Basic & Easy How to draw a roof truss section detail in AutoCAD Tutorial 

Hi Derek. I have been slowly working on that. What you can do in the mean time, is type UNITS in AutoCAD, then in the drop down box under 'Inertion Scale", change that to Inches, then click OK. That will adjust the nail plate sizes. The default of 90mm can't be changed as yet, not until i release an update for the imperial system. Out of interest, when you input lengths for lines, polylines etc., how would you input 6 foot 3 inches? (6'3")? It would be good to know for the update. Thanks Derek

It won't be stamped for approval. Drawing trusses for building plans are only indicative. The truss would need to be designed by a structural engineer or approved by a truss manufacturer. However a truss manufacturer won't certify a truss for you to make yourself, you would need them to also make the truss or trusses for you. Depending on how the truss is designed, also depends on whether you can make it yourself. Manufactured trusses usually use specially designed nail plates that are pressed into timber with hydraulic presses, and the manufacturer will give you computations to give to pass the codes for structural integrity. You can't generally do that yourself as you won't have machines or calculations to prove the trusses integrity. Nail plates you can buy from the hardware store that you can hammer in won't usually be accepted. A structural engineer could design a truss you can make yourself if you tell them that, and it will likely be made with gussets instead of nail plates. (Depends on span of truss) Gussets are usually steel so they will need to be custom made. I have also seen plywood gussets too which would be easier to make yourself. Good luck
