Coach Douglas Esposito shares a basic passing system for the guard including breaks and passes.
Since the coach probably missed the post by Li Jiang (and also for easier to use format imo)

13:18 Shoulder in belly
16:36 Violator/Combat Knee Break
20:04 Knee Thru Pass
25:51 Cross knee pass

34:10 Leg pull on Turk pass
36:06 Jump behind on Turk pass

Vanguard Gym you should add table of contents to your video descriptions for quicker reference. I know you are probably really busy but it would become a great tool! Thanks

Jonathan Hébert yea they would be nice, but I mean these videos are extremely detailed and free already. I think that we as users/consumers want something simple like TOC, such a thing could easily be crowd-sourced in the way that users like Li, you, or I can contribute to the content by noting the timestamps ourselves, then posting them up for others to benefit.

So much detail. This guy really knows his shit.

Really like the last one. Sometimes when the guy brings the top leg up and is persistent you can go over his top leg with your right knee and end up with that leg between his legs. This is actually what I know as the Turk position. Fan his other leg out with your right leg, Grab the belt with the right hand and It’s an easy way to bring your right leg and come to mount from there.

I got to say: Great job! I really liked this "basic/fundamentals" series you made about escaping side control and passing the guard. It is really nice to have this kind of breakdown techniques showing different positions from specific postures. And what is more interesting, how they connect to each other. This kind of "What if" scenarios really helps to build up the big picture. Thanks very much for sharing the knowledge with such passion! Definitely subbed to follow new contents! Keep up the good work!Ossss

I'm learning so much from your videos. I've come from judo so Guard passing is new to me, especially since most bjj guys seem to sit down as soon as they hear judo...

LOL - we love takedowns/judo at my gym, but yes, sitting guard is very prevalent. Im glad these techniques are serving you well!

@@jeffreyfulkerson9684 not "almost" more like definitely. The audio is painful when the weightlifters are slamming weights around.

Thanks for more vids coach. The level of detail and the ease in which you teach are top notch. I'm trying to memorize all this since upper belts get most attention at my gym. I'd Like to suggest you go arm bar the noisy dead-lifter in the background though ;-). Thanks again and much success for you in the new year.

I love every video you post! Great 👍 instruction, you are such a great teacher 👉BUT only one ☝️ lil gripe Just one ☝️ PLEASE for the love of Volume, wanting to hear your instruction, & my head by the time we were 12 min in was pounding SEND the barbell throwing yahoo out the door or shoot the video and not allow weights for the short time you film. I only tell you this because I’m a big fan, a new subscriber, and I love your BJJ instructions 2👍👍up I look forward to more vids

Great video. I do have one question: When you do Knee Thru Pass at about 21:50 and 25:11, after you get the cross face, defender has left hand free to block hips. (A big problem for me on all my passes.) What can I do about that? Thanks.
@BJJCurriculum
@BJJCurriculum 7 лет назад
Thanks! If he is blocking my hip with his left hand I can usually put more pressure with my hips than he can with his hand, but if not you can switch to cross-knee with your left leg to the same side or force the mount by stepping over with the left leg. He is giving you space to switch by blocking with his outstretched arm. None of these techniques exist in a vacuum - you need to be able to transition to the other techniques in the series he makes space for by defending the initial attack, escape, or transition.

Why are the banners so big? seriously, shrink those to like 1/2 that size. You can't see some of the hand position because of it

We are lucky to share our gym with Olympic Weightlifters, Power Lifters, and CrossFit folks. Now we have a wall that cuts down on the noise, but we haven't always had that. These are all classes I've taught over the last four or five years and weren't originally shot for release, but we felt the instruction was good enough that people would enjoy the free resource. All the best! Coach Doug
