In this video, I'll show you how to set up and use the new FJD Trion P1 handheld SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) scanner. The kit includes the scanner, charger, base plate, and an Insta360 camera.
I'll walk through the full workflow:
Connecting the camera and configuring the Insta360
Setting up the base plate for control point registration
Powering on the scanner and connecting via WiFi
Positioning the scanner for optimal 360 coverage
Starting a new scan project and scanning each room
Capturing an outdoor scan for cloud-to-cloud registration
Tips for getting the best scan quality and registration
I'll also share some pro tips on workflow and scan techniques to ensure you get high-quality point cloud data.
At the end, I'll explain how to download the scan data and give an overview of the FJD Trion software for post-processing.
If you're in the London area and want to try out the FJD Trion P1 scanner, feel free to reach out - I may be able to arrange a demo or rental.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

You have made a few mistakes. Putting your hands in front of you while you talk for example, the X scan angle is 180°, meaning you must hold the scanner in front of you, including in front of your other extremities such as arms and legs. Also don’t lay the unit on its back like that when initialising. Instead, stand it on its base (which is literally the function of the base). You should only tilt it back like that when you are passing a narrow space such as a hall way or corridor

that's what I've been told and taught by the FJD team on initialising the scanner, and it has not made a big difference if it does pick up arms as it gets rid of it in processing. TBH it is quite heavy to hold far away from your body.

Very good tho, have you had any chance to scan bigger things, larger indoor spaces or outdoor? Would love to see some more content with this scanner

I have done larger areas of around 500m and my guys done a whole road for a topo. that was around an 8min scan and included 3 control points. the only problem is rescan overlaps, I've created a python script to remove that using the trajectory and pointcloud data's las file

You should also have all doors and things already open before you scan, as opening and closing messes up the reference between points already verified, which leads to less accuracy and also ghost points and noise.
