Born in Basingstoke in 1956, went to Fairfields and Brookvale schools, lived on Worting Rd, Penrith Rd and Shooters Way. What a lovely town it was back in the 60s. So many childhood memories.

That triggered a flood of memories - was at Brookers from 1962-68. The outside toilets, sloping playgrounds, football and rounders on the playing field ....

I went to college at Brookvale in the 90's, the best time of my life there.

Hi there, I was born in Basingstoke in 1972, I was born in the Shrubbery, I lived in Buckskin until my dad left when I was 4, we moved to Brookvale, I went to Brookvale school, we lived in Alexander Rd, we then moved to Rayleigh Rd, and my step-nan lived in Lower Brook street, about 3 or 4 doors away from the school, I use to go there after school, and my Nan would make me beans on toast, and we would watch Blockbusters. I still live in Basingstoke and have never moved away, thank you for the awesome video, the old Basingstoke is much better than the new one. Xx

I remember you from Brookvale school! I walked though that way recently, and it brought back a lot of good memories. Nice to see not too much has changed there.

Oh wow, that’s great, yes Brookvale hasn’t changed that much, thankfully, I think the only difference now, is where the garages used to be at the end of Lower Brook Street, there is a housing estate, opposite the back of the college. I think you went to a different senior school from me, I went to Harriet Costello school after Brookvale.

@@catherineferguson7388 I was one of the few who went on to Cranbourne. Did you keep in contact with Wendy, Mel, or anyone else from Brookvale?

Good show, Chris. My mother was born on Lower Brook Street in 1915. The place still stands.

What a lovely town it could have remained had it not been so close to London and committed architectural suicide. Well done town 'planners' and I used that term very loosely.

Was thinking the same thing myself. I was born at The Shrubbery in Basingstoke in1963 and briefly remember many of the older parts of the town before it slid into demolition mode and was destroyed by the massive development.
