Extra reading glasses. If one pair needs new screws you'll need another pair so you can see to repair them
@liespypolygraph

I agree. Extra reading glasses are perhaps the most important! If you can't see the food on your plate without glasses like me, this is the first priority.

Extra eye glasses in general-I tell my mom to get new glasses at Costco as often as her vision insurance allows! If all you have is one pair and anything were to happen (lost, broken, etc), the resulting situation could be very dangerous, including being unable to drive safely…

Good advice. I would add to keep a set of tiny screwdrivers in case you need to repair your eyeglasses. Add to that, some clear nail polish. When you repair your glasses with the screwdrivers, also coat the top of the screws with clear nail polish. It stops them coming out.

Forget toothpaste, store baking soda to use as a total replacement it’s your mouths and teeth’s best friend. I have not wasted money on toothpaste in 60 years and my dentists over the years are amazed at my dental health. Also consider using sparingly hydrogen peroxide once or twice a week as a supplement. Together you have a total regimen for your teeth and also gum care.

During the recent Prime Day sales, I found the 60 serving buckets of NutriStore freeze-dried meats were discounted,so I splurged and bought one. The meat can store up to 25 years and, on sale, cost me about $3 per serving. That seems high right now, but 10 years from now, with continuing inflation, may seem like a bargain. Added to the #10 cans of freeze-dried meat I already had, I am now assured I can have pre-cooked chicken and beef in the future whenever there might be a severe disruption of the food supply chain. That meat will make those rice and beans or spaghetti and tomato sauce food storage meals taste a lot better. Food storage is insurance against hunger. Stock up. Be prepared, not scared.

If there is no access to a heating pad, an old fashioned hot water bottle can come in handy. It can hold hot or even cold water to help with various ailments. Recently, I used it filled with ice water to bring down some swelling. My grandmother was always using hers filled with hot water for sore muscles.

Very good advice to store what is most likely to happen or is the real danger where you live. Situational circumstances and awareness. I live below seal level near the coast so flooding is the most likely to happen. This could mean all water is conteminated and electricity is down. I store drinking water and washing water, a gas stove with gas cans, a woodstove for when gas runs out, candles to light and warm up the house, cash, etc. Everything you say is true but you have to remember that if shtf it's probably gonna be your entire neighborhood, city, or even region that's affected so all people now want the same stuff. So don't tell anybody who can locate you (except family and very close friends) what you have stored is also a good idea. As a general rule don't tell anybody you're not willing to share your supplies with. I call this social awareness.

nice shot of that eagle !!! this is how I prep, I like having a wide variety of foods in my stash, including spices. when I dealt with my apartment flooding then my previous fridge crapping out I did dip into my canned food stash. I have recently replaced some of what I lost in my fridge and freezer and slowly replacing what I ate from my cannned food supply

I have a P-38 on my keychain (along with a mini flashlight), but I am going to get some P-51s (Amazon has both sizes by US Shelby, an American company), as they are slightly longer thus a little easier to use. Another thing folks should think about is carrying a good pocket knife (I’ve carried one since I was eight!😁). I keep mine in my jeans pocket (I wear men’s jeans simply because they have larger/deeper pockets😁), but ladies who use purses can certainly drop one in there. I also carry one or two bandannas; you’d be amazed what you can do with them in a pinch!🤗

Great advice on everything you discussed. Your point of being aware of what’s going on locally. Lots of people say they don’t watch the news but even if it’s often not pleasant, we have to know what’s going on in our communities. Everything is so expensive but keep watch for some deals, stores may offer sales that are good for a few days but can be a rare deal you want to take advantage of.

For some people, running out of beer is an emergency as well as having their local restaurant not be open or the grocery stores closed for a holiday. Another emergency for some people would be not being able to find a can opener or their mascara, perhaps nail glue for when one breaks. What if you can't get the gourmet cheese you love or the artisan bread you demand? What if the maid can't get to your mansion to clean your clothes off the floor? What if the person you thought you were going to rob is prepared for your attempts? What if the person you were going to con into cooking for you catches on and won't answer their phone? What if you don't know what a paring knife, trivet, baking sheet, cutting board, bowl, lemon squeezer is or how to use it so you simply don't have it when you need it and are forced to cook for yourself? So many emergencies for the unprepared!

Thanks for another good video. I think the recent internet outage shows us that something major can happen with no warning and really affect many things. We have seen some canned meats being discontinued at our large Kroger affiliate stores, so be aware that they may be reducing or eliminating some choices for meat and fish for some reason. Last year for example, they stopped carrying all brands of canned turkey. They also reetnly discontinued the Hereford roast beef in gravy, and it was sold out in a couple of days. Even the power going out for a short period of time is confusing and upsetting to people, and that also happens with no notice. Take a moment to check the discontinued racks or sections in stores, we've found some good deals there too. The Dollar Tree stores around here seem to have less and less food items and even things like the canned vegetables are smaller cans or they are more expensive than the grocery store. We have a cardboard box that our copy paper came in, I marked it as picnic supplies and put any extra napkins and plastic utensils, also a few lightweight plastic tablecloths. Some put these in the recycles if they get carry out and don't use them but you never know if these will be useful in case the water or power is out.

Also concerning, the next outage could be a cyber attack. Then what do we do!?

Seeing that majestic eagle at the beginning of this video and then hearing dogs barking reminded me of something a friend told me recently. She lives next to a lake in Washington State where many eagles nest. Not long ago a neighbor was walking her miniature dachshund on a leash, an eagle swooped down and grabbed her dog. If Elvis hadn’t been on a leash, the eagle would have been able to take him. He did require a few stitches but thankfully is making a full recovery. As a long time Alaskan I’m sure you’re aware of the potential danger to sweet little Teddy. Scary! Just thought I’d mention it.❤
@AlaskaGranny
@AlaskaGranny 2 месяца назад
Thanks for the warning. Yes, eagles do swoop down at Teddy, but I never leave him unattended in the yard. Years ago, an owl caught a neighbor's little dog on a snowy morning, and he chased it with a shovel in his underwear!!

Gidday Alaska Granny. Very good advice as always. I recently added to my preps with pantry stable items that I bought on special. I also added a new item, tinned smoked oysters in spring water. My Mom did this type of weekly shopping due to Depression era raising. No electricity, no problem. Make fire in the grills, fireplace or on the ground to heat up water or canned food. Use the containers for other things when empty. Big freeze a few years ago, hurricane, heat induced electricity failure and economic crisis are not a nutritional emergency using this method. Stay safe ❤️🕊
