This video shows how to change a bathtub spout with a diverter to send water to a shower head. How to replace a bathtub drain assembly: • How to replace a batht...
Plumbers tape needs to go on the direction of the turn. If it tightens clockwise install your tape clockwise. He installed the tape counter clockwise. This will cause the tape to come off on installation and may cause leaks. Putting the tape on the way it tightens makes sure the tape will stay on.
I am an old Lady who just bought a house in Florida.......this video is the best I've seen. You tube videos have helped me so much in this whole endeavor.
Excellent piece. You nicely explained both types of spouts ...The only added piece is if there is an extender on the spout--for example for a hot tub that needs an extender for the spout. Thank You!
Thank you for this tutorial, it inspired and taught me how to change the bathtub spout. What really helped was knowing there's two types. I was literally in and out of home depo. Best regards.
Thank you so much for this video. I will be replacing my bathtub spout today as most of the water started coming out of the spout instead of the shower head. I have the one with the set screw and you've helped me guide to taking my old one off.
Very easy directions. I thank you for not being one of those guys who talks a blue streak about what he's ABOUT to do. Excellent directions. You did say you could soak it first in something (white vinegar?) to remove gunk first? Did you tie a bag of cleaner to end to clean it? Nice you have such clean hands and clean shower as well. VERY excellent. I "almost" feel bold enough to try. Mine leaks like crazy.
+Sally King **** I'm a 73 yo woman thinking about trying this myself. You don't have to turn off the water "supply" do you? I only know where my main water supply thing is.
My son did this without turning the water off. Be careful to keep the old spout steady while turning so you do not tweek the pipe. Make sure you have plumbers tape to cover the pipe ridges. And last be careful not to tighten the new spout too much. My son Just tightened it by hand. It works fine. Keep me posted how it went.
Well, well, well.... Doing a quick repair for a friend at her place and wanted to double check and looky who I find. Had no idea you had your own channel!!! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you so much for posting to RU-vid! We were able to fix the family shower without calling a plumber. (I assume that's who you would call to fix a tub spout.) Thanks again!
I am a single female and cannot afford a plumber. I'm learning how to do a lot of things by myself from RU-vid videos. I started recently having problems with a leaky handle in my bathtub your videos have been a wonderful help. Who needs and expensive plumber.. Not me!!! 🛁🚿🚽🔧
Without doubt while out and about I scouted the route to get spout grout because I'm a devout kraut lout with gout bouts that shouts "Trout snout!" and touts sprout droughts.
Help! I watched the video and it is veru well done. My issue is that the old spout will not unscrew . A handy man friend said it would have to be cut off with a torch. Does this sound reasonable? Another friend said NOT to do that. I need some advice from a professional. Thank so much
At 2:30 CORRECTION: The hole on the underside at the wall is to drain any leak that occurs. Whether the hole also has a set screw is an additional detail, NOT the main reason for the hole.
When the water is shut off and still diverted to the shower part it's still leaking at the bottom. Filling up a 2 gallon bucket every couple of hours. Do I need a new spout or is it something worse?? Thanks Oh, even when I push down on the spout to remove remaining water it won't stop leaking.
Thank you so much!!! I thought I was doing it wrong but I tried it again like you did it cause I did the same thing but it didn't want to budge so I thought I was doing it wrong. But I got it off and getting the new one put on. ^_^ Thanks for the great help. Really. ^_^
Mines the scew on type and it likely has been on for 40 yrs. Plus.. Will it become seized on over time.. I'm scared to try to unscrew it as it might break the copper pipe where it is soldered behind the wall..is this a concern or have or should I just jim dandy it and hope for the best ? There used to be a round donut type plate between the back of the spout and the wall..its called an escutcheon or something.. can you get a new spout with one of these ? Thanks
Is there a type of spray cleaner that i can use to spray into the faucet and release and clean the chemical residue or build up. Mine is all seize up and blocked with residue that i noticed under the faucet? 🤔 ❤ 👍 👁
NEED HELP!! my spout has the opening on the bottom but, no screw or anything it's just copper pipe...does this mean it is threaded pipe and just unscrew counterclockwise?? Thanks for the help!
I'm not going to read all the comments to see if anyone covered this . . . but . . . he didn't put the tape on correctly. You want to wind the tape in the same direction that the spout is going to thread on, (clockwise) he didn't. You want to wrap it at least 3 - 4 times around, he didn't. I betcha it leaks (not that it would do much harm). It looked like it was dripping out of the back of the spout down the tub wall.
I thought i noticed the leaking too -- so you're saying if there is a leak that's where the water would go? I was planning on swapping mine too, although I'm a bit worried that the thing is locked on there with calcium.
the owner of my apartment used the screw on kind but didn't measure the pipe, so the spout does even reach the wall. is this something the super should fix asap or is it simple enough for me just to do it myself.?
If the spout does not reach the wall, the copper pipe is too long. The pipe needs to be shortened and the threaded fitting needs to be soldered in place.
I almost fell asleep watching this video. The guy talks sooooo slow! Took him TWICE as long to explain the same thing I've watched in half the time on other videos.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! The best most informative video! A plumber wanted to charge me $200 to do this! After watching your video I was able to do it myself for free!!
Plumbers charge 200 $ just to show up if you ask me.. 2 most important things to know about plumbing is shit runs downhill and paydays on thursday..lol
