I want to use the large amount of thread I have, so I really appreciate that you showed us how to use our thread instead of buying sashiko thread ; however, I am finding it difficult to twist the thread. My mind is slow, and even when I slowed this video, I could not see how you twisted the thread. Could you help me?
Very good instructions. I loved the tip for how to get your thread right. What a surprise when you said 6 strands together. This way I can make a choice from many colours of thin thread rather than buy thick speciality thread. I have subscribed, thank you.
Thank you for sharing your Sashiko tutorial. You are an excellent teacher and have a lovely way of explaining the concepts and techniques clearly. I did Sashiko years ago and I am getting back into it now, so your channel is perfect. I just subscribed!!! I love the waves pattern and how you drew it using a compass, so I will add that to my projects. Thank you 😊💝
I just found you. I now realize I've seen this before but didn't realize what I was seeing. I mostly do knitting and crochet and some croosstitch and embroidery every now and then. I might try this since I always seem to do a good job with even new needlework techniques. Thanks for good instructions!!
Wow! This is my first introduction to sashiko I am looking forward to giving it a try. I just bought my first beginner’s kit and can’t wait for it to arrive in the mail.
Thank you for your lovely video! I have been looking for good instruction for this sewing technique and I'm happy to have found your channel! I especially liked seeing your palm thimble. I didn't realize how much it would help in the sewing. You gave so many good tips for the sewing in just this one video. I am looking forward to seeing more ! Thank you again for the great presentation! New subscriber!
This video was great. Very informative. I have watched several embroidery videos and I picked up so much more useful information from busy your one video thus far. The combination of verbal explanation followed by the video clip is so helpful
Hi Nandi, thanks for your comment. You want to leave a little extra thread, so that your fabric doesn't get stuck together when you finish your project.
I’m just curious about being able to wash some items done in Sashiko. For instance, I’ve seen placemats and coasters done with beautiful Sashiko designs and my question is, because these items will eventually need to be washed, will the yarn shrink?
Hi Maureen, sashiko threads are made of 100% cotton, so there is a possibility that some might shrink slightly. It's important to leave a little extra thread at the turning points to prevent the fabric from bunching up. :)
Your hint to use a compass is great! I tried tracing designs with a light box and had such weird results! I'm sure that method works much better and I can't wait to try it! 😀
I just saw a post in one of my local pages about this sewing, I couldn't afford the class and came searching so thank you for your videos... I am adding your videos to my list of videos to learn from...
Have you tried cotton Mouline thread as a substitude for sashiko thread? Its already woven in 6. It is a bit shiny though, needs a little roughing around. I would rather buy sashiko thread but it is so expensive where i live :)
You can try different thread that you have, although sashiko thread is designed to be durable, breathable, and water-absorbent. It also blends into the fabric quite well. Choose based on your project needs! 🧵
Hello, this is my first contact with this art, what's the meaning of sashikonami? Those patterns evoke me peace and harmony, do they have a meaning? I suppose as the Mexican embroidery does. Greetings 💜
Wow! You explain everything so clearly, makes me want to try and learn this Art. You wouldn't know how to do Hardanger too would you? Because I have been wanting to learn that craft too and I think you would make the most comprehensive videos to be able to learn from you. THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with us.
Hi, you can use any thread you want. :) However, sashiko thread is special because it's 100% cotton, durable, water absorbent, and blends beautifully into cotton fabric. These qualities make it perfect for visible mending on cotton garments.
Your videos are amazing. I am trying to learn this technique to keep some old clothes going. I can only hand sew, and not much above fixing a loose button or dropped hem. This is really very helpful. You create great confidence.
Hello from a new subscriber who is loving watching your videos. I’m a slow stitcher and shared videos of my slow stitch but have not studied sashiko stitching much so I’m really loving your videos. You voice is so delightful to listen to as well. Cheers, Christine from create and craft with Christine 🤗
Thank you so much I’m very new to Sashiko and I think I’m going to love it. I just don’t know what to do with the thread. Do I pull just a single thread from the skeins or do I stitch with the whole thickness of the skein? I hope you see this and will kindly answer my question. Thank you again and your voice is so gentle and incredibly soothing. 🥰
Hi Wendy. You want to use the whole thread without breaking it. Feel free to check out my videos “Basics of sashiko 1” and “how to prepare your sashiko thread”, you’ll get a more detailed answer. Good luck!
Grazie!
Ciao Maria, I'm using cotton thread and recycled fabric, this video has a lot of details of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FrLxKTS-c18.html You can also check out this one for how I use the stitched pieces: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IlbrBEtDmZw.html I wish you good luck with your future projects. Grazie! :)
Hi Betty, the length of the thread I make is 24 inches, which works perfectly for me. And so far I've been using non-stretchable cotton fabrics recycled from old clothes.
Dear Xiaoxiao, Thank you so much for your nice videos and tutorials. I'd like to know how to make a small sashiko rounded decoration I saw that it's attached to the end of a string, as a decoration for bags and other diy sewing articles. I saw them attached to the handles of some bags, as if it was a keyring but made of cloth. I don't know the name of this lovely "charm"-like decoration. Can you please make a tutorial to make some of them?
Thanks! It seems I can't find a mark on these pens. If you search for "heat erasable pens" you should be able to find a bunch. The ones I'm using I found the lines are a bit too thick, I want to try something else when I finish these. Good luck. :)
I like your videos so so much. I tried my first sashiko piece and I love doing this so much. Thank you for your videos, they are beautiful and inspiring ❤ I was wondering if you have a video for repairing holes with sashiko?
Thanks! Feel free to check out this playlist for visible mending, I'm also planning on making a more detailed video on it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xrMyypp04TM.html
