bar for rejecting you, you are gonna strike out with every other girl who witnessed it or were told about it by their friends.

If you have to buy a random woman a drink just so you can talk to her, you've already lost.

I think its important for bartenders to feel responsible for the safety, security and comfort of their guests. Asking the person if they would like someone to buy them a drink first is an awesome approach. I’ve had that happen to me at a bar and I felt way more respected, by both the person trying to buy me a drink and the bartender. I accepted just because of how it was done.

I agree. I think when a man or woman decides to initiate a conversation with a person of the opposite sex, that act is a very high compliment and there is no reason to expect anything else from them. If you think about it, bars or night clubs are really for women, not men. I used stress out a little because it was the man’s job to ask women to dance or to initiate a conversation with a woman. So I would walk around and try to meet women. I had my fair share of successes, however, for every successful conversation that I was lucky enough to get it cost me money for a drink. Not every time but the vast majority of the time I was buying a drink. I resented the fact that women never seemed to make any effort to meet guys. They just sat and talked with each other while guys would walk over to them. The whole idea got old right away. So I stopped doing all that. I started only going to bars to have a drink with friends, watch a ball game or enjoy music. That is all. I found that I really enjoyed having a beer or a drink with friends without all the stress of walking around and trying to meet women. I also realized that there are other places to meet women where the conversations seem to begin organically. Private parties are great places where people talk and you can meet women and already have something in common with them without all the awkwardness of starting a conversation from scratch. Other good places are clubs at work or school, etc. Men, Leave the night clubs to the women and quit buying drinks. They usually get in cheaper anyway (ladies nights or other ways).

The question is: why would I want to buy a drink for a woman?

Step 1: Walk up to them, and repeat the phrase "HEY BITCH YA THIRSTY?"

My friends and I were out at happy hour at a restaurant one time when the waitress came by with a full order of drinks that some man ordered for us... he was much older and with a preteen child. Never came over to talk to us, never said anything. Just got us drinks. It was very confusing but stuck in my mind I suppose? But honestly best thing to do is strike up a conversation with a girl at the bar and IF it's going well and she seems genuinely interested, you can offer to purchase the next round. This way she can get what she wants, you make your intent clear, and you give her a respectful out if she's uninterested.

Try asking them if you can order her an appetizer instead haha.

Haha I never thought this was a thing. I'm a cheap fuck so I never have, and probably never will, buy a woman a drink. Then again I don't go to bars, drink alcohol or leave my house at night. I swear I'm super cool you guys.

Firstly guys, don't buy women drinks. Women aren't obligated to talk to you just because you buy them something. It's stupid to waste $10 on someone just on the off chance that maybe they'll talk to you, and to me, that's a stupid waste of money. If you do buy them a drink (which I still dislike because men are always the ones buying shit for women and never the other way around), then do it after you two are already talking. I don't mean small talk, I mean like actual she's engaging in conversation with you, not wondering to herself how she can get out. Secondly, women, stop accepting free drinks from men you have no intentions of talking to. The world pampers you in a lot of ways and usually the people going out willing to buy strangers drinks probably aren't in a very happy place in their life, or so I'd speculate. Just let them enjoy their night. Rejection is already bad enough but being a woman, you don't have the experiencing of paying to get rejected. It sucks. Stop being scumbags and decline drinks from people you can't see yourself possibly giving the time of day to.

What the hell?! What's up with asking the bartender to buy a drink for someone?! If I wanna buy a person a drink, I'll initiate contact with the person ... "Hey there, how's your day been?!", "OMG! The weather's so ... cold/hot/wet/whatever", "Damn, that (item of clothing) looks bomb on you!" Then if they are like "Oh, yeah ... I know!" in a receptive manner, it's time for the "Hey, how about I get a round o' drinks in and we have a chat?!" angle - if they're like " Uh ... I know!" in a dismissive way then "Cool, so have a good evening!" and bail on the person and back to the lads!

I suppose the gesture is nuanced just as all social interaction is. If you strike up a conversation with a woman and things go well, you can offer to buy her a drink, because contextually its coming from a genuine place. However, its quite awkward to use the gesture as a means of introduction. Its not like you would walk up to a woman you have never met and just kiss them on the lips without having spoken to them. Same goes for buying them a drink.

I only do this if its the woman I'm already there with. I've never had the inclination to buy a stranger a drink. I assume strangers are psychos until proven otherwise.

If I'm buying rounds or shots for women, I get my bartender to make a non-diluted Four Horsemen double shot. If I'm paying for someone's drink, I make sure they won't enjoy it.

Buying a woman a drink is sending a message: I want to talk to you, but I don't want to talk to you, Sober. Some women are "Receptive" to that, but for the guy, don't put it on the staff. Ask her "Can I buy you a drink?" That puts it in her Court. This is just a clumsy trope. Yes, it works IRL occasionally, but it's not going to work under any situation when just going up, and asking her wouldn't. Bartenders aren't payed to be Matchmakers, and there's plenty of Apps that do that on your phone now. Ask one of those.

Went to a bar one time and this dude, who was clearly incredibly drunk, approached this woman who just walked in, offering to buy her a drink/s. She said no a handful of times. She even said she had her own money. Ended up turning around and witnessing it and even tried to intervene myself before letting the bartender know some dude was trying shit with this lady who had verbally said “no” and was clearly not interested. Not too sure what happened afterwards as I left seeing as this dude was getting on my nerves. Fellas, if a lady says “no” to you buying her a drink, don’t take it personally.

It’s the presumption involved in assuming you have the right to talk to someone after buying them anything, that’s what gets offensive. If you must buy that drink, and it’s probably not the best move, then I think the classiest follow-up is nothing at all. If you wanted to talk to her, you would have.

Most of the time guys who ask the bartender to give a girl a drink have nothing good to say and just want to get the girl drunk, and himself laid.

As an ex bartender of 15+ years, DON'T buy women drinks. I've seen so many guys blow their paychecks on a woman that will just leave with a guy who didn't spend a penny on them. Don't be taken advantage of.

I once had an American golfer wanting to buy a round of drinks for a group of girls and was shocked when I said it was sick and that he had to be careful about this. He must of been 50 and the girls were in their early 20's. I think he thought having money was big deal and was again shocked that I'm not interested in how much of a tip he'll give me if I did this.
