Dieser alte Bunker steht abseits gelegen der Landstraße L776 von Bassum nach Harpstedt auf der rechten Seite in einem kleinem Waldstück.
Gegen Ende der 30er Jahre des 20. Jahrhunderts sollten im Auftrag der damaligen Reichspost in der Schweinsheide, nahe Groß Hollwedel, elf Funktürme gebaut werden - als Teil einer Längswellenfunkanlage. Die geplante Höhe der Masten war enorm, so sollten sie bis zu 200 Meter hoch werden. Der Durchmesser der gesamten Anlage sollte sich auf 2,5 Kilometer belaufen. Nach Fertigstellung hätten sich mehr als 25 Kilometer Antennenkabel über die Masten gespannt.
Diese Fernmeldeanlagen sollten dem navalen Funkverkehr der deutschen Wehrmacht dienen, hiernach vor allem dem der deutschen U-Boote - und das Weltweit. Wäre die Anlage fertiggestellt worden, hätten die Signale eine Wassertiefe von mehr als 10 Metern überwinden können.
Tatsächlich wurden aber nur vier der elf Türmen angefangen zu bauen. Drei davon sind kaum noch auffindbar, bzw. nur als Grube oder Bodenveränderung vermutbar. Der vierte ist die heute als Bassumer Bunker bezeichnete Ruine.
Somit handelt es sich also entgegen aller Behauptungen nicht um einen Bunker, sondern um den Unterbau eines ehemals geplanten Funkturmes.

This old bunker is located off the L776 road from Bassum to Harpstedt on the right-hand side in a small forest.
Towards the end of the 30s of the 20th century, eleven radio towers were to be built in the Schweinsheide, near Groß Hollwedel, on behalf of the then Reichspost - as part of a long-wave radio system. The planned height of the masts was enormous, so they were to be up to 200 meters high. The diameter of the entire plant was to be 2.5 kilometers.
After completion, more than 25 kilometers of antenna cable would have stretched over the masts.
These telecommunications systems were intended to serve the naval radio traffic of the German Wehrmacht, and then above all that of the German U-boats - and that worldwide. If the system had been completed, the signals would have been able to overcome a water depth of more than 10 meters.
In fact, however, only four of the eleven towers were started to be built.
Three of them can hardly be found, or can only be assumed to be a pit or a change in the ground. The fourth is the ruin known today as Bassumer Bunker.
Thus, contrary to all claims, it is not a bunker, but the substructure of a formerly planned radio tower.
