This cadence gets real. I remember the first time our Drill Sergeant sang it. "I left my son" hit particularly hard for the guy in front of me. He couldn't bring himself to sing another line.
@@turusan02 It's not something you think about when you join. You think... oh, just 9 weeks of Basic, that's nothing. But then you got the next few weeks of advanced training, and depending on your job that can be just another couple of months to damn near half a year. I miss my sister so much.
Just went through Basic at Lackland. An airman in my flight was 37 yo married and had two kids. He was next to me one rank up, I could see his face holding back crying when we sang this Jodie for the first time
@@thecoffeebeanr6978 Heck no! I mean maybe if you’re not mentally stable to begin with. Though I had the advantage of a Vietnam vet dad and 4 years of ROTC in high school before I left. So I knew what I was getting into. The drill sergeants are playing a role. Besides teaching you the basics of soldiering basic training is a combat stress inoculation course. The drill sergeants play the role of the enemy. They set you up to fail. The kids who think they actually expect everyone to find their bag in a pile of 250 bags and be bag in formation in 30 seconds have totally missed the point. They set impossible standards you will not meet. So they have an excuse to “punish”/improve your fitness. And you learn to not sweat the small stuff. Reminds me of a former Army chief of staff talking about his time in Vietnam. Laying in the mud with bullets cracking over his head. Saying it could be worse, I could be back in Ranger school. They’re getting away from that sort of inoculation and training these days. Which is a huge mistake. Such a mistake that I can’t believe they’re really that stupid. At the risk of sounding like a conspiracy theorist it’s like they’re trying to weaken our military on purpose.
I did 24 years in the Army and I have never heard any cadence and voice go this hard, now my son is also in the Army and the lyrics hit extremely different. Really felt this 🖤💪
This is my drill sergeant, I graduated basic training today from fort Jackson South Carolina. He loves to sing this cadence. Ds Filmore can call cadences different.
@@Sandwichjelly-yf1zf I am, SC’s state hall is beautiful. Also it has 52 steps and this was a coincidence with the fact that the state house took 52 years to complete. And we have two priceless golden novelty’s, the mace and sword, both worth over 500,000 dollars.
This cadence is surprisingly deep. Basically it tells the story of a soldier who did die at war. His mama thought that he would die, his wife knew he would die, and his son... cried because his daddy died. Damn.... But the soldier, despite knowing of his impending demise, did what he needed to do to protect his wife and kids.
Nope: the original text of this cadence in the ending is: the day I left- i shook my dads hand He said that I- have become a man. There is nothing motivating singing about being dead, its more of we are in this shit together brotherhood. Yw
@@68W343 probably ft Benning or Jackson Benning has best cadence callers because the DS are from infantry that's what I've been told but unsure I can confirm after I ger through OSUT ship out June 6
I’ll never forget the day I left for basic, I was sitting down making coffee, my mom walked in the kitchen, me and her never really saw eye to eye on much, always had a strained relationship. I noticed her walk in and we stared at each other for a moment then she just completely broke down and I broke down too and we just hugged each other for a while. So when I got to basic and we started singing and the DS said “..my momma cried..” I stopped singing. Thank God she’s still around, that day our relationship got so much better.

They're well intentioned and brainwashed. They are doing the dirty work of evil people. Joining the army would be an honourable thing if it was genuinely about defense.
@@AZRAELIV like I said, the soldiers might be mostly well intentioned but they aren't helping countries change, they are actually stopping them from changing. Afghanistan was a disaster for example. The US should have backed the Taliban continuously for the past few decades and slowly encouraged them to improve things. The Taliban are the only people in Afghanistan with any bravery. The "Afghan army" ran from the fight on the same day as America left. That was after over a decade of American training. Stop deluding yourself.
Carla Williams Louder is not always better which is a statement she alone proved. Higher pitches are easy to hear among lower pitches. Assuming that she was the only women in the block, she should have balanced her voice with the rest of the men instead of singing cadence with a shrill, at times out of tune, and out of balance voice.
Carla Williams What statement did I not finish? You realize there is a "Read More" tab right? Regardless of the number of women what I have said holds firm. Also, I am not being sexist. I am just stating what is true.
I’m 8 year Army veteran with 4 OIF tours, I saw every spectrum of that cadence. I was an unmarried only child who left home, I saw my buddies leave behind wives and children and brought a few home draped in flags. This one hit home on several points. Drive on Drill Sergeant! Drive on! #AATW
I left my home - to join the army I left my home - to join the army The day I left - my mama cried She though that I - would surely die I left my wife - crying at the door She knew that I - would die at war I left my son - playing in the yard Seeing daddy leave - made him cry so hard The day I left - I shook my daddy’s hand He said that I - had become a man
The cadence can be modified. In AIT the whole formation would go "uuuuuuu" as the ds would say that part. Kind of like a hype. The training aspect of the Army is the best because although it sucks to deal with ds, you do learn a lot of cadences
You can hear the raw emotion in his voice. We've all been there, brother. Leaving family behind to go and do what needs doing is always rough. But, as the saying goes, a soldier fights not because he hates what's in front of him, but because he loves what's behind him.
Hey everyone! I just wanted to share some good news with you all. Let's just put it this way, the Ten Commandments are called the Moral Law. Ask yourself this. How many lies have you told? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you ever used God's name in vein? Have you ever hated someone or ever looked with lust? This is for you to judge yourself, but chances are that you are a lying, thieving, blasphemous, fornicating, adulterer at heart and you HAVE to face God on judgement day. Now ask yourself this. If God judges you on judgement day by these Commandments, will you be innocent or guilty? Of course you'll be guilty because we've all done these things. The truth is that none of us are good people and we NESD God's grace to make it to heaven. We judt simply cannot do it on our own. These Commandments arecalled the Moral Law. You and I broke the law, Jesus payed the fine. So now what we must do to be saved is to repent of our sins and trust alone in Jesus Christ! To repent doesn't mean to just say I'm sorry, but to turn from our sins and let Him truly be our Lord continually. He said that many will say to Him, Lord, Lord I have done all of these things for you. And He will say I never knew you. Depart from Me, ye who work iniquity! And those will be cast into outer darkness and raging hellfire and loneliness for all of eternity!!! Because we broke His law, He is very, very just to send us to hell. If someone had murdered 4 people and said to the judge, I've done nice things too and have tried to treat people nice but it was just one time, the judge would then say, okay but you're going to jail. And the judge is very just to do that. One last thing, if you were 10,000 feet in the air and you had to jump, you wouldn't jump out and flap your arms and try to save yourself. That's ridiculous! You would put on the parachute. It is the same with Jesus. You must trust Him as you trust the parachute. We are not good and we cannot save ourselves with our own goodness. We must trust alone in Him to save us. In just a moment of time you can pass from death to life. Jesus said, "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again." That is how we enter heaven. Through the blood and grace of Jesus Christ!!!!✝️If you ask someone how to enter Heaven, they will most likely say, "Be a good person." Well the Bible says that none is good, no not one. We like to compare ourselves to guys like Hitler and say, "Hey, I'm a pretty good guy compared to him." But when we compare ourselves to God's standard, we realize that the Bible speaks truth when it says that we all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God!!! When we see this ( our sin in its TRUE light), we see how much trouble we are in and we say, "Well then there's nothing I can do. I'm going to hell for sure then." It's true that there is nothing that WE can do, but there is something that has already been done for you! God sent His One and Only Son to die on a cross as a sacrifice for our sins! So to recieve that eternal sweet sweet forgiveness, all we must do is repent of our sins (meaning to continually turn from them and confess them) and trust alone in Christ as you trust a parachute. If I was to push you out of an airplane, you'd want the parachute for sure! Don't try to flap your arms and save yourself, trust in the parachute! His finished work on the Cross IS ENOUGH!! He is the only way to Heaven, He said it Himself!! These other religions teach that we must he good and do good things and then maybe if we've been good enough, we will enter Heaven. But if that is true then we are all doomed to eternal hell because none of us are good. That's why this makes sense. Look at the Ten Commandments, they are written on your heart right now!! I promise that you have violated them. And you might still be doing that today.. Therefore God is just to poor out His wrath on us because we deserve it! But Christ died for us so that we can spend eternity in Heaven with Him!! Turn to Him today, and He and only He will save your soul!! "Verily, verily I say unto you, you must be born again ( to go to Heaven)."✝️
My dad was an army veteran for iraq, now a soon to be lieutenant colonel and part of the jag corp, he told me that basic training was one of the most memorable times of his life. Best of luck to you brother.
I will never forget when my father woke me up at about 3 or 4 in the morning when I was 8 years old and kissed me goodbye as he left for his deployment. Crazy experience for me not knowing if I would ever see him again. He eventually retired from the Army after 22 years of service and now he's doing well.
This guy is a drill sergeant, look at the way he's marching. He's a pro. He's been singing this cadence for more than 10 years I'd say, as a soldier in the ranks and then as a drill sergeant. And he's still choking back tears.
“I left my home” “I left my home” “for the arrmmy” that Army the first time he said it gave me chills from the pain in his voice. Wasn’t singing he was talking, talking to me it felt like.
I loved calling cadence, and was adeptly good at it from the very beginning of my service. I still remember the day the drill pointed at me and said "448! Get in step and call cadence from left!". I didn't hesitate, fell out, took the left and busted out "V I C T O R Y". Shocked everyone because it was only day 5 and this private showed up to basic knowing about a dozen different cadences and no one was the wiser. Called cadence for the entirety of basic off and on, with the drills giving me new ones to remember. I must now know over 50 different cadences, and even in my after service veteran life find myself singing them fairly often. Really fun to sit around a bonfire with friends and have them repeat what I sing. They get to feel a small sense of the comradery that I felt when the platoon was all singing.
agreed man, reminds me of my buddy Jonathan lol... he enlisted right after school and just tried to get the rest of us to enlist with him, he was a good dude... rest in power man...@@_sex
I put this on when I’m at the gym. Gives me motivation to keep pushing onwards. Thank you, Sarge, for making me wanna push the state of Texas into the Gulf when my body wants to give upS
As my dad told me, "You don't need to join the military to make me proud" if you're doing this just to follow in your grandpa's footsteps, I'd suggest re-thinking it, I'm still joining the army when I turn 18 because I want to. If you want to because you want to do it for yourself, then nothing shall stop you.

Drill, this makes my goosebumps stand up. I'm not military and this shit has me ready to run through a wall. Whatever it's worth, I thank you for this banging cadence and teaching those young recruits to be soldiers. Hooah.
Both my parents were in the army and I remember my dad leaving a lot when I was little, and every time he would leave to go on deployment, I removed the face my mom made. She seemed so heartbroken every time, and when he came back was my favourite thing in the world. We would be waiting and then he would walk to us and my whole family would run to him. After 23 years in the army, I still have him and I have never been more grateful.

This hits hard, the reality of it all. This mixes the reality of the situation and seriousness of being a unit. It should make us all thankful for those willing to put their life’s on the line, and thankful for the men raising up the next men and women.
