Meet Doug Lacey, a certified basement and crawl space environment expert and the owner of Doug Lacey's Basement Systems, formerly Basement Systems Calgary.

With exclusive access to over 24 patented products, Doug Lacey's basement repair company can provide a custom designed solution to basement waterproofing, crawl space repair, and foundation repair.
Winner of the 2012 BBB Business Ethics Awards, the company strives to provide only quality products and outstanding customer service.
In this episode of Ask the Expert, a customer of Redcliff, AB asks Calgary Basement Systems owner Doug Lacey, about the differences between the SaniDry Dehumidifier and regular store-bought units.
Doug explains that to properly dehumidify a typical-size basement in Alberta all year-round, you would need about three store-bought units, installed around different areas of the basement. The moisture drawn by these units collects on a tray, which needs to be emptied regularly -- otherwise your dehumidifier(s) will be running on electricity but not drawing any moisture at all.
The SaniDry dehumidifier on the other hand, was specifically designed to dehumidify and entire basement (3000 sq. ft.) and operate with virtually no maintenance. Once set, the SaniDry will automatically monitor humidity year round and keep the relative humidity levels within a safe range to prevent mold growth. This ENERGY STAR® qualified dehumidifier, will also empty itself in the drainage system, so you will never have to worry about emptying a tray.
The SaniDry can be installed in a secluded area and vented into finished areas, and with a double HEPA filter system, it rids the air off molds spores, dust mite pellets, pet dander and other allergens and harmful particles as small as 2 micron.
Visit Doug Lacey's Basement Systems website to learn more about the SaniDry System or schedule a free inspection.

Bought it from Adirondack Basements in the Albany, NY area.

Hi Mike, Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, we won't be able to send someone from our Service Department as we are located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I would recommend contacting Adirondack Basement Systems at 518-412-7927 and they would most definitely be able to have one of their Service Technicians come out and take a look at it for you.

SaniDry XP isn't "dry". It leaks coolant which is expensive to replace.

Hi Mike, Sorry you have had some issues with your unit. I wasn't able to find your name in our system. When was it you purchased it? Could it be under a different name? We would be more than happy to send someone out to look at it. If you would care to contact our appointment centre at 403-720-0616 we would be able to send someone out and see what happened.

Where do I get the correct air filter for this dehumidifier?

Hello Mish, You should be able to contact your local Basement Systems dealer in order to get replacement filters for your SaniDry system. Visit www.basementsystems.com/ to find a dealer near you.

The filter size is a very odd one. The nearest dealer wants around $25.00 for each. This seems a bit steep for that size filter.
