The only problem with clickup though is that it is so heavily venture capital invested and they spend so much money on marketing that I don't trust it to make it more than a few years. They might suddenly close shop and leave my company in the lurch. Whereas basecamp is self funded by the founders and they have been doing it for so long that I can trust that it's going to be there forever.

This is a great point. VC funding is like meth. You know the crash is coming and it might get ugly. I'd much rather build a business like basecamp than a business on the back of VC investment.

You might want to give Podio a try. It has a learning curve but it sounds like it combines Clickup and Basecamp quite well.

Basecamp 2 is super old and basically discontinued. Did you never upgrade to Basecamp 3, and now Basecamp 4? It has Kanban, etc.

I can't agree more. You've done a great breakdown there. Btw the link to your Software Crash Course is no longer working. Do you have a different link to watch the course?

Also, given the pros and cons of Click Up, do you plan to stick with it regardless?
@BuildOnline

We are currently sticking with it, maybe moving to Monday at some point.

Hey! You mentioned you didn't like ClickUp docs. How do you find their new Docs 3.0?

The new docs are awesome and make a big difference.

In your opinion which add-ons for basecamp time tracking and reporting are best?
@BuildOnline
@BuildOnline 2 года назад
I think we tried harvest, clockify and togl before we switched. None of them felt right. I think we also were using tracked at some point.

What do you think about Atlassian products (Jira + Confluence) vs clickup ?
@BuildOnline
@BuildOnline 2 года назад
Great question. I've got limited experience with Atlassian products. Basically, the UI made it a non-starter for us. It always feels very 2002 in my opinion.

@@BuildOnline Hello! I've been using Jira for more than a year, and I have to say that is really complex to configure because all of the features, but I love to be able to organise work in sprints and create Epics (Milestones) and set priorities. Also you can configure a lot of automation, I have one that sends an email to the management team every time the development team moves a card in kanban to the "Deployment" (Done) status. I was thinking to start using Basecamp but I think we cant implemente scrum in there, I can't figure how to manage a software product development project with Basecamp, maybe for other kind of projects...

@@gretamendoza339 I also figured that this guy on the video should give Jira a try. Because he needs Scrum Management - not necessarily project management. The tool essentially needs to complement your process. In this case, the process is the team's Project Management methodology. Basecamp is optimised for a methodology they made up. Ryan Singer, their ex-head of Strategy, essentially wrote a book about their methodology, Shape Up. They built Basecamp for a company that operates like them. If you're using the Scrum framework (you're not just Agile) but you align to a structured Agile framework, Scrum, then Basecamp isn't ideal.

So…you chose Clickup cause it’s complicated? Hahaha wtf? Nobody wants complicated software for uncomplicated processes…for a basecamp fanboy you forgot about: “focus on what never changes in your business and do that great”. I’ve been a Clickup user and it sucks just as Monday and slack. Clickup is for snobby users that think Gantt charts(annoying micromanagement) are great. It’s basically made for project managers aka control freaks.
