Adolph "Dolph" Schayes (May 19, 1928 - December 10, 2015) was an American professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball Association (NBA). A top scorer and rebounder, he was a 12-time NBA All-Star and a 12-time All-NBA selection. Schayes won an NBA championship with the Syracuse Nationals in 1955. He was named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History and inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Schayes played his entire career with the Nationals and their successor, the Philadelphia 76ers, from 1948 to 1964. In his 16-year career, he led his team into the playoffs 15 times. Towards the end of his playing career, he became a player-coach with Philadelphia. After retiring from playing, he transitioned into a pure coaching role with the 76ers, earning NBA Coach of the Year honors in 1966. He briefly coached with the Buffalo Braves.

Dolph Schayes defines humility, intelligence, athletic ability and accomplishment. Watching and listening to this fantastic RU-vid piece you get to see simply what a great person is. I didn't realize he played against Russell and so many great 60`s players. There is so much I learned form this wonderful video. Thanks!! Thanks!! Thanks!!

@@davanmani556 I do not remember seeing him play but I think I did. Incredible how the game evolved. Really how the players evolved. Bigger, faster, stronger each year. Wonderful to watch.

the thing that strikes me about guys like pettit and schayes is how fluid they were for their size. Even stretch bigs today (guys like Sabonis and Jokic) dont move like they did.

Agreed. It took me awhile to figure out who Bob pettit was but I was blown away by him when I first saw him. He's on the level just under wilt

I started watching NBA games and alot of them in 1969... but I missed his career.. .. in 2006 red auerbach picked him on his all-time greatest player list

Bob Davies with a nice fancy running jumper @9:48 even though it didn't go in lol, he was trying to bank that in.. never saw that footage before of him. He did a bunch of running shots like Schayes did. These types of shots were popular with players who started in the mid to late 40's. Also @19:09 Joe Fulks play I've never seen before either, he does his signature shot but this time as a running driving play sorta like a running hook! I've only ever seen him do that shot as a turn around jumper.
