My team leader showed me a trick he was taught in BN. Put empty mags down your blouse until you can safely unbuckle your LBE to drop them out to reload and store. This frees up the space on the belt where dump pouch is on. In the 90s we didn't have dump pouches or plate carriers. At best a flak vest and Kevlar. Only wore those at the tire house MOUT site and the point man course. And of course Kevlar on jumps.
" The CONSTITUTION of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their RIGHT and DUTY to be at All Times ARMED." ~Thomas Jefferson, letter to John Catwright June 5th 1824
I have the 5 c's on my battle belt. Cheap condor rig but it's held up to 3 years of competition shooting and larping around in the woods, it's been solid. I've changed it up and moved things around a lot over the past couple years as I figure out what works for me and what doesn't. Everybody needs a go belt.
Thanx, great video. I’m gonna camo my gear and the wife’s table as well. Honestly in light of other things I have done, she probably won’t even mention it.
Lol, I'm still waiting for my wife to notice the camo over spray on her table on the back porch. It's been cold here lately, so she hasn't been out back yet. 😂
Nice setup. If you haven't heard of the Blackhawk T-Seriew holsters, check them out for sure. You can get lvl 2 or 3, non-light bearing or light bearing. Limited in selections. I think only Glocks and P320 versions are available. The non-light bearing lvl 2 runs just over 100 bucks and the compact lvl 2 runs a little over 60 I think. I've run the lvl 3 as a duty and it is by far, the best I've used. It's fast, intuitive, durable and not too bad looking. A cool option they have is the leg strap. Not needed on a stiffer 2in wide belt, like a Bianchi. Kind of needed on more "loose" fitting belts. The leg strap rotates on a spacer so no more movement when you have to pick up you leg or offsetting your draw if you need to draw from an angle that makes your leg bend.
" If circumstances should at any time obligate the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of ARMS who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens. This appears to me the only substitute that can be devised for a standing army, and the best possible security against it, if it should exist. " ~Alexander Hamilton Federalist No.28 January 10th 1788
I saw the auditioning process to be accepted to the portion where they are accepted to be invited to try and take the course. In this The Audition the Instructors put The Log on the ground and proceeded to order all The Inductees on the ground and had them roll around on the ground and to roll around The Log ALL day. To simulate having all four 8:02 blown off. Then a couple other things which were crazier.
I have never seen Alexander Hamilton described as anything like a supremacist. Just being prepared to deal with a possibly misguided military does not make you evil.@@YELLTELL
The belt belt needs water. Another method of dealing with all those holster swaps is the Safariland QLS System. Everything is addressed with only one holster👍 Great set up demo, sir!
Love the chem light on the med kit in case you don't have a headlamp. Only things I would add would be pistol light and red dot sight. Bad things happen at night. Thanks Major!
what I want on my belt is a canteen, maybe two of them. Anyone who doesn't think the same has done damned little forced marching, for a fact. You can easily go thru a qt of water in a couple of hours when you're highly stressed and if you are pushing hard and dont take a swallow or two of water every 20 minutes, it WILL show in your diminished performance, both physical and mental.
I agree about having a pistol, I dont agree wth having a big , double stack pistll and 45 rds of fairly feeble rds for the pistol and having all of that ammo on the belft if the ammo is 9mm, you can probably replace it in the field and youll probably be very dead long before you can fire a dozen rds from the pistol, on any one occasiaon, If yu're HITTING anything with the pistol, you'll almost certainly have solvered your problem in 6 rds, at least well enough to get to cover and once you have coer, you can swap mags. Missing dozens of times does not solve the problem, especially a pistol type problem.
I'm not a shooter, myself, but I do appreciate your taking the time to talk about how to set up a belt, which is a simple subject that everyone seems to overlook. Advice on how to choose or evaluate a belt was particularly welcome, and I wouldn't mind going into it even more.
There are tons of ways to setup your belt. Really depends on your "mission" and budget. As a patrol officer, you'd for sure want as slim of a small-of-back as you can. More tactical rolls, I'd say this would work fine. If you are looking into good places to get gear, like medical, check out Dark Angel Medical. For holsters and pouches, SKD Tactical. Both those sites run awesome deals around the holidays.
I'm digging this military aspect of your Channel. And love the concept of the kiss method. A lot of folks get spun up into a gear junkie status and have way more crap on their belts than they need.
Hi, man. I have the same IFAK pouch. Your experience may go over my comment, but I think you are using the pouch upside down. The tourniquet goes on the other side with one of the bungee cords (or you can purchase a tourniquet pouch and weave it). The side you have up is just to set how tight you want the contents. If you use it the way I tell you you can pull the TQ from both sides. Good setup.
Major, thanks for another fine online class. When I'm watching your videos, I feel like I'm with the platoon in the classroom, the 1st sergeant got detailed to HQ for something and you're teaching the class instead. Thanks again.
As always Andrew, a very thoughtful Battle belt ready for a combat situation. I created a Battle belt as well but tailored it for survival in a wilderness or an urban environment. Probably not the focus of your Ranger-minded preparedness. I like your idea of attaching the gloves to the belt. I have a similar belt and attach a Streamlight to that specific loophole. I don't carry a firearm and I use a Janus pack instead of an IFAK. Instead of magazines, I have a military canteen and cup/stove with a brew kit inside. I also carry a Mora knife on my left side (instead of a pistol) with an emergency flashing beacon on my Janus Pack. The pack has all of the typical survival elements like a mini Silva compass, a small frontier water filter, and a Fero rod. (and a lot of other things too numerous to mention) And I lash a poncho rain tarp to the top just like I did in my 11B10 days when we had web gear. I am just not using the shoulder straps and don't miss them cutting into my shoulders. I learn something every time I watch your videos.
Thank you, this video provided excellent guidance for those setting up something like this for the first time. Tweek to meet your personal requirements.
Great video, I run a similar setup. I rig a ball bungees on my non-retention holsters as a retaining device. I secure the bungee through the bottom screw of the holster to the belt mount . Very easy to use, reach down behind behind the holster and stretch the bungee over the back of the pistol. Wrapping Goon/hockey tape around ball to eliminates any rattle when moving not retained.
Great idea! Pretty hard to shoot a mean gator if you lost your pistol in the water at Camp Swampy. Those ball bungees are also ideal for securing tarps.
Technically and you should hit the fan scenario. You don't want anybody with you... Especially on patrols. See but be unseen, listen yet. Be unheard smell but give off. No odor. Always travel upwind most of all, mind your surroundings surroundings My father taught me these things. He was ECMR Vietnam US Navy 65 to 68... The number one cause it is going to be most prevalent are the people that are going to be eating other people after the food runs out. There ain't no coming back from that... They will have the shakes.. and, do not fall for a honey pot.. Watch their eyes and watch their hands... The telltale signs will be there
Nice RTF2. Bit different than my belt, but I'm cross-dominant and I've been shooting this way for 40 years, training scars are deep and untraining has failed. Little bit of a drop panel on the right side, holster and primary mag next to each other, with the panel covering my RF pocket for security. But I'm a mutant. I kinda hate that holster- open tipped holsters just scream "FOD me!". The only thing I'd add to that is a light, and a third rubber band for your second TQ.
The irony of insisting on calling them retainer bands by all the JMs is that the supply nomenclature IS rubber bands. They only become retainer bands in the TM once they're placed on the parachute system
I have used those belt buckles for years, I work where safety harnesses are often needed, environmental factors (welding) destroy the nylon webbing material. I have taken the buckles out when we scrap the harness to use it as a regular belt buckle.
You painted on your wife's table?!!! Sir I would suggest running to the nearest jewelry store and getting her a new sparkly to keep her happy. Or you can put your sere/ bushcraft skills to work as you now have to live outside. Good video and you know your going to get some flak but you embrace the suck. RLTW, AA baby
I like your setups because they're not necessarily 100% military. A lot of us can't afford the higher cost of military grade equipment or government issue mil-spec military equipment
If it hasnt been mentioned already and you arent familiar with it...check out the safariland system for holsters. I only buy safariland because of the versatility and modularity, Another great video as always. Currently working on my 3d iteration of a battle belt, but what doesnt change is the safariland holster system. Thank you so much for your videos and more importantly your service to our great country.
I too just made a 3rd battle belt / LBE rig. I like the molle stuff but have a couple Bianchi military holsters. I really like the security / protection of them. (I prefer full size pistols) and found that it's actually pretty quick to draw surprisingly enough. I don't do chest rigs / body armor as I'm old but love the suspenders of LBE and have a molle 2 patrol pack with my get home LBE. Fits good.
Only one magazine for the primary weapon? I probably add a canteen in the space for the dump pouch. But thats just me. Great set up, i learned some things. Thanks, major.
Nice setup. My training is all pistol or 3gun competition so my belt is alway too full. It’s good to have some ideas on how to rearrange for emergencies.
Solid overall except the serpa holster. Can't use those in many different classes for good reason. If going with a serpa I'd use one without the press lock button on it. Better yet, add a light on the pistol and use a solid light bearing holster.
Andrew try turning your pistol magazines around with the round facing to the rear. Much faster on the reload with the glock. I had them facing forward for years, and it required more manipulation when reloading, then was shown how it was faster rear facing.
Simple and straight forward. Thanks Andrew. Hope the wife appreciates your effort in teaching others and lets the table thing go..otherwise nice knowing you. lol.
No mil experience here but was cool to see you attach the extra TQ the same way I ended up doing it (rubber bands). I wasn't sure if it was a good idea or not but it's worked so far. Gonna keep rockin' it now! Thanks!
In that canteen, I want koolaid and sugar, or if your kidneys can handle it, Tang is even better. Tepid water does not lend itself to being gulped down enough to keep you hydrated. In fact, one of your water bottles should be a squeeze bottle, so you can FORCE fluid down your throat. Yes, you need to bleach the stuff out, now and then, cause bacteria can grow in it, put there by your mouth. Guess what?mold and bacteria are a LOT harder to deal with in a pack-bladder.
Safariland has battle belt holsters that can use the QLS system for quick removal when needed. They don't ride too low, and still use one thigh strap. They are worth the money.
I would give anything to Serve. I can do anything a Hero can do. Except, the Armed Forces won't take people who have a small, slightest of Heart Murmurs.......including those the hardly audible ones. I think I could have made a difference. C'est La Vie.
Ready to deal with Tango Zombies! With the world getting pretty messy and so many things happening to the USA I am seeing some serious preparations here.

T Y again, Sir! A lot is to like about this belt setup. The Glock is hard to beat for a dependable semiauto. The back scout position for the excellent knife offers carry within strong hand reach, plus concealment from front view. The terrific tourniquet on the belt, plus one with a pack, make an important pair for compound wounds. The inner friction-belt band seems to help obviate a shoulder yoke. The skeletal Kydex paddle holster is comfortable, durable, & versatile. I use a vintage G.I. tanker holster over shoulder for a semiauto 9mm , a compact .357 revolver, or a single-action .45 Colt revolver, all equally well-fitting. I like the bandolier stud for its quiet operation of the holster strap. A pistol can fall out via a neglected strap, though! .
Or maybe choose a smaller and lighter gun? It is not the primary weapon, but only a backup - emergency one. I'd rather have more AK ammunition than burden myself with a pistol. You have to remember that all this has to be carried.
Nice to hear you refer to your wife… I’m sure you teach your family all these things… ~Grow your own team… God bless you, Andrew and your family… Thank you for all you do to share your knowledge with us…every week… you are appreciated and loved… 🙏🏻❤️
Was kinda hoping youd start incorporating firearms into your survival training. I get the immense risk from yt, but its a niche that isnt filled. Closest we have is Paul Harrell who is in poor health. Give em hell!
Yes I do need a Battle Belt with ALL THE ESSENTIAL GEAR. Now the important part. IF I DO have a full load of ESSENTIALS for the WIFE- what about a combat vest load out or the BATTLE BELT with suspenders or is there something else. Also - Do you or YOUR WIFE have suggestions for a smaller belt system ( could just be a leather belt with a small or medium holstered pistol With one reload/magazine - + a fixed blade knife) until the larger System could be picked up along with the Primary weapon.)
#AATW .... and then some Brother. Subscribed, bell rung, commented, upvoted, liked, shared ... may the algorithm gods smile favorably upon your channel.
a pocket 9mm hits 50% harder than a pocket .38 and has 40% more ammo and can be reloaded 2-3x faster than the revoler. The auto also lays flat enough to go unnoticed in a front pants pocket. Not true of the revolver. autos are easily fitted with luminous sights. Not true of snubby 38s. Small autos, if they are SA types, can be used swaifty and accurately with much less practice than fighting the DA revovler's heavy pull and rotational torque. But either type of gun is not capable of standing up to the 5000+rds per year of full power ammo needed to remain skilled with it. So you need a very similar belt gun and/or a pocket 22 of the same type to practice with, so your pocket gun skills stay at a hight level, without beating the crap out of your actual carry gun. When i pracice wit my pocket 9mm, I use 380 type wussy handloads in it, 125 gr lrn at 700 fps.. I have both a 22 understudy and a similar belt gun.
I used to think Serpa-style holsters with the index finger unlock paddle were great - until an instructor (former SEAL) warned against pressing your index finger inward anywhere near the bang switch. One slip under stress and you've gored yourself or a friendly or given away your position. I've since gone to Safariland GLS holsters with the thumb release. I feel much safer. Thoughts, Andrew?
I feel really good about my setup. Thanks. The only variances are: I use a bicycle inner tube stretched over the belt to hold a _CAT and penny cutter_ on the left side and my multi tool on the right. Very accessible and low profile. My IFAK is in a fanny pack that I can swing around to the front to work from, and it has few more options. My knife is a _Khukri_ style mount roughly in the same place and manner. And I do have a dump pouch. Additionally, I use the _Safariland QLS system so I can swap weapons or configurations and continue using the same belt.
this is WAY too much stuff on your belt and most of it is either going to ruined when you low- crawl, or hurt you when you dive-prone (being shot-at) or both. I have Velcro on the mouths of my cammie pants pockets (the front ones) so that when I crawl, debris goes not get onto the pistol or the spare mag. Other Velcro tabs are needed to keep debris out of the Velcro "mouth-tabs' when the pockets are not being held-shut, The pistol is very rarely any real, long-term help in full on combat scenarios, other than to commit suicide to avoid lots of pain. the chances of you living to tell of your MISSING 30+ times (ie, two double stack mags) is zero. You'll probably never survive needing to fire 6 shots in any one scenario, unless you have cover or help. If you have cover, you can swap mags
Some guys do run a canteen on the belt. I came in when LBEs, the Y and H harness, were still in use so I’ve carried canteens on a belt before. Usually a Camelbak is on the plate carrier as the water source. This belt is for short term or limited threat. Water isn’t the top priority. However, I understand the need and obvious utility of having a water source.
I get it. I guess we all have notions, however realist, of why we'd be wearing a battle belt these days / under what circumstances. I'm old school 82nd, so a lot of my ideas are dated, and I don't run with a Camelbak, which of course would make a difference. Thanks! @@RangerSurvivalandFieldCraft
you need to stage that TQ my friend :) and you will notice how quickly that plastic windlass breaks after 4-5 turns. rather get the TAC V2 TQs that are mil spec and used by Whiskey68 operators
Another great video. I was kind of surprised that you use the Serpa holster given all the hate there is for it. Many people say it is dangerous & shouldn't be used because of its design & inferior construction & high failure rate. Many gun schools won't allow the Serpa to be used during their training. At one point I think the National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service banned SERPAs from use by officers, as have many sheriffs and police departments. I believe the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center have also banned them, but I am going on old data. I always thought that it sucked for those people whose doctrine dictates using the Serpa being banned from using it during some training schools. I've had one & used it for years without having any problems & I beat the heck out of it. I do see the possibility of a negligent discharge based on the retention mechanism, but again, I've never had a problem with it. I have switched to a different retention holster now though. For using the battle belt for home defense, I think a flashlight is missing. Being able to identify an intruder in the middle of the night is a top priority. Plus the light can be used for disorienting an intruder or signaling for help. I like both a weapon mounted light & regular high lumen flashlight. If I could only have one, I would choose a flashlight. For the home defense battle belt, I would also add a charged cell phone to the belt. I have a dedicated cell phone that just sits there charging on the belt. It's always there in case it's needed & 911, the non-emergency Sheriff & medical numbers are set up on speed dial. Thanks again for another great video. I look forward to the next one...
SIR ANDREW, dumb to all of this but trying to learn. The rate that myself and i am sure other are learning can be over whelming at times..Thankful for your calm and helpful approach and instruction. Never heard of anyone else doing this but it really works. i cut up innertubes of bicycles from fat tires on down , and motorcycle tubes of mini bikes on up to use as Rubber bands. Same color as the B2 and just as veratile Plus you can stack them 4 or 5 high to double as a tourniquet
I guess your ranger training didn't get you ready for an irate wife, failure on the governments part....they should include that. Just kidding, youncant possibly train for EVERY situation.
How come when you wear it, it’s a war belt. Any belt you’re wearing during war is a war belt. When it’s a cop it’s a duty belt, when you’re Batman it’s a utility belt. Arguably they all do the exact same thing. Batman’s is the only accurate description. Weapons, first aide, tools and other gadgets.
Yeah that Blackhawk serpa holster told me not to bother watching any more. Is today holster for a 1911, but with a Glock pistol it's considered so dangerous no shooting course I've ever been to allow it on property.
