Home Free's gorgeous new cover of Dire Strait's "Brothers In Arms," with a stunningly pure arrangement from Club For Five. The original song has been an integral part of my musical experience from a very young age, so I'm quite pleased to see that Home Free did the original justice with their cover ❤

Just like you, in england i used to listen to dire straits version of this on the way to soccer with my dad. Some of my earliest memories are of this song, and sultans of swing but most importantly local hero as im a Newcastle fan. they did something i didn’t think anyone could do with it, and add another level of emotion. Just purely beautiful. I’m lost for words and so emotional right now! Brings back memories

At a Bash, Tim told me he called up Club for Five to talk about their arrangement and they just gave it to him. He said he tweaked it some. This is one of the things I love about most Acappella groups. They are so generous about sharing. Whether it's arrangements or learning new techniques (as Tim did with several bass singers).

That's one of my biggest reasons why I love Acapella music, besides the incredible voices. They all seem like such a tight knit group. They are supportive of each other. Not really trying to 1up each other.

I wish more groups did this, honestly. Sure, it might not be the most creative thing ever, but I don't always want immense creativity. Sometimes I think it's really cool just to hear different voices perform pieces I already know and love.

Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

This song also holds special meaning to me. My father passed away 37 years ago when I was 15. Dire Sraits was his all time favourite band and we played this song at his funeral. i watched another reaction to this video and was NOT going to listen to any others because of the way the other reaction affected me. I was a blubbering mess. I'm so glad I decided to watch your reaction and analysis. I totally agree with you that it would have had more impact if they didn't use reverb when they said "But we have just one world". That would have sounded way better. When you closed your eyes at the beginning and were feeling the music wash over you, I started to cry because I knew you would react to this song respectfully and beautifully. And you did. I love watching your reactions.

I've been thinking about this a lot since it came out and then your review helped me coalesce some thoughts. Knopfler's guitar is so iconic to this song that I didn't recognize the opening bars until Tim started singing. The soft, almost mumbled, lyrics of the original are a prayer by a weary warrior. Home Free makes the prayer a hymn.

The lighting (bright from the windows behind, ghostly/translucent when Chance & Tim are standing in front of the windows) adds a lot to the etherial feel. At that Ab point you noted, it sounds as if there is a giant cathedral organ effect. Wow! And great explanation, Peter. Thank you.

Great reaction! I agree that Home Free did this justice and did it the right way. There's power in the breathy, almost vulnerable tone in the verses. The background harmonies were superb. They have a good sense of which songs they can goof around and play with, and which ones to take special care of. And once again Home Free has sent out an important message that many people didn't know they needed. The way Home Free shows their patriotism, and approaches sensitive social issues is to be commended. They have again opened up a conversation across the globe.

I love Tim's lower voice and the way it is so smooth, rich and clean. Not sure where this was shot, but a lot of the cemetery shots look a lot like the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Galt, CA. This place holds a lot of meaning and emotions for me as my grandfather, who was a Navy man commissioned on the battleship USS Missouri {BB-63} during WW II which was known as the surrender site of the Empire of Japan, is buried in this cemetery. This song is very haunting for me.

I've heard all three versions of this song that you mentioned. Dire Strait, Club for Five and now Home Free. They are all beautiful. However, Home Free's version affected me the most. Bass adds so much to this song that you don't get in the Original Dire Strait version I grew up with. I love Tuukka's voice and people should definitely check him and C45 out, but in this song he is very gravelly, almost breaking? Tim's smooth tones through most of the verses he sings just adds so much emotion. And not enough can be said about the supporting cast and the difference between just singing a song and feeling the song you're singing. Great song, great cover of it, and a great reaction.

Another song where Tim Foust sings the opening (solo for the first verse) is an older Home Free called "What We Ain't Got". There's a sort of follow-up narrative about that song on a live video called "Home Free Oxygen". Tim Foust also does some beautiful duets with Peter Hollens - their "Green Sleeves" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (both on Peter Hollens channel) are gorgeous as are Tim's duets with Chris Rupp (on Chris Rupp's channel).

An interesting song for you take to take a look at, is Home Free's cover of "Elvira". The OG Oak Ridge Boys are featured. There might be some interesting things you could tell us about aging and how that effects the singing voice. Tim and Richard Sterban of the Oaks have a nice back-and-forth on the "oom pappa mow mow". This performance was arranged by Geoff Castellucci of VoicePlay. So, there is definitely a heavy bass influence.

Take a look/listen to some of the other hymns and “almost” hymns they do - How Great Thou Art is the best example I can think of - Adam Rupp is usually singing and not beatboxing in those, just like here. Adam starts the “it is well…” of the second hymn, so you get to hear him sing finally. He is a tenor.

Tim enunciates....i like the clarity....he doesn't sacrifice diction for art..... in high school the low b was the extent of my range......no one else in the choir could get to the "c" ...the director would often have me ad lib the low notes in the 100 voice choir....my lone voice really didn't mar the arrangement but just added some fullness
