Quick demonstration of how my uncles taught me how to lace up my Suede Pumas with Fat Laces back in the 90's. Rate them on RateStarr app @digginLA @KingLAmar
The trick is getting those inner eyelets just big enough for the lace to loop back through. They still get loose after a while, but this is the masterclass. Much props!
Yeah man that’s a tight system. That’s the one drawback with phat laces in the suedes. They pinch in the eyelet and sometimes the suede can transfer onto the lace. This eliminates both issues.
Doooooood, that is genius. I vaguely remember wearing fat laces in the 80's but definitely didn't recall this. I was like 8 or 9, I think when I started wearing em, but I don't recall this system. It's more than possible that we did, but just don't recall. We coulda just laced em thru the holes and plumped em after...not nearly as graceful or badass as this, though. Hope we did it like this one, is like a math proof. 😆 I'm like 4 hours drive north of NYC. I remember us break dancing, like as a community, in a group, and I know I was doing it in 3rd grade, because I won an unofficial "contest." 🙄 Think I was 9 in 3rd grade... Then, or w/in a few years of then, I woulda had the laces. I'm 47...so....38 years ago? Daaaaang, yikes. So, around '85 to, say, '87-ish I woulda been wearing the laces. Anyone know where-ish or when-ish this method originated? Had to be around then, I assume...? Or did it come substantially later, after the fat laces had been popular a bit? And did this come out of NYC? Or east coast, somewhere else? I was hanging out with kids from the city and relatives of theirs who lived up here and would go back to visit regularly. So, thinking we got fads fairly fast...? So interesting. Some genius kid prolly thought it up. Great piece of the past. Thanks for posting.
