Age 16 perfecting excelent technique. Age 40 technique is part of him. Every muscle is doing it's thing without the slightest thought for decades. Still honing his skills, concentrating on keeping his strength and lightness. Still defying gravity. Exeptional dancer. He is a unicorn. Masculin and graceful. Great actor transforming himself.
“Dance for me for one minute, and I will tell you who you are.” He was and is perfection as he dances! Blessed to be one of his great admirers. Thank you for your gift to all of us!
@@zah936 It was a gift. As a young man, he leaped almost as if gravity were not a reality... even as an older man Baryshnikov could not match his youthful ethereal ability. Yes, he later perfected his technique: but time and gravity affect us all...
He will ALWAYS be the greatest who EVER lived! Perfect technique, incredible height, amazing elevation, the ability to spin like a top, and unmatched artistry. There are others who have some of these traits, but NO ONE who can put them all together like Misha!
At sixteen Misha could jump with precision. At forty, the master lands without a sound.Iliken this to the landing of the Concorde. Love this comparison, thank you!♡♡
It is absolutely breathtaking the skills that this man has and the fact he I wish you would have been more in movies to watch them dance ballots are very expensive movies that generally cheaper results of us who are broken from the bank down
I'm no dancing expert but there'd be a difference between someone doing something he'd been practicing for 5 years versus something he'd been doing for 30 years
True, tho some people start very young. He could've already been dancing for 10 years when he was 16. Im a horse rider and at 21 I've been riding for 17 years. But I think the cool thing is some people don't continue to practice and improve after their youth. So i think his progress is commendable, not to mention he's just an awesome dancer
Agree, fascinating. Here we have a young 16 year old student showing his training and the importance of the plie in preparation for the jump... and then a 40 year old star who knows that most of the audience comes to see how high he can jump. (I prefer a happy abundance of technique and artistry myself...technicians are a dime a dozen these days) Yet, no denying that training. Whether 16 or 40.
This is the “old school ballet".Only strict technical standards will make your artistic career last longer. The difference between some of the "greatest dancers" of our time and him is Michelin and street food.
Thank you! I have seen this footage before, but not juxtaposed like this. Really fascinating. I would love to hear your thoughts on the two. It is sublime to watch the 16 yr old Baryshnikov. Like one person already wrote, he really seems to melt into the floor with each jump, like a droplet of water. And so perfectly turned-out; such ease. The 40 year old Baryshnikov (though impressive still), seems to whack his way through it, and it is almost painful to watch the slamming of his knees. What do you think? (edit: On a second viewing I am struck by his focus on being up in the air the 40 yr old Baryshnikov has; versus the 16 yr old has mastered the plie landing. It seems he let go of that deep plie and concentrated on the jump's height much more)
The 40 year old is much more precise and secure. The 16 year old has much less control. The reason why the 40 year old can propel himself higher is because he is much more efficient in using much more developed muscles. And yes, the strain in the knees is worse for the 16 year old.
