I always find basement makeovers the most interesting because they've so difficult to pull off. There's typically low ceilings and little natural light. This looks nice but I would have loved to have seen it before the repairs wrecked the budget.
It was unfortunate running into these structural issues. We are so happy with the overall design even after sacrificing some of the overall budget. Thank you!
Now this designer I like. She put function at the top of the list and made every dime count. Addressing a sinking foundation is costly and eats up a budget quickly. The provisions were tastefully done.
It's a walk out where the basement has the ability to walk out to the backyard. It happens when a home is angled down from the front to the back of the house allowing you to "walk out" to the outside.
Jocelyn Doucette They probably couldn’t afford it after they had to rip out the whole foundation and re-pour it ! She said “wasn’t in the budget anymore” .
TV is a bit small for a famliy movie space, and too high on the wall, on those tall built-ins. Should just sit on top, or float very close to the counter. Bar fridge swings open the wrong way, probably an easy fix. I recognize some of that furniture, and I live in the same city... Hmm...
It's obviously only for entertainment - movies, gaming, cards. The snug feel can actually be nice for lounging and watching movies or gaming. And the kitchenette & cards table are in such a light & bright place, w/ the door & windows making the space feel bigger, that I don't think you'd feel oppressed by the low ceiling.
