To me this game is at best when playing on the highest difficulty and not expecting to get first place every time. Just playing for the sheer fun and challenge. This is why I mostly play arcade mode.
yeah, it would be a slog to play through the extremely long career on higher difficulties fighting for your life sweating your balls off in every event. arcade is where it's at.
Even Nightmare AI can screw up in some really spectacular ways. It was hard to not ruin my race from laughing when this happened ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SIgHnC2QYLQ.html Absolutely no chill...
You make the nightmare AI look like a bunch of amateurs. Simply outstanding. I tried playing around a bit with the pitch and roll helpers, as well as tuning brake power when I slam the left trigger as I do which helped a lot for my self-confidence, but still the new Redout difficulty manages to steal the podium.
I love how the devs actively went out of their way to put things in place to stop players from skipping sections of the tracks, and we all still figured out a way to skip sections of the track
It's cool seeing you fight for the lead. All your redout 1 videos was mostly you way out in the lead. Seeing some of your techniques and trying to emulate them has helped me a lot with my own progression. Thanks for the upload!
@@qasderfful especially since they seem to fit certain ships and modes differently. one alternate path might have a quicker lap time, but the other one might be better for the speed mode with longer, easier straights
This is why I wanted redout, after spending yeears for a game like XG3 and the old podracing game. It always felt to me as if quake and unreal tournament met a driving game.
You remember that race in the Spy Kids 3D Movie? That race track in the movie is nothing compared to this. It's like a childhood dream coming back to life.
Good to see you're still doing videos on this game series. You got me into the first Redout with your skills and I saw you on the leaderboards I believe. Great stuff.
Mars Memorial manages a bit with... I believe Zardonic's Takeover? Though the other Mars tracks still make me miss Nearby Stars. Tartarus mines simply impressed me, the first few times I had blocked everything else in the background just so I could focus on the music and what was ahead of me.
@@cdgonepotatoes4219 So do you guys turn down ingame sounds a bit to have that music stand out more? First I thought the soundtrack is kinda meh, but then I realised that devs probably kept it a bit down on volume relative to others sounds to make sound effects easier to hear… EDIT: Or maybe music gets more dominant at higher speeds? I didn’t progress that far with upgrades yet.
@@Rosaslav Music is dynamic, it gets muted only if you are grinding, in mid-air or you crashed. If you want to hear it better just tone down everything but master and song volume to something lower to 100 like 80, that's it.
@@photonjones5908 haha nah tbf i was being unnecessarily harsh, i did like it well enough. EP1 Racer just has a very strong nostalgic connection for me. i wouldnt mind replaying RR tbh, easier said than done though without emulation
ngl part of why I'm watching your runs is to to learn some hidden shortcuts like in 1:29 which I absolutely had no idea till now but the main reason is still your flawless ludicrous speed racing
Wooh look at Songg just crashing his ship in the wall on your right! 5:07 He wanted that first place real bad heh ^^ this happens to me all the time lol
Is it just me, or does the soundtrack sounds like it changes to how the player performs or when the section, speed and stuff changes? Almost like it is a dynamic soundtrack or something. I'm not hating it. It's just awesome and adds so much to the experience.
usually changes based on how you perform during a race, sometimes when you restart a race multiple times, the music goes silently from the start unless you pull off clean stunts and such then the music boosts back up again
Dude Redout 2 looks incredible, mechanically it definitely looks superior to the first, and seems like a better game. But the thing I was MOST excited for, was the soundtrack, and I'm not gonna lie... It all sounds like the most generic club dance bassline possible, apart from the occasional cultural instruments mixed in. Whereas Redout 1's soundtrack had PROGRESSION, it didn't stay the same. You had those moments of calm, right before a drop into a sick electric guitar solo. Each expansion of tracks had their own theme that set them apart, like Neptune's literally sounded like an epic bossfight. Mars' had a vaguely Arabian feel but with the aforementioned sick guitar solos. Europa had the subtle tinging sound you'd associate with an ice level. But Redout 2? Track 1: THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP, almost no variation or progression. Track 2: THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP, almost no variation or progression. Track 3: THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP, almost no variation or progression. Hell, I think some of it was already preexisting psytrance wasn't it? Am I the only one who thinks this, or am I just crazy?
@@Joltout Fair point to anyone who likes it more, but as someone who has been into Psytrance since the early 2010's, the only tracks that ever stood out to me were ones that actually had variation and progression. The exact same boring bassline for 5 minutes straight does not a quality track make. I was honestly rather surprised to not see either Aram Shahbazians or Nils Iver Holtar, considering how synonymous their names were with Redout, and Aram was even responsible for 34BigThings' other game's entire soundtrack.
Best I can describe as to why I like the repetitive bassline, is that it pumps me up and fuels the feeling of speed to me. RO1s songs were good, but they felt like sections of them were ill suited to the racing imo, and if they repeated often enough, would kinda bore me to tears mid race. As for other peoples takes tho, I can't say. But I do enjoy the fun that bass brings.
While I do have my own issues with this soundtrack, I will say that it definitely helps with the whole "flow state" side of things. It's really easy for me to get lost in the gameplay in this game.
I've wanted to ask for some time, is it possible to make your regen sound lower and music louder, like it was in your Redout 1 vids, or do you prefer it that way here?
Man, I see that nightmare AI is nothing to sneeze at! Have you stayed true to keyboard or are you rocking controller now? I definitely prefer keyboard as the number of buttons seems too much on a controller for me, even though controller seemed more I guess “native” to me, when I tried it. Also best feature of Redout 2? That perfect landing mechanic, it is so satisfying to glide to that smooth smooth landing only to get that sweet boost:)
@@Joltout I use an 8bitdo Pro 2. It's basically a mix between SNES, PS and Xbox controller and has 2 additional shoulder buttons on the underside which you can customize with the 8bitdo software. I assigned boost and special item to those in Redout 1, so I never had to take my fingers off the sticks. It's almost like cheating haha. Windows recognizes it as an Xbox 360 controller as well and it only costs around 40€. Best one I ever had!
@@NinjaContravaniaManX the third set of shoulder buttons, or alternatively what I believe are called paddles, do sound like a better choice for adjusting your roll mid-air than the d-pad or giving the job entirely to the autopilot.
Quick question. I have the impression that, the more powerful your ship, the less useful the overboost becomes, giving you diminishing returns. I never manage to use it completely because either my hull cannot take it, or because I am so fast the track doesn't allow it. What's your opinion on that?
@@Joltout oh so that's why. Thank you for the insight. Sorry I didn't explain properly, I 100% agree normal boosting is The Way™, I was talking about the turbo+normal boost combo. Nice to hear they are working on it.
I think they just do their own thing and I'm just in the way lol But I love some intense chaos in a race, so I deliberately build my ships to stay in the pack as much as I can when it comes to racing against AI lol
