I bought a 1979 Rickenbacker 4001 a few years back. The previous owner had it signed by the guys in DFA 1979! Was a super cool bonus! The signature has faded a bit but it’s still very visible!
Inbreds - Any Sense Of Time Another great Canadian duo that sounds nothing like this. Bass, drums and vocals, give em a chance I think you'll be impressed. Sweet epi btw
Dfa played a huge show with alexisonfire and then 2 weeks came back by themselves. They played in front of 6 people and invited me and one other person onto stage with them.
Woo Hoo! I requested this waaaay back! Glad to see it on the channel and glad you like it! The first album is a bit more lo-fi and punk and is great, but I feel that this album is much more full and melodically rich while maintaining the punch of the first one.
These guys are absolutely incredible, but their first album is on an entirely different level. Highly recommended. As for a band with multiple bassists and no guitars, check out Megachurch. They only have a couple releases but they're entertaining as hell.
I'm not sure exactly how it works but he also uses a keyboard that goes through the same rig so sometimes he will switch over to that for the stuff that's harder to play on bass and itll sound the same. Idk if that happens on this song, but that's what I was thinking about when he did those weird slide parts. Also note that the drummer is the singer, lol. Great band!
You should check Shotmaker, they're also Canadian, and heavy on meaty bass riffs. And if you're into bass+drums bands, you should definitely check Lightning Bolt!
Fun fact: I organized the very first Death From Above show in Mississauga, Ontario, well over two decades ago. Keeler (the bass player) is a fcking dooooooooooooouche. Total "rock star," if you know what I mean. And this was BEFORE he was famous!
Check out their live House of Strombo set on RU-vid. The quality of the filming/recording is top notch, and I think these guys sound WAY better live than on their records.
NVR 4EVR by DFA1979 has one of the most agressive, kick-you-in-the-face, ground-shaking bass/guitar tone and drum mix I've ever heard. Holy shit that track has WEIGHT to it.
Another bass/drums combo worth a video is Big Business playing Grounds for Divorce. Ex-Melvins rhythm section. Fuzzed up mental bass and intense drums.
@@M2Mil7er I wouldnt say it's imitation. a different take on the bass/drummer duo. death from above doesn't use as many octave switches as Royal Blood.
Hey dunno if it's mentioned in the vid and I just missed it - DFA tune a step down to DGCF - this song relies on a lot of open string stuff and harmonics so that's pretty crucial to the sound
You've gotta do White is Red by DFA. I heard that live when it debuted and it slaps. A bit slower and more melodic with a fun breakdown. Definitely my favorite from them.
damnit i thought this was a review of Thrice’s Death From Above about drine strikes. that album would be a good one to review! To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere. one of their best imo.
i saw this band in like 2002 and they blew me away, still have the original ep, at that time i had no expectations for opening acts and these guys could have stole the show if they werent opening for alexisonfire. Anyways most of the catalog is good, this is a nice jumping point, i think theres much cooler songs bass wise, well even song wise, crystal ball from this album is one id like to see mark do
Premier Guitar has a great rig rundown of Jesse Keeler's bass rig. He says he doesn't use any distortion pedals, just his amps' distortion. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AFIt0pNPjmY.html
No one will ever ask for this band. They do not have a bass player. Do 400 blows the root of our nature song and talk about how no bass player does or doesn't work.
Whirlwind Heat is another 2 instrument (bass and drums) band, and the lead singer occasionally plays a second bass. I'd say Purple is their best song and far "rougher" than DFA, not nearly as well produced
DFA is one band I think is WAY better live. I don't like the production on their records, but I've watched their live House of Strombo set like once a month for years now.
SPEED DEMON by the Dwarves. Message me for who and why! Many lineups...but Sgt Salt Peter is one of the Most underrated punk rock bass players and songwriters of all time.
Please do backlit by isis next. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-grLJEvC-0oM.htmlsi=DeO1pyowk90UjVvZ Their band name became controversial after they had already broken up, but they have a few wonderful albums under the moniker before parting ways from each other in 2010.
