I get the warm fuzzies just listening to you talk about your family, Samantha. It's a labour of love for sure. By the way, so many people have told me how sore their hands get cutting up dry cardboard. I told them to presoak it and then rip it by hand and they can't believe they didn't know that trick! All the best to you and your family! ~ Sandra
Meme, thank you so much for making this so accessible, I have a lot more ideas about how to seriously cut down the waste we're shipping out of our campground.
Here in NE Oklahoma we are lucky to have a mushroom farm. The name is J & M farms and is in Miami, OK. You can buy the mushroom compost by the yard. They may sell it by the bag. It’s great for your garden but it’s pretty hot when you first get it. It’s best if you let it set for a season before putting it on your garden. I feed it to my worms just a little bit at a time.
hi there debbie. i am also in NE Oklahoma and have some worm beds also. i use mine for the worm dirt for my large garden. i sell veggies on the side of the road on route 66 between Vinita and Claremore. i love the mushroom bedding from J&M farms.
@@farmerbobsgarden5554 My husband and I have a cattle ranch on Spring River in Miami. I have been messing with worms since 2002. I keep them for my small garden and friends and family. I love feeding my food waste to them. Well it’s great to know you are in my area. I thought I was the only worm farmer in these parts of Oklahoma.
So good to see another strong entrepreneurial woman in the worm business! I am just getting started with my compost business and excited to order some worms from you😊
Terrific video helping people starting a worm bin. Everything you touched on was spot on. You do not need fancy worm bins, do not need fancy equipment, do not need to drill holes, do not need lids with screens. Today I treat my worms basically the same way you do, except I now use grow bags. One of the best things I did when I started gardening 4 years ago was starting my worm bin. I firmly believe every serious gardener should raise worms. A good video for you would be to explain all the benefits of worm castings, and the many ways they can be used. I wish I had all this information when I started raising worms 4 years ago. Made every mistake in the book, still goof up once in a while. I totally agree with all the amendments, creating a booming microbial environment for the worms. Anyone asking where to get worms or supplies I will definitely send your way. I had my own business for over 30 years and word of mouth was my best advertising. I wish you and your family all the success you deserve. Have a warm and loving holiday season. Stay Well !!!
Awe thank you. I would love for you to send any info on how to use the castings... im an expert on growung worms but not the castings side of things!! If you would here is my email memesworms@gmail.com i would be happy to do a video!!
Oh meme this is so exciting. My quick stop ... we go through so many egg cartons. We also have a lot of those black "dish tubs" we call them. I'm so glad I found hhour videos. I just need to get educated on these worms
@@MemesWormsI was sitting here, thinking where can I get those egg cartons. I’m 70 and by myself, and have a hard time eating a dozen a month! 😂 there is an ihop right around the corner! Why didn’t I think of that?
I'm thinking about starting a compost bin with European night crawlers. I have a toad that will eat them for one. The other is, I use shredded aspen or hemp bedding for my snake enclosures, and was wondering if I can use it in the compost bin as bedding? Since I saw rabbit poop being used by someone in their compost, would snake or gecko poop work too, or does it need to come from an herbivore! I use egg crates and paper towels in my gargoyle gecko and crested gecko enclosures, which get pooped on. It would be cool if I can decrease garbage waste, and provide food for my toad.
What would recommend to use as store bought bedding , as can’t get from farm yard , and peat moss is harder to get , would organic compost do ? As bedding is only for keeping worms for fishing
Hey Meme! My name is Lucas, and I'm your neighbor through the woods over in South Carolina. This was a great video with really good information. I'm in the process of building my worm farm, (Worm Wizard Castings). I now have seven hungry bins, and I'm slowly adding on to bring up our capacity. I'm trying to make enough $ selling castings to supplement my wife's teacher's salary. Our local IGA has already told me they would be interested in getting our product in their store. I have a question. How many pounds should we package our castings into? I thought of preparing 2-3 different sizes. Small to larger. Maybe, 5, 10 and 20 pounds??? What would be your advice on this? Thank you for your time. I know it's precious.
@redhairedredneck we package ours by volume. The moisture content can make the lbs fluctuate. For this reason we do 12 and three gallon bags. We use millar bags.
Question…. I remember you saying you accidentally killed a million of your worms. How did that happen so know what not to do. Because if you did it there’s a greater chance that someone like me would do it with great ease. God Bless
The only reason I started watching was the word basic LOL. For the basic people only watch until 6min. after that I would advise you to just go and buy Worm castings lol
Do red wrigglers grow into the dendrobeana worms i have a established 50 year old horse manure pile full of little pink and red worms.. how do i get them grow into worms i can use for fishing i need them from 4 to 6 inch long
@@MemesWorms yeah im from the uk i live in england and we have lobworms or the big cannadian night crawlers here but they are expensive to buy, is it possible to take some of my red wrigglers from the horse muck pile and grow them any bigger in buckets or trays or is that mainly for breeding them
@@MemesWorms ohh right i see, so id be better of introducing a new worm to seperate buckets but instead of dumping the new horse muck on the old pile i can use that to grow my new species of worm or will i need to feed them all sorts of stuff as the horse manure is only good for the small worms is that kinda how it goes
We are always here to help. Some people just dont have the time to everything themselves. Hate we have disappointed you in some way. We are still here for you and all!
Generational Farming is the way to go! Thanks for starting square-one with this. A few of the kids I teach will be watching these with me to learn more and they can raise worms for their school and home gardens.
@@MemesWorms I'll tag you on my Instagram. We confirmed yesterday all parents signed off on allowing their pictures to go to social media. Future farmers and worm farmers!
@@MemesWorms Meme I live in Florida and for the most part I have the opposite problem. 😂 I have a wooded property and wondered if a tub like you use, with 1/2 in holes drilled in it, screen on top of that, if it’s too hot for worms in the summer here. I’m in west coast Central Florida (Weeki Wachee) area.
