Beautiful job Mike.. My neighbor installed the sane type of window, however he put it in backwards with the handle opener on the outside. I asked why he did such a thing, he said so he can get in his house when the wife locks him out after a late night at the corner bar..

Mike I just went through all of this on a house I own. The wall was deteriorated in as far as six or seven inches along one whole wall and down two feet below grade with other bad spots here and there. I did the repairs and plastered the whole house. I did use wooden frames around the windows but did it with PT lumber as my window order has not come in yet. In the end the job looks great but that was a lot of work! I used another one of your plastering videos as my info source. Thanks so much for the help! You are my go to guy for concrete info these days.

You make that look as easy as eating cotton candy.

All of your windows look great! Have you ever heard of a 4x4 sill plate sagging and preventing the basement window from closing? My 30 yr old vinyl basement windows were installed with a wood header over top. I want to remove it so I can move window up 4" and attach window to sill plate like you do. I would be able to grade soil higher and slope ground to prevent additional damage to foundation. I don't know ow if he did it because I bought the wrong size windows, or if he thought the sill plate would sag without it. I was trying not to make a big deal out of it, but while scraping paint on foundation I noticed windows are coming loose and mortar is falling off. Crickets love the gaps. The installer built a (treated?) wood box, surrounded it with mortar, and mounted vinyl windows into the wood box. If I have to fix them and can get them out in one piece, I may as well move them up & grade soil.

Do you like the spray foam Insulation for around the basement windows? I was considering doing your mortar method but was concerned for insulation unless I just did the mortar on the front of the window. Thanks mike great video!

That job turned out great, i have seen guys use expanding spray foam (tough stuff ) around the perimeter of the window to hold , then do a coat of cement, personally i dont care for that method, i like old school.

You SIr, is a master. My old house has the same wall issues, on the outside as well as on the inside. The foundation has all kind of cracks and i could see the outdoors from the inside thru some of the cracks. The blocks or what ever these used for the foundation then, is hallow, with no mortar or cement or steel in the walling, so I am thinking of filling in the hallow space with cement and gravel and do the SAME KIND OF JOB THAT YOU DONE HERE. Could you say if I will be ok with this and if it will strengthen the foundation? I am not a mason or anything, but I think that I could do what I saw you did here. My foundation walls look exactly like the one here. Thank you for posting this video.

You do windows too! Why else? How about replacing some thick block windows in the basement? You also made it seem so easy to cut the concrete block with a hammer.

Could you have essentially done the whole job with the Rapid -Set Mortar Mix? Or would that have been to costly? Thanks for the videos and information, been watching and learning. Appreciate the skills, time and effort.

Another great video, Mike. The boss, AKA my girlfriend, has this exact type of project for me to do. Do you put the screws partially in the sides and bottom so the mortar can grip to the window?

Nice video Mike. What if the top part of the wooden frame was rotten -would you have to replace the wood or would you do something else? I had to replace the basement window on my father's Dupont house a while back and I built a complete new frame to hold the window. Paul

We want to attempt to do our basement windows also on a stucco home but our windows have a metal frame cinder blocks on the sides and bottom but the top has a metal slab on each window . We can’t screw into there, how would you recommend we install our window? Thank you!!

I did mine like this about 6 months ago what a diff it made this past SE Michigan winter. Mike I have a couple spots at the bottom of one window where the cement shrank and can see little light how do I fix it?

Why cut the flanges off? Would they not work to hold the windows in place?

Hi Mike, Can you explain why you use the specific mix at the end-- 2 parts sand, 1/2part "s" mortar, 1/2 part portland + fiberglass? What is the advantage vs straight mortar vs. rapid set, in this case? In one of your other videos you used rapid set. I have a field stone foundation and am looking to replace a 100 year old wooden hopper type window. But I am not plastering or stuccoing...just fixing the mortar between the field stones. Thanks.

Another tough job made to look simple by a superb artist Mike. Thank you for posting it. I thought that the perimeter white plastic ridge around a window was flashing to allow the windows to be held in place. You trimmed it and used small screws? Any input here on why that is the better choice?
