@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 года назад

Hi Cesar. At time 9:40 you are sewing over a join with several layers of allowance material. I have found this situation to give a lump or bad looking join in the finished product, especially if doing it with a French seam. Do you have any tricks to cut the seam allowance to reduce the bulk in that join? I think this could make a good video topic. Thank you /John
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 года назад
Interesting commentary! The 'trick' to avoid those 'lumps' consists in folding both seams one to the left and the other to the right. If necessary a 'cut' is done closer to the edge. A tip: minute four:25 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ECdhJhPmA7U.html Another tip: minute eight:02ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UR0Sx1DhZJA.html Hope it helps.

What do you recommend materials for car seats vinly or leather please?
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 2 года назад
It depends on our budget and liking. Vinyl is cheap, natural leather is more expensive. I'd rather use a combination of fabric for central panels and vinyl for the other parts. Leather or vinyl heats up so much due to daily sunrays, or too cold in chilly days.

Thank Cesar, excellent as always. How thick is the foam you use for backing? 3mm or 1/8" ? /John
@Cechaflo
@Cechaflo 4 года назад
Dear John, For this training I have used 1/4" of an inch thick foam. On real car seats, we could use the same thickness foam all over. But if we want to do some special foamed design that requires more padding on seating panel then 1/2" of an inch on top panels and 1/4" of an inch for lateral surrounding panels. The foam I used for the big central panel of this sample is the same I show (minute seven:05) in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sQVfilWQ3Z8.html This foam is special because it has a percentage of 'memory'. It means it is very resilient and recuperates its form immediately. It is of 'medium density'. It is used for tennis insoles. From now on I am going to use this product for my foamed designs (top panels). The other foams I would use for lateral panels.
