I'm a 16 year old girl who wants to get into mechanics and maybe even engineering but I've never had anyone to teach me how to do small tasks. I can't even use a drill properly, so I feel like I have a huge disadvantage every time I'm in class. this really helped me get a better basic understanding of it all

Nehla, I have some recommendations for you. IF you can, ask a cousin or neighbor to teach you how to do some simple repairs so you can familiarize yourself with basic tools. Join a home-maintenance class, if there's one around you. Sometimes you can find a workshop designed "for women", and while I think that's quite sexist, the advantage of those courses is that the instructor will not assume you know things already, so the lessons will start from zero. There's a lot you can learn that way! If you're still in school, see if there's an engineering, robotics, woodwork, or similar club or course. Those tend to be very collaborative and fun. Finally, subscribe to RU-vid channels that cater to DIYers. There's a lot of knowledge and experience being generously shared online, take advantage of that. And when YOU become an expert, please pay it forward. Remember what it felt like to not know these things, and teach others so they can feel empowered too!

For years I owned only a small hammer and a large hammer and seemed to do just fine. Then my father in law bought me a phillips and flat head screwdriver and the heavens opened up. It made me the man I am today. Forwarded your video to my son in law. Thanks.

This is hands down the best video out there on the most BASIC and most VERSATILE kit. I watched it... watched some others... and then came back to watch this again. Thanks!!!!

I worked at home depot for 4 years...while it wasn't great money the knowledge I got out of it made it worth it there's almost no job around the house I don't feel comfortable doing myself.

Great selection of tools for a starter kit. The only items I'd suggest adding would be a flashlight, electrical tape & duct tape.

EXCELLENT video Jeremy!! I gave both my girls these very items when they each left the nest. We were just the three musketeers as they grew up in their early years because their dad took a different path. It was great for all of us in the end. We were happier. Anyway... (SQUIRREL 😂) I was no where near as handy as you but I still think every young women should have the basics. They both have husbands now but still have their "mom tools" and are better at fixing a leaky sink or toilet than their husbands. LOL (They both married WONDERFUL men!!! I love them dearly!) Thank you for doing this. You guys are just amazing!!!! God Bless ~Lisa

Put together my own tool set over the past 6 months and keep it in my trunk so the boys don't "borrow " items that never find their way home. Today I got my first light duty chainsaw...never used one before but can't wait to learn! Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Good advice. It never worked for me to get the assembled tool kit with all the little divots for the pieces because when I lost a few, the replacements weren't the right size. They are very reasonably priced, though, and have worked for me as far as quality. Now days, the cheap tools are actually pretty good quality.

I was going to suggest a pipe wrench for a basic kit but then I saw your large grooved pliers. Such a useful tool as long as they use the directional tool the right way ;) For someone putting together their first kit, it is probably best to buy all these types of tools during Black Friday.

Comes with some down sides; You can easily mis-place bits Switching between flat head and Phillips can be irritating Usually don't have the same length. I love mine and its flexibility, it came with a vast array of bits that takes up next to no space, but I will be grabbing a decent dedicated Phillips and flat head soon.

One might add to this a razor knife and side cutting pliers, perhaps even 1/4 and 5/16 nut drivers. You really should have specified the #2 Philips screwdriver.

Wranglerstar recons that Ryobi items are RUBBISH!! Not saying I agree, just would like your opinion?
@Guildbrookfarm
@Guildbrookfarm 6 лет назад
I’ve been using the ones I inherited for 10 years. The batteries don’t last longer than 18 months but these are pretty old versions of what you can get today. If I were buying a new set of cordless tools I’m not sure what brand it would be because most all of them are made in the same place now. The branding is just marketing and profit.
@tmk7775

Nah, they're a cheaper brand. They won't have tons of power but good for peopke who dont use the tools often.

Don't cheap out on the screwdrivers... cheap ones will make your life miserable (esp Phillips). Buy something German if you can afford it.
@AlphasonikK

I recommend PB Swiss, I actually look for things to fix because the screwdrivers fit so well, very satisfying.
