Bass Cover Marcus Miller - Papa was a rolling stone - Fender EMG Pickups 

I tried the Dunlop Marcus Miller Signature Strings for the first time and like them - They have a slightly looser feel which is nice for all the phrasing stuff especially the bendings, which Marcus does a lot. But for sure the Hi-Beams would sound great too!

Yes, EMG Pickups with Potis and solderless connections - I thought of doing it all by myself but in the end i had to go to a luthier cause the body-cavity-holes from the electronic cavity to the pickups were too narrow for the solderless endpins of the cables.

@@RobertSchulenburg I see.. :) I am thinking of building an 8 string bass and I'd like to use these J pickups. They sound totally amazing in your video! It's the best sound demo of the J pickups on the net!

Thx Trevor, yes for now i do think the same, that with this bass and emg's i can get very close even though Marcus himself never played EMGs to my knowledge?!

@@RobertSchulenburg Hi Robert, he uses a Bartolini TCT preamp with the standard 70’s jazz pickups. 😉👍🏾💯

@@trevorblair5552 Yeah, heard of it - I do use another Outboard Preamp to boost the lows and highs a bit but have to give the TCT a try!

Stock PUs are great, i just wanted to checkout the EMG ones, they are just different. More Output and maybe a bit more of a compressed like sound, which i dig for slapping.

@@RobertSchulenburg I recently bought a fender AVRI 75 like yours and since I’m a big fan of MM and in general 70’s fender jb slap tone, I’m always trying to get a closer slap tone to his. So I decided to upgrade the PU and maybe the preamp as well or maybe using an outboard preamp! Now I’m in searching mode and trying to find out which PU helps me the best get that tone. so far I narrowed the list down to these three: -Bartolini b-axis -Bartolini 9CBJD 3 -EMG JVX Have you tried any of these?

No, but i have an outboard preamp that boosts the lowend around 40hz - And i use compression for slapping (Diamond Bass Compressor) - But any compressor will have a setting which is good for slapping.
