i recently had my service and panel updated from a 60 fuse panel to a 30 space 100a circuit breaker panel. I did this because I wanted to add a mini split and I knew they would look askance at my old 16 space fused system that was maxed out - not because of ampacity but because of the lack of free circuit space. This house was built in 1916 with a single 30a 120v service, it was upgraded to a 60a 240 panel in the 1960's and I added a couple of 4 circuit fuse panels off that panel after I bought the house in 1981. The only time I blew a fuse was when I cut heavy oak on my table saw, that stopped when I rewired the saw for 240v. Since the mid 80's I have not blown a fuse for 25 years. I replaced the old panel because i wanted space for more circuits, the old system was safe and it did it's job.

I live in a 64 year old house and have been running desktop computers , notebook computers and tablets (charging them) since the mid 1980’s. All the wiring (copper) and the circuit breaker box (Federal Pacific) are original. I have never had a problem and neither have my neighbors. There are many houses in this subdivision and none of them have burned down or experienced uneven electrical supply to the extent that they damaged any equipment. Devices will only draw the current they need. A 15 amp circuit doesn’t mean that anything plugged in will be receiving 15 amps. Most appliances or devices only draw a fraction of what a given circuit could deliver. That’s why circuits are interrupted only when they are overloaded by an appliance drawing more than the circuit can bear.
