This is a 4 part tutorial on Bath Bombs for beginners. In this part, I will be going over various colorants that are used in bath bomb making! It is a little lengthy and I sure hope I got everything, but this is the basics to get you started! I always recommend doing your own research and extensive testing on ANY product that you plan on selling.
All colorant info, suppliers, and certifications can be checked at
www.FDA.gov
There is a “colorant” tab there that is incredibly handy as well as the “Companies Requesting Batch Certifications in the Last Two Years” so you can back check your vendors! Some of my favorite vendors for batch Certifies Lakes, Dyes, and Micas are-
www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com
www.nurturesoap.com
www.brambleberry.com
www.madmicas.com
www.kwikcolors.com
Please like and follow me to get the rest of the tutorials that follow! Part 2 will be Common Bath Bomb ingredients and their Uses.

SO MANY tutorials on bath bombs, either people are just ignorant about so much of this before rushing out to share their "cool bath bomb DIYs" or they are just plain mean. LOL. Anyhow, THANK YOU. Subscribed for how honest AND super helpful you've been

Love love love this video! Super informative! I’ve come back to watch it at least 3x already. Thank you for sharing all of this info with everyone. I wanted to ask about using dyes for other products like whipped soaps and whipped butters. Can you use dyes with those types of products? If so, do you have to still bloom them first or can you add directly to the whipped soap, etc? Or would you suggest using lakes instead since they are oil soluble? I’ve tried looking up this info myself but i couldn’t find anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

I see at close to the beginning you typed that you can't use food coloring...is there a reason? (For personal use bombs, I add all natural vegetable based coloring powders). I don't sell mine, but thought about it...but I don't want to add artificial ingredients.
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 5 лет назад
If they will be for personal use that’s fine, but to sell idea whole other ball game. Some food coloring dyes may be safe to eat but may not fall on the safe to use cosmetic color chart per the fda. Not to mention there are a whole slew of other ingredients in food coloring besides just FD&C dyes. Hope that helped!

If you use dyes can you add to water first n keep in a squirt bottle and then straight into baking soda ?
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 2 года назад
I used to do this but found that you need A LOT to get the saturation of color, which makes the mix super wet. I now heat a few grams of water, add my dye, then mix in with the baking soda. I feel this method is much more efficient

I’m a newbie and so far just doing loads of trials with recipes. Most material I’ve read advises against colours and warns they will stain your tub? Is this true or does the polysorbate stop that? Sorry I’m just reading so much mixed information and I just found you and really love your videos. Thank you
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 3 года назад
Dyes are water soluble so they actually become “part of the water”. Some dyes are very intense and can stain hands of the bath bomb is being handled in the water but as with everything, your own testing is recommended.
@AtomicBalmbathnbody
@AtomicBalmbathnbody 6 лет назад
I may be mistaken. But I'm pretty sure wholesale supplies plus are not natch certified, not in smaller sizescanyways, they don't have their names listed on the fda site as a repacked, or don't have their certification to repack and sell in smaller quantities, they don't have the certification on the packaging when you order either, unless they have changed since I ordered last,...

It's crazy because mica is being recommended to be used everywhere for newer people trying to research DIY bathbombs. Even amazon lists it as a main colorant. I ended up purchasing mica for my project and now I have no clue how i'd ever use it in these.

Rosalinda Lopez FD&C dyes are what you need- food drug and cosmetic. Bath bombs fall under cosmetics per the FDA so any cosmetic safe colorant can be used. Food dyes are fD&C however some colors aren’t safe under cosmetic use, and not to mention there are other ingredients in food coloring that aren’t “safe”. I’d stick with batch certified dye powder. Many of my favorite vendors are listed in the description. If you need to dive further I to FD&C dyes and colorants, check out fda.gov and there’s a whole tab on cosmetic colorants

I have tried using micas because I bought a sample kit before knowing what I was really getting myself in to. My bombs work wonderfully. I have tried different variations on the mica to poly80 ratio. Even followed several recipes online and did weight versus measuring. However I always end up with the color ring around the tub (that comes off easily). It's frustrating to say the least. Any suggestions or advise?

Hi i have my dyes yayyyy. However everytime i make a bath bomb now they go wrong. I bloom the die and think its pretty dry so put the citric in an wow the mixture gets more and more sticky. I dont think its the oil as it didnt do it before so im guessing i didnt leave the bloomed diy long enough? I know it will depend on the amount but going on your 850g mix how long would you leave it. Thank you

My biggest question I can’t seem to find the answer for is where do you place them to let them dry? Do you have a large round tray? Do you place the on an egg carton? Help please? Need more ideas

Honestly, Christmas ornament holders! They go on big time clearance after holidays. Hope this helps!

Can dyes be used in bath melts?
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 4 года назад
kittenjewel101 dyes are water soluble and wouldn’t be the best option for melts since they are mainly oils and butters. I’d try lakes for this

Can you paint designs/art on your bath bombs with the dyes?
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 3 года назад
Jennifer Frazier I prefer mica but yes...? Ish? Dyes are water soluble so they dissolve in water. Water will activate the bombs. I actually have a video on painting bombs 🙌

Southern Skye Beauty I found it! Thanks. I’ll watch some more of your videos. I have so many questions because I’m a newbie to this.

Southern Skye Beauty If I am still using dies is it OK if I put it in rubbing alcohol and spread that into my mixture? Instead of blooming. Please let me know

Can you recommend a brand of natural colorants? I don't have the time or patience to make my own natural colorants with herbs and other florals but I do not want to use Poly80, micas or other dyes. I haven't found a company that sells something natural and ready-made.

Kristin Fusaro that’s not really my wheelhouse so I don’t think I’ll be much help. Sorry!

It looks like you used polysorbate 20 with the mica...the oil you added to the mica didn’t dissolve.
@southernskyebeauty6567
@southernskyebeauty6567 3 года назад
I only use 80. The mica will never dissolve but only incorporate with the poly and oils.

Kim Swanson they can stain your fingers when working with them, but won’t stain your tub when used in bath bombs :)
