That brought back some memories. I had many breakfast croissants at that Jack in the Box, walked every morning to Bradley Elementary school. I was told not to enter the housing area that was there or we would be kidnapped and killed. Lived behind that Bargin Thrift store for.most of our Elementary years on olive st in a 1 bedroom apartment. . We were dirt poor. My only goal when graduating HS was to leave. I live in Iowa now, so I guess goal achieved!
Did you ever try the Monterey roast beef from Jack In The Box back in the day? I still love that sandwich! Wish they would bring it back! It was on flatbread with a chili relleno and roast beef
Weather real nice. The way I remember growing up there in the 1970's. That big mountain in the center is Mount San Gorgonio. Frank Sinatra's mother crashed into it and Dean Martin's son did too. How's that for a coincidence!
It makes me sad to see how run down San Bernardino has gotten. I was born and raised in San Bernardino in the Del Rosa area. My father worked at Norton AFB. I graduated from Pacific High School in 73. San Bernardino was an "All American City" back then.
Thanks for the upload. I was there in 87 & 88. Graduated from SBHS class of 88, joined The Marines, retired and never returned to the IE. I see few changes..... glad I left though.
Thanks for makin this Video,,,alot of memories off of aseline,,I only lived in SB for 2 years but so. many things happen there...youd never know jus driving down baseline,,a few stories to be told just from me....Thanks again..anywhere in SB is interesing to me!!
I lived in Rialto in 70s, having graduated from Ike in 1979. Been down this road countless times. It has hardly changed. Been to Amapola's many times. There used to be a place called "Jim's What-A-Steak" on Baseline. They had the best grinder sandwiches. Seems like the bridge over the 215 freeway is relatively new. I honestly don't remember how it was before. Good to see that Alfredo's Italian is still there. Great food! Snow-covered San G in the background is spectacular. We used to go to the Studio walk-in movie theater on Baseline, and the Baseline Drive-In theater. They both evidently are gone.
We used to ride our motocross bikes through the wash all the way to glen Helen and hesperia. My buddy Mike owns the Taco bender and another landmark is to the left on Est and baseline was Sages dept store. They had their toy store in an area outside separate from the big building best toy store anywhere!
I had fond memories of both Baseline and Mt Vernon Drive Ins. Spent SO many Saturday nights there in our lawn chairs in front of the van parked near the back row (I think in the Back Rows was required - so the tall roof wouldn’t block the view for others). Wouldn’t trade those memories for the world!!
Haha! Taco Bender is old school! Remember Taco Tia??? I figured out one day that kia dealer stole their old jingle... ka-ka-ka-Kia! instead of Ta-ta-ta-Tia! Taco Tia! Diabolical!!!;)
I was stationed at Norton 67-70 San Bernardino was a great town then People were friendly. Met my wife there she was going to College there met at a dance on the Base. I see videos of what it’s like today makes me sad. Many Cities in California and the country have declined .
@@ronaldtenayuca4418 they have rebuilt on the property after they tore Waterman Gardens down its now called Arrowhead Grove ..looked good last time I drove through but still section 8 housing and lots of homeless near it
@@chiefrocka6983 OK!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!! I ALWAYS HAD THE IMPRESSION THAT WATERMAN GARDENS WAS GOING TO BE THERE TIL THE END OF THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S A GOOD THING THEY DID!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS ONE OF THE PILLAR BLEMISHES OF SAN BERNARDINO. I'M SURE IT MAKES THINGS FEEL LIKE THERE IS A FRESH START IN THE AREA. IT'S ALMOST LIKE A MAJOR CORPORATION CHANGING ITS LOGO AFTER ALMOST GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. WATERING GARDENS EPITOMIZED EVERYTHING THAT WAS WRONG AND WHAT HAD HAPPENED TO SAN BERNARDINO IN A NUTSHELL. IT WAS A SYMBOL OF THE PAST EVEN THOUGH THE PAST HASN'T GOTTEN BETTER AND POSSIBLY WORSE.
Thank you for the video! Do you know any places where there are a lot of tall palm trees and orange? Looking for a mountain view with these two combo trees(farm) . Thank you~
I remembered Baseline St. when I was a little kid back in 2009. I used to take the OmniTrans to take so many buses to different destinations such as Walmart and other restaurants because we didn't had a car. I had some okay/good/bad memories living on Baseline St. with my grandmother and my brother. I remember everything changed so drastically when stores closed down permanently such as Smart & Final. I did see they demolished 2 thrift stores that were near to each other in 2018 or 2020. It's a good thing I moved out of there in 2015 because it was out of control of fighting and conflict.
Yes on top of the snow covered Mountain at the far east end is Mt San Gorgonio and the Baseline for all of sothern california is set off that allthe way south the the mexico Border that and foothill Blvd go all the way to the ocean amd all cities west and south are all laid out off of baseline pretty cool fun fact
Damn. As soon as you passed through Mt Vernon i knew where you were. I use to go to that Taco bender all the time as a kid with my Mom. They had the best pork nachos you could find. My grandmother lived about mile down from there. I haven't been out in CA in years. Total flashbacks from this
clear skies .... wow . I worked at the TB association office off e street between baseline and highland ave. Used to do volunteer work every summer while in high school. remember coming back to visit in 69 and staying at the old California hotel in downtown San Bernardino. is solar observatory still up at big bear lake ?
Thank you for watching. I’m glad I brought back some memories. Yes, the observatory is still there in big bear. Not sure if they’re still doing tours though.
What, no gunshots heard? Twenty plus minutes without hearing one is special. I graduated from Rim of the World in 74 and we hated coming to the flatlands to do track meets.
At the end of Baseline going East you will end up in East Highland Ranch where I used to go to a hiking trail and you will see see the San Bernardino area on top of the hill. @ 17:00 on the right is my all time favorite neighborhood Ace hardware! @ 17:43 is the former Victoria gas station that was owned by a nice Pakistani guy Mohammed, who was robbed by two teenagers and eventually shot and killed!
Spent 5 years at Norton (87-92). We all tolerated “Scum-Bernardino” but it was one of the most deplorable places to ever be stationed. What’s amazing about this video is that the sky is clear! Air shows at the base were awful because no one could see any aerial displays.
Ive only been here once. I was like its ok. I remember this Highland St. When its said that SB is bad , i think of Detroit bad....North Philly bad....East Cleveland bad....Jackson MS bad. Compared to those places SB is ok.
I talk to everyone all through the city in ally’s, behind stores, in fields, parks etc. I don’t record people unless they want to be on camera. You can record driving but up and personal I try and respect.
