I’m making a comic that includes katana fights so this will help with choreography for the drawing

The time honored tradition has been right hand over left when holding the sword. I can't answer your question about how many arts of the sword currently exist. Even if we limit it to Japan, there are many many schools. My experience with the bokken is from Aikido, whose founder, O'Sensei, received his early kenjutsu training from Nakai Masakatsu, a practioner of Shinkage-ryu (or new shadow school) founded in the late 1500's. Our use of the sword is adatpted for training in Aikido.

thank you very much. I am doing a little research on basic and generic samurai strikes for a personal project and this is the most helpful

Excellent video Sensei Wedell. Clearly filmed and with the bonus of having the written names of the techniques. Most useful. I appreciate you are teaching in class, but the only drawback with wearing a hakama is that I cannot clearly see your footwork. Thank you for posting this video.

the hakama is meant for that, right? If so, it is showing its work, though I agree with you

Thank you. I am no expert, but I feel like I can now at least perform a few basic techniques without looking utterly amateurish and ridiculous.

Hello, I love "kenjutsu" or "the art of the sword", being from one martial art or another. I have recently made a home-made bokken or wooden sword with a piece of "bamboo" you could say, and I am asking ¿how many "arts of swords" are still existing nowadays? I am asking you because I want reliable information, not what anyone on the internet says with no idea of the subject. And one more thing,¿how do you take the sword like?shall I put my left or right hand above or below?thanks and great video.

Depends upon if you're right or left-handed. Your dominant hand goes forward.

You don't learn Aikido (or any other Martial Arts) from an online course. These videos are supporting a serious training with a qualified instructors, and partners, in a dojo.

Elisa Danese not true. Martial arts can be self taught if you are disciplined. It’s a shame to limit yourself to only learning in a dojo. Self teaching can yield some very special results

Also so helpful as a understanding and introduction. doing no harm to the real martial arts enthusiast. Money grabing Doyangs dont like it attal.Seriouse Doyangs have no problem with it as assisting branch of training.
