Too many people don't know that Bass Reeves was one of the greatest lawmen ever. Hes right up there with Wyatt Earp and the boys if not the best do your research. Its criminal he isn't as well know as Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson because of the shade of his skin because he was every bit if not better a lawman

Here is some irony. In 1980's "Wildest West Show," Slade Foxworth recruits Belle Starr to be in a new Purple Sagebrush Gang. The Lone Ranger infiltrates Slade's gang disguised as The Sharpshooter. (In Reality, Bass Reeves arrested Belle Starr and disguised himself)

I just watched " Hell on the border " and though it was enjoyable and even provided a few quite humorous scenes it is by no means even remotely historically accurate. The inclusion of Jesse and Frank James with Belle Starre { again pointlessly portrayed by a young good looking actress ] was a scene that really degraded the entire movie. Over all its a fun movie just dont rely on it for anything historical beyond his name.

I want to see this movie. I would also like to see more movies of this nature. I hope I can relate my reasons here. I came to a place in my life, I could never imagine. I found myself in love and married to the most loving woman I ever met. I am white, my wife is black. Life is good. We have some fantastic grand kids of which I am very close to my Grandson(we lost his father) I more Dad then Grampa . We love going to the movies to watch westerns. Took him to see the last Magnificent Seven, and learned something. When I was a child I had my heros. My Davy Crockett, Kit Carson, Wyatt Earp and so on and on. I looked at my Grandson watching every move Denzil Washington made. I saw something I think is very important I had my heros, they looked like me. Where are the heros that look like my Grandson. He needs them. Heros are stars that help us navigate through life. They are important. He needs there stories to help him know what he can do. I am a student of Western History. I know these heros are there. I've read about them. I can name names, Jim Beckworth, Nate Love , Will Picket , the ninth and tenth Cavalry. This is were and when pride is born in a man. I want these for my Grandson and a lot of other young men just like him

@@marlonladd my thanks to you. Being a parent and a role model is very hard at times and as important as it is for youths to have these heros, it's important that the parents know who they are. Case in point. Ironically my favorite heros was The Lone Ranger. And that was alright by my folks. He had a code, a good code for children . Parents knew it was a good influence. On the other hand Ma didn't approve of Superman. Treaded to close to godly powers nope. I've lived already a long life, a good life and I would like to think that my heros helped get me here. As I said, my Grandson and other young men like him need them. Also,my Grandson's number one hero is me, because I know the heros he needs, and I have shown them to him. But I am one, this needs the efforts of those who can bring these stories to life.

Impressive quality of editing in this. That's what gives this short its feature film quality. Plus I'm glad to see that one of history's greatest people is finally getting some love. Bass Reeves was a legend. Even if you base your of him solely off of what can be verified through documents, his life reads like an old western. And he was the consummate Western hero that always saved the day, never got shot, and always brought his man in alive. Almost always. Of his over 3000 arrests, he had to kill 14 of them. Most people knew better than to try him. Some even turned themselves in when they heard Bass Reeves was hunting them. Considering the lawlessness of Oklahoma in the early 1800s, that makes Bass Reeves the toughest SOB of that century for sure.

To my mind, Bass Reeves was the best along with Bill Tilghman. Both are men I greatly admire. They were both very honorable honest men who only worked for the law, not both sides of the road like some other well known "law men".

@@billsmlth5381 You are exposing Grand Canyon depths of ignorance. None of this is made up, it is a matter of record. Judge Isaac Parker ran a tight ship and kept good records as did the courts, the prisons, and other offices where writs were issued and wages paid. Now, Bass Reeves wasn't as pretty as the actor that played his part, so I guess you could doubt the historical accuracy of that part.

The problem with you statement Derek, is that he WAS mention in books in 1901, 1920, 1968 and several in the latter 20th Century. You just weren't reading the right books to come across him. No one speculated in a published book that Bass Reeves was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger until 2009 and then the author didn't even provide a shred of evidence. 😲

Bass Reeves was born in Arkansas, and work out of Fort Smith Arkansas under Judge Parker, the same judge as in the TRUE GRIT movies! to now attempt to make him a product of Oklahoma is misleading

Well met indeed. Both Bass Reeves films were epic! I even watched the Jones Apocalyptic series, had me dying with the spar in Ep. 1 and the Michael Jackson battle later on; great cast and acting lol. This script I am working on now is called Harlemites: about a Black Professor who buy's Harlem from a corrupt Governor in exchange for his state debt payoff; then later the Professor turns Harlem it into a Micronation for Black and urban refugees.
