For safety purposes, add a cut off breakers between your solar panel and your charge controller and between your battery and your inverter. The breaker current for each should be what the max current is for each of those devices.

To avoid the polarity problem, I use only Anderson Powerpoles, which are "genderless". There is no male/female, they can only be plugged in one way. Further, I use red/black on the battery side, just as with all my ham radio gear. On the input (solar panel) side I use green/black. I can still use my regular Powerpole extensions on the solar side, but with the green on the charge controller input I am at least alerted to what is plugged in there.
