For Americans the quick unpick is known as a seam ripper! Be sure to ask for that if you're buying one in an American store or they'll have no idea what you're talking about.
I was about to put a time stamp and go: "IT'S A SEAM RIPPER" and then add something to make sure people get that it's kind of a joke and they don't need to get all offended lmao
Awesome tutorial for beginners! It's awesome to see a tutorial like this and it's a really handy tool for new makers, as well as a refresher for veterans. Keep up the great work ^^
5 years later and as someone who has made 3 suits total, I found this tutorial still really amazing and learned how to vertical pin stuff? I'll have to try it out. Seems like it would make life 10x easier for the price of a couple pins being sacrificed
Hello! I’m kind of new to the furry fandom! This is my first year and I’m making a Dinomask and have no idea how to sew or anything. Thank goodness my mom has sewing stuff though. I’m a little confused how to sew curved edges. Tysm for this tutorial it really helped. I’m gonna use the blanket stitch for my hood and ears!:3
This was pretty helpful! I got a little scared when you were sewing over the pins - they could break and fall into your machine! (It might be just my type of machine, though!)
Very nice! Love that you went through things like setting up the machine and winding a bobbin, since many people don’t have someone to teach them these things :)
Hi! I’m a bit experienced in sewing and I have a few tips. First try using a smaller more close together stitch. Try keeping them the same distance apart, it doesn’t matter if there is small variations but variations more than a quarter inch aren’t exactly good. If you are using a machine experiment with different stitch styles. And with both are you keeping about a half inch “flap” just for sewing? Make sure when you are tying off make it TIGHT. I hope this helps!
like Xoffles said, use smaller sewing lines, but to make it better, most makers in their tutorials will tell you to brush out the seams, and it decreases the seam line's visibility.
Quick note!! You don't need to get rid of bent needles!! I only get rid of mine when they snap! They are actually easier to use when bent!! (for me, at least. Not sure about everyone else...)
Brand new to sewing and stuff and wondering, when working with fur, if there are instances where I should be using a machine vs. hand stitching or is it just personal preference? Just got myself an old straight-stitch machine and would be totally game using it for joining these fur bits if there's no real visible difference vs. hand blanket stitching them.
Hi , that was really helpful for me! But I can't know because machine is broken, this machine is old and I don't think it's going to work , but that was my first machine for my birthday.
The tutorial was really helpful, but I still don’t really understand how to thread the machine and where the bobbin goes. I can’t figure out where exactly the thread from the bobbin is supposed to go, help?
Hey sky, in your raffle stream the other day you asked for ideas for video and I think I have one that you could use Card against humanity with several custom furry black and white cards.
How do we know what stitch to use on a sewing machine? Also, how close together should I be making my threads when handsewing? Also, what do you do when you run out of thread in the midle of a piece, for both methods?
Great work , i did learn a little bit more on sewing techniques... And lol in not dat good at using a sewing machine though... But i do sew all my Fursuits by hand though....😅🤣
i do have a question for you. Why is the blanket stitch the preferred stitch to fur suits. I have just learned to do this by hand and find it fascinating. :) Is it because it's friendly to the fabric or really strong or both? BTW Love your videos and when I first learned to make a head my skills at first came from your videos. I also watched the horror story of your video you elaborated with us of the glue gun incident. Scary stuff. I have one too, but it was a bad burn. I hope you are well these days and wish you success in your art. :)
Hey skye, I need some help, I live in Australia and I cannot find foam anywhere (although I found some online but it doesn’t ship to Australia) also could you tell me the price
Some audio tricks for you, small bean :3 Look into getting a pop filter if you don't have one already :3 This will help with the plosives; like b's and p's and such... Also; consider just... knocking out everything 100hz or below to reduce rumble; but this is optional... :)
Couldn’t hear much noise, so thought it was fine :P I’m a light technician not a sound technician so I don’t have the ear for it just yet, I’d usually use my NT-2A but I was using an SM for recording over, but I should have a popsheild somewhere in my cupboard :P
