My God ... In those years I was lucky that a friend of a friend recorded on a tape the incredible "Kings of sleep" and I will never forget the tremendous impression he had on me. Over the years I have been lucky to see Stuart Hamm play live. I can only say thank you.

I remember seeing Stu on the GIT/MIT video of him playing with Steve Vai and Chris Frazier in '85 I think and was blown away by just how great he was and still is. His arrangement and version of Dr Gradus is genius.

I love Stu's playing, techniques, and grooves. If Donald 'Duck' Dunn had lived longer, he would be pleased to see how much Bass techniques have evolved. I mention Mr Dunn because he had a great sensibility about teamwork. Stu uses his techniques very unsefishly and adds to the power of an ensemble and is so fun to watch!

First time when I heard about Stuart was mid '90s. He not by accident played with Satriani and Vai. His slap and his powerfingers are tremendous. !..!

He said “this is from the new album” which was Kings Of Sleep released in 89 so this is either 89 or 90. The next album was The Urge released in 91.

Moonlight Sonata.

Stu introduces it as "Mona" , but you can find it on his later albums as "Te Extrano" . The "classic theme" part of your question is harder to address... the bass theme bears a resemblance to "Habanera" , but I'm not sure what other parts you might be asking about?

A little after 3 minutes in he does a classic video game theme....can't for the life of me think of what it is.... He also does a brief Star Trek at around 23 minutes before going into a semi-mario theme....I wonder when this was recorded...

The problem with Stu hamm is he plays the bass as other musicians think the bass guitar should sound. There's not much imagination.
@soopahsoopah
@soopahsoopah Год назад
say what now?
@tulpa1940
@tulpa1940 Год назад
@@soopahsoopah he's a musician who plays bass, not a technically capable bassist, so his solos are boring. That's why those guitarists like him tho, he plays minimally.

In the early 90s I went to a stu hamm bass clinic at the bass centre in Wapping London. He was, and is, a really nice guy. His techniques at the time with the slap and tap were amazing at the time and I think many solo bass players were influenced by him and took it to another level. Today's star bass players have perhaps more groove and can play amazing tapped vocal melodies over a fundamental tapped bass line. I think stu has given more tools to modern solo bassists than perhaps is credited.... But I agree in a band situation with mad guitarists his lines in songs tunes feel underwhelming, but really that was probably the point.
