"SPOTLIGHT" - NATIVE AMERICAN ARTISTRY - BASKETMAKER - Seneca artist Penelope Minner creates beautiful baskets, keeping in touch with her Native American heritage. This is a segment in the Native American Artistry series, produced by Paul Larson, and presented as a "Spotlight" segment on Mountain Lake PBS programs. The Native American Artistry pieces are produced by Mountain Lake PBS in cooperation with the New York State Historical Association's Fenimore Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York. This project is also a partnership with the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. "Spotlight" is made possible, in part, by the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, dedicated to improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondack Park. www.pearsallfoundation.org

Thanks for this video. I would love to see more in depth. I've been trying to learn this skill for a couple years and have made 3 adirondack , a couple grocery bag size and some misc. baskets so far. What's been the hardest is the learning curve. The lovely lady said it right. Making the basket is the easy part lol. I've watched every youtube video and bought a couple books but am still learning. MORE please and thank you.

All creations are gestures to the spirits that follow , help bless them who didn't live it and they can help you 🧩 these creations the spirits follow were only given to family members because the spirits were family , empty cast is what's given in the video , gift's are grown with , funny these kids don't grow

The basket-skill helped them, the people, to survive in an otherwise hostile environment. Just saying.
