Basic DCC for Model Railroads - Why Can't I Run Non DCC Bachmann Spectrum Locomotives on DCC?

Well explained Dale. It is square wave A.C.Did you know Marklin developed digital back in 1983, it was Delta.Then came MPX,a much better system.The principle is the same as DCC for DC motors,except you don't need to rectify at the motor.By the way Marklin digital will run on analogue AC controllers with better slow running but you lose the functions. I have both AC and DC locos and systems.

I'm interested in hearing about dead rail and bluetooth systems with DCC to find out the pros and cons and peoples experiences.Certainly makes sense outdoors but also inside to eliminate track problems and DCC sensitivity to dust.

No my eyes didn’t glaze over. They didn’t have decoders for N scale when I got started. Of course the technology has caught up and the decoders are available. Shower I just want to run 3 trans at once so I really don’t need DCC. Great video and good explanation.

DCC is great but it is very susceptible to bad electrical pickup / dirty track. Its not just that the train can slow or hiccup, but the decoder will reset and then the sound restarts which is very annoying. I have added Current Keeper's to my HO engines but can be very difficult to find the space. I wish the DCC spec had required at least some level of CC.

There is a way to convert AC motors to DCC and there is an article in the Stan Ames DCC book so that Marklin can be converted.

Lionel's Legacy/TMCC and MTH's DCS are basically the AC equivalent to DCC....

I don't do DCC because I am a deaf disabled veteran. I run DC on my layout for my Southern railway layout.

Why does the industry doesn't consider ADA, if the locomotive sound was Bluetooth to my hearing aids that is why can hearing aids link to my cellphone.

DCC is indeed Alternating current.
