@@barrysmith8193 Eli plays right handed, and as such, teaches people the same way. The majority of players play the strumming with their right hand, fretting with the left. If that's not for you, you may need to specify your search terms with "left handed" in quotations so it actually populates what you're looking for. Otherwise you're going to find all lessons fitting "banjo lessons" which usually mean right handed playing style.

For me a lot of those fifth string notes that don't actually belong in the cord but still sound good seem to be a passing note. Thanks for going slow without a lot of extra talking!
Eli, this is one of the best lessons that I have viewed regarding chords, chord changes and practice suggestions. I am self-teaching myself to play banjo (there are no teachers within a 2 hour drive of me) but I am enrolled in one of the internet programs for learning the banjo. I will say that I am a beginner even though I have been attempting to play now for a bit over a year and the internet course that I am enrolled in doesn't come anywhere close to teaching banjo as well as you do. I am 82 years old and love banjo music. I am excited to be on day 3 of your 30 days of banjo but my index finger doesn't bend far enough on my left hand. Are there any exercises I can do to make the first joint more flexible?
Good to see your post. I'm 70 and I can play a few chords and strum along with some songs,but I was thinking, because of my age , is it really worth starting to learn properly, for real. Obviously you're not letting age deter you, so neither will I.
Eli , you rock , best lesson ever .I have been playing guitar , tenor banjo and mandolin since 1972 . Always.loved the 5 string but didn't have the time to learn . Started playing semi pro in 76 and I am now retired and bought a G banjo at last . Couldn't have found a better tutor , you are so cool and right on point , thanks very.much . @seancreaney7 .
I lost my left index finger in an accident several years ago. I have played the banjo before the accident. Only 1/3 of it remains. Do you have any suggestions. ? Did create an extension out of a plastic tube. Getting use to playing it on my lap.
Yes all the way up, A ,.. A# B C C# D and so on , as he said as the minor chord for the shorter Am. 3 strings keep that shape and move up the same way. But what I want to know is where is the chord charts for this lesson .. Eli said in the link but I can't find it
A full month of doing hand stretching and trying, and I still can't even play 4 chords. I have extremely disproportionate hands, with HUGE handpalms and very small stubby fingers. I think I have to admit the Banjo, like every other string instrument is just not for me.
Lost indian uses a B minor chord actually, it's in the key of D. A pretty popular song that uses D minor is Shady Grove. That song is commonly played in that key, so you'll be getting lots of use for that chord. I can't think of any particular songs that use B major consistently without the capo, but if you play any song in the key of E major with no capo you'll be using B major pretty frequently

Eli….Why are you showing the fingering on the chord box in opposite to what you are actually playing? Your representation should be the same in both cases. You are showing a left hand chord box for right handers. If you are going to include left handers in your beginners lessons your narrative to be all inclusive. Otherwise inform us up front that these are right handed lessons so we don’t waste any more time with you.
