Don't do what I did... err rather didn't do. Properly prepare your basement for eventual flood situation provided you live in such zones. If it's too late for that as it is for me at the moment, you want to get these three items to take care of it when/if it does happen. A dehumidifier is a must for any basement. If you have carpets, you might as well get a carper cleaner that does spill cleanup. Finally some Damprid to keep the basement deodorized.
