In-laws lake is stuffed with 8-10" bluegills. I have not gotten bored yet. Actually had a sore wrist after catching and releasing over 80 one morning (after keeping a few meals worth in prior days)

My neighbors built a pond from scratch and put young largemouth and bluegill in and the bluegill out grew the bass so fast they couldn't compete for food and the bluegill wreaked havoc on the bass beds. Now, very few bass and HUGE bluegill.

Having stocked a few ponds, you will need the bass, to have great bluegill fishing! Do yourself a favor and put in some shiners/minnows the first year. Also dump in 1/2 the number of crappies as your bluegill, channel cats will help keep things in check also.

I really found it interesting that y’all were talking about what Clay Matthews wanted to stock in his pond and the fact that y’all really didn’t know about other subspecies of the largemouth bass. I actually have a video explaining the largemouth bass and subspecies and I’m about to put one about smallmouth. Let Matthews know if he really wants to stock largemouth bass I recommend doing the hybrid F1 largemouth bass. If he wants to put Crappie I recommend the Magnolia Crappie which is a hybrid. They will not reproduce so they will not take over the pond, but they get to large sizes. I agree you can never go wrong with bluegills which I also agree is the hardest pond for pond hardest fighting fish. A interesting fact is bluegill get bigger than what people think the world record was 4 lbs 12 ounce almost 5 pounds and was caught in Alabama.

Second only to Brett Favre Clay Mathews is my all time favorite Packer. More than just a Packers fan. I was ecstatic to see a little more into clays life. That being said he needs to go on a goose hunt with cal. The Canada Goose is the best and most underrated meat of all the wild game. And there is no species of waterfowl to hunt quite like the Canada Goose. Great episode!

You guys need to have a pond management professional on to explain some this stuff you talked about at the end. I work for Aquatic Control if you’re interested, but there are plenty of others out there. Putting only bluegill in a pond would be a disaster ha.

The "mitten thing" involving Michigan to me has always been hilarious as a Wisconsinite. Not only does Wisconsin actually look like a mitten more than MI does, MI only kinda looks like one if you pretend half the state doesn't exist. For a pond gills and bass is what ya want. Catfish can be a mistake because they eat anything and they dominate and crowd out or kill everything else.

Where them duckies at... Where them duckies I've been looking for a while. Probably in the sky, how high, probably a mile. Probably chillin' some willows or some cattails. Probably munchin' on a guppy or flattail(?). My favorite duck if you had to ask then I'd have to say a ruddy. That little blue belly and ??? make him feel like my buddy. But don't hunt them buddies, they just too cute. If I see a coot then I just won't shoot. There's certain ducks that I like to view and certain ducks where I go 'pew pew'. What kind of duckies do you hunt? Mostly dabblers. I dabble with the divers, but I really like the mallards. The redheads and the pintails and the widgeons and the teals. If you cook a canvasback it's gonna make a tasty meal. Add potatoes, with some gravy, brusselsprouts and my plate's good. The answer is merganser if the question what will taste good. Foie gras, that's some freaky stuff. I don't like the way them French people treat them ducks. They put 'em in a cage and force feed them ducks. Might as well tie 'em up and just beat them ducks. Free them ducks. I'm speakin' up. Save them wetlands, creeks, and stuff. They dry'n up, ain't deep enough. Them ducks they need charity from us. Abide by the regulations. I do all that for conservation. You break the rules, no conversation. You shot three times, that's a violation. I fly and be on your ass, stomp a beat on your ass, I might just preen on your ass. Stop and beat on your ass. Set a limit of seven ducks in the bag. One pintail, two redheads, two canvasbacks. If you huntin' for mallards, two can be hens, two ??? canadians. It varies by flyway. Don't shoot from the highway. Steel shot is the right way. Pumping(?) off with my 12 gauge. What you do with them duckies? Probably smoke em. I smoke 'em with my shotty, then I smoke 'em with my smoker. I put 'em in a brine. Yea I use a salt that's kosher. Some garlic and brown sugar. Now I got a tasty potion. What kind of wood do you use? Maple wood. How them duckies' tastin? Boy, they tastin' good. I eat 'em up and then I grab my gun, hop in the truck and then I'm about to hunt. Put on my waders and then ??? These duckies are smart, these duckies are ??? Last week I made a duck-stuffed mushroom. Mixed it with some cream cheese. I had like a mallard, a teal, a goldeneye, and a bufflehead up in the there. Put some sage in it, some breadcrumbs, stuffed it in a mushroom. Baked it in the oven. Then I had some leftover.

Cmon Steve a pond full of just bluegills is like a cheese pizza. Put some more toppings on there, it’ll spice up your life.

NO Bluegill in a pond. They will take over...and ruin it for the other fish. Also no Catfish, they muddy the water. Large mouth bass would be great!

I subbed because I enjoyed the videos of the hunt and even though they walk away without any game, the perspectives and the stories that were told were great. Any chance of going back to the model? Even getting together with scientists and explaining habits and why thinning the game is important were really cool. Not a fan of the talk show.
