This story bring back memory how I cope losing my both parents when I was 8 years old...I stop talking to people about a year....my grandma has always been patient with me.... Al-Fatihah to both my loving parents and grandma...we will meet again one day...I miss you all so much.
Apart from the batik as main theme, one can only appreciate the terengganu traditional house her grandmother lives in. That's a lot of research went into the production.
We're very happy that you spotted the little details we put in. We tried to be as authentic as possible, we even took a picture of the Kuala Trengganu night sky so that the constellations look right. But creative license sometimes over ruled authenticity 😅
After I saw your comment, I watch this short movie again. When I see the background of her grandmother's house, the first place come to my mind was Seberang Marang...
yup usually if they do malays traditional houses people always used the models of west coast malays ie atap rumbia house...this animatior do their research well
Mantap bro. Detailing 10/10! Keep it up weh!
This is awesome. Love your story line, cinematography, and the music. Wherever you come from, let's preserve our culture and spread the love. Love from Indonesia, this creation really deserve ton of awards
Perumpamaan saling memerlukan lilin & warna dlm batik secara halus; Batik Girl xsedar dia memerlukan Nenek/Mak Bidan-nya Dalam hidup yg dia anggap mengganggu selama dia sedih akibat pemergian ibubapanya
Disney and Japan animations should recognise this and perhaps make a sequel or full film about this masterpiece because these one already reach its own standard. Never get bored from Malaysian's film of family and society theme even it is a typical one but folks need to aware and embrace the one value that got away. Spread love and share goods for society.
The R&D Studio is very lucky that we have done work for both Disney and Japan. We believe Malaysia is unique, we embrace the west and the east punya style of animation and Batik Girl is a project yg we tried to use the storytelling structure of the west and the aesthetic yg kita biasa kaitkan dengan Japan. We hope you enjoyed our short film as much as we did making it!
@@aireliqi2484 Yes, we are the producers of Wizards of Warna Walk, a SEA version of Wizards of Waverly Place. It's currently on Disney Channel. That was another show we could put in a lot of nusantara elements.
hairul nizam or even Malaysian animator could make it by ourselves one day. Malaysian, please stop with the 3D animation, hentikanlah ikut budaya barat, ikut budaya timur. (Japan) I need anime from Malaysia, can you guys imagine Malaysia ada their own anime? Slice of life, action, adventure, romance, comedy, drama, fantasy, supernatural, mystery anime from our country (except yaoi/yuri shit man, I don’t need that ahaha). Dah lah dengan Boboiboi, Upin Ipin, Ejen Ali, (semua tu ikut budaya barat, 3D) I need more 2D animation like this video please!!!!!!!!
This story represents the experience from thousands of orphaned kids in Southeast Asia. She is lucky to have a grandma like that. We are lucky to have you make this animation. Hope you stay healthy so you can make heart-touching stories like this.
Beautiful. I feel somehow this is a great tribute to the great art that's being produced by Terengganu and Kelantan, healing and the deep spiritual philosophy of orang pantai timur, manifested in the batik artwork, which has now being abled to find a new medium, and shared the world over. Maybe orang kata batik lukis tangan dah out of fashion, terlalu mahal, but look at this shortie, what a beautiful sets of colours and forms, never seen before, the world, it seems, is hungry for more of it. Kalau jiwa seni tue, ia takkan dimakan dek zaman. Cuma medium saja yg bertukar. Your studio just proved that. The colours and patterns are so unique, and attributing it to batik, made me, terharu feeling guilty, what have we done to deserve this, where have we been utk membela nasib pengusaha2 batik, yg setiap pieces is a unique abstract art. We may not have Picasso, Monet hanging at our museums (we couldn't care less, much), but we have moving art galleries with these art forms worn, appreciated by those few, and at one time, was all the craze. Who knows, with this shortie, lots can happen to the batik industry, least, the talents can find and share new canvasses in animation studios like yours. All the best
Well said. We look for beauty everywhere but sometimes kita take for granted what is in front of us. We grow up surrounded by local arts/craft that we sometimes forget that it is as, or more beautiful to those that we admire from far away. As we researched into batik we uncovered so many different layers and we tried to use these elements to help make our short film richer. We will continue and try and uncover and present our local arts and culture in our films and projects to the world coz if we don't do it, sapa lagi kan?
Kalau jaman dulu disebutnya ambatik.
The Malay batik history is different since Hang Nadim was ordered by Sultan of Malacca to bring batik cloth from India. Hang Nadim went to India but he disliked the Indian design. He created his own design and brought back his batik creations to Malacca.
You mean like this anime called mononoke, where the stories are told in a japanese theatre sort of way. It's a really good show and maybe could be used as inspiration to animate story like that.
As an Indonesian, I envy to Malaysia that keeps producing their traditional culture into cartoon movies. And yeah, in terms of animation, we love Malaysian's rather than Indonesian cartoons. We can't lie in terms of quality. Respect! Indonesia and Malaysia are brothers forever. Love. Jakarta, 2019년, 11월, 22일.
Salah satu nya kayak Adit & Sopo Jarwo. Semoga lebih banyak lagi deh 😊
The word batik is Javanese in origin. It may either come from the Javanese word amba ('to write') and titik ('dot'), or may derive from a hypothetical Proto-Austronesian root *beCík ('to tattoo'). The word is first recorded in English in the Encyclopædia Britannica of 1880, in which it is spelled battik. It is attested in the Indonesian Archipelago during the Dutch colonial period in various forms: mbatek, mbatik, batek and batik. Batik is a legacy of Indonesian (Javanese) ancestors which still exists today. Batik was also first introduced to the world by President Soeharto, who at that time was wearing batik at the time Batik was mentioned in the 17th century Malay Annals. The legend goes when Laksamana Hang Nadim was ordered by Malacca King, Sultan Mahmud, to sail to India to buy 140 pieces of serasah cloth (batik) with 40 types of flowers depicted on each. Unable to find any that fulfilled the requirements explained to him, he made up his own. On his return unfortunately his ship sank and he only managed to bring four pieces, earning displeasure from the Sultan. There are a lot of batik in the Nusantara. Let's preserve batik, and introduce batik to the world. 🇲🇨🇲🇾
Indeed. So claiming that batik is not originated in Java is a wrong claim. Yes, Malaysian has their own version of it as a result of social mobilization, migration, acculturation and else, but it is derived from what Javanese called "mbatik".
i believe its word yes can claim its origin.. but the arts and option of batik from different countries has their own style/colaboration version batik.. yet this is how we develop the culture.. not to claim its origin.. Rice can found everywhere.. but Rice came from soil .. Earth never claim it..
If Malaysians could produce this kind of 2d animation quality like this, damn I will be at joy ! Imagine the possibilities of making 2d animation out of malaysians action comic !
AKU MOHON DENGAN SANGAT!!! TOLONG DIKEMBANGKAN DAN JANGAN PERNAH MENYERAH.. SOALNYA INI ANIMASI NYENTUH,INDAH, DAN GRAFIKNYA WOW.. SUKA BANGET.. SEMOGA BISA BIKIN MOVIE DAN DIKELUARKAN DI BIOSKOP.. KITA BOLEH!!😍😍😍💜
jakarta gamer... See the pattern of the flower... It defines the Malaysian batik...every batik has its own identity of flower pattern ... I know claiming is the your best expertise... Chill down la.. Kita satu rumpun...even indonesia has its own identity of batik... Every batik has its own uniqueness.
Apa-apapin good job fan sangat best kalau jadikan tatapan anak2
When we started the project we read, saw videos, went to Terengganu for research. Back at the office, we went to an art shop and bought all the materials - kain, wax, dye and started to experiment and to get a feel of how people actually did batik.
I could repeat all the other praises others have given, but lets just respect the fact they put cranes on the buildings in the background. Very realistic city scape.
Half of my family never met my grandma, I remember my grandma. She was the nicest person ever, always making me laugh, making pancakes and always told me stories about Somalia. I'll miss my grandma even if I wasn't at her funeral or her last day of her life. I will always miss my grandma and never find one like her. May Allah put her in heaven. 🙌
It's tougher for shorts, tak boleh submit for nomination. We need to win a prize in one of the major festivals to qualify. Maybe our next short will qualify!
There is no proper word could define the beautiness in this short film. Wow really amazing! Must share this great arts with a lovely storyline. Unpopular opinion: Regardless of diversity and differences, all kinda cultures and art capable to unite people around the world!
Such a Magnificent Job! Story and animation style was beyond my expectations - I loved this piece of art and would like to see more of it. By the way warm greetings from Azerbaijan :)
Read the article written about this short film and i can't help but just in awe. The beautiful animation, the beautiful story. Tears just automatically flows out of me. You guys are doing an amazing job. And i have so much respect as well as hope for the future of animations in Malaysia. Thanks again for this beautiful art.
Bagus sekali sya suka... Salam dari indonesia untuk saudara malaysia... Sya malah bayangin jika batik girl bisa diadaptasi jd game genre platformer dimna kita jd karakter utama mmbantu gadis di kain td dgn cara menggambar berbagai corak utk mmbantu gadis td.. Dtmbah konsep cerita yg bagus... Beeeh mantap...
I know other country will claim about the origin of batik. Malaysian batik has own different motifs. Just like rice vermicelli, originated from China. But other countries make it as ingredient in local dish like bihun sup, bakso, pancit bihon etc...
The animation style is so nostalgic! It really takes me back to the days before 3D animation got popular in malaysia. Everything else is simply beautiful and I just can't stress it enough. The batik world reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, though perhaps in this film it serves a different purpose to the character and story. It reflects perfectly on how we value our families and art. Congratulations on your success!!
This is astounding. The animation style is really on par with the likes of Makoto Shinkai, not because of how detailed the art is but the authenticity to the cultural elements. Im soooo floored omg this needs to be a full-length feature film! This is what our animated film should look like!
Iaitu Malaysia
I don't know why but I cried for the whole entire video because the colors and the story is just so beautiful and it really hits home as a Malaysian myself... Simply beautiful...
This makes me proud as a Malaysian that our art culture is so unique in its very way. This is also a good way to introduce Malaysia to the outside world.💖
Wow Malaysian (also other SEA nations') culture is so underrated. It's common to see American, European, East Asian, etc. references and representation in the global entertainment, but not that of Malaysian. Seriously the culture is so rich, there's a whole other world to explore. Hope to see more of these in the future.
Beautiful. I learned that we cant have rainbows everyday and everywhere. We need dark colours too to make shapes and things clearer. Have always loved batik❤
What a beautiful and touching short animation! So much emotions and feelings in the short 9mins or so. And the batik is amazing! I love the batiks style of Trengganu and I can literary see my very first silk batik piece from that era. Well done team Batik girl! Keep creating and congratulations on all the wins! Well deserved !!!
i wish my art improve in a single night like Batik girl in all seriousness i love the fact that this story has no dialogue but successfully convey a powerful emotional story with a beautiful message of every good times wont last, all the bright must also have dark... but that's okay , that's life, as long you never give up and keep on moving forward, everything will be all right, it's powerful and it's beautiful. especially with the music elevates it into a whole new level, not to mention the amount of research going into making this , i really appreciate every frame of it
Good job..
Wow this is so perfect! The storyline, the music, the animation and more importantly the arts! So mesmerizing and beautifully done. I love it. Totally in love.
Hebat Edited: I wonder how youtube suggested me to Batik Girl last week... After a few days(today), I just scroll down to look who are behind this amazing ideas... ..dan sy ternampak... ...hahaha..nama Mclelun..👍👍👍😄😄 ...patutlah... (selalu tgok step by step mclelun's photoshop painting) 👍👍👍🌿🌿🌿🌿
A Hijabi ! omg you guys ! the moment I saw the mom wearing the Hijab I was shook !! I can't believe you actually showed Hijabies as beautiful normal people ♥♥♥♥♥! and it wasn't like we wear it at home or anything ! what the grandma was wearing in the funeral was different to what she wore at home ! You guys made my day and restored my belief that I can make such movies as an egyptian muslim girl ♥♥! Thank you for your great work and thank you for giving me that positive vibe again ! much love ♥

just started to find any inspirations for my first 2d animation pictures and found your movie first, it's wonderful that 2d animation movies supposed to be this fun but also charming and heartwarming! love the story, the art, and the music.. well done guys!
The story is really inspiring, the backgrounds and the effects really pull this to a higher levels, blends well with the animations. The music reminds me on 2000's Malaysian 2D animations. I'm actually cried watching this. Really beautifully made.
@@rafiali7466 um no hate but he said "Malaysian Art" Malaysian Art is GENERAL not only focusing on Batik.. So let's say if some Malaysian paint the Batik. It's still Indoensian Art? Umm that's weird🤔
@Alissa Batik is from Indonesia BUT Indonesian Batik and Malaysian Batik are both different. Indonesian Batik is associated with Javanese culture and the pattern is based on Flora and Fauna. But Malaysian Batik is associated with Arabic culture and the pattern is ONLY based Flora because it's quite related to Islam religion. Islam forbids the living things (not including Flora) in its art such as animals and so on because it might replace with the One (Allah). So Some Indonesians, stop claiming yuh😉 no hate but just telling the truth and read history about batik if some of you are triggered😊 sorry for bad English
The Malay batik history is different since Hang Nadim was ordered by Sultan of Malacca to bring batik cloth from India. Hang Nadim went to India but he disliked the Indian design. He created his own design and brought back his batik creations to Malacca.
guys.. please don't fighting.. and don't be such a dumba*s.. Malaysia has their own Batik.. Indonesia has their own Batik.. Philippine has their own Batik.., Brunei, Egypt, Africa, etc.. HAS THEIR OWN BATIK! and Batik in each "countries" has a different patterns... Back then.. there's no such thing as "Philippine","Malaysia","Brunei", "Singapore" or "Indonesia" .. just NUSANTARA! that's why we have a similarities.. cause back then we used to lived together as ONE!
Batik is one of my daily wear at home.. Didn't know it would be this beautiful in animation. I'm glad R&D studio has made this 2D animation & I would love to see cartoon series with batik motive.. Good job R&D studio! 👏🏻
HISTORY OF MALAYSIA BATIK Wax resist dyeing of fabric is an ancient art form & already existed in Egypt in the 4th century BC (sebelum masihi). In Asia, the technique was practised in China during 618-907 AD(tahun masihi) & in India 645-794 AD(tahun masihi). In Sulalatus Salatin menuscript (between 15th and 16th centuries), Tanah Melayu (now known as Malaysia) legend goes when Laksamana Hang Nadim was ordered by Sultan Mahmud to sail to India to get 140 pieces of sarasa cloth (hand-painted Indian chintz/sarasa; type of Indian batik) with 40 types of flowers depicted on each. Unable to find any that fulfilled the requirements explained to him, he made up his own. On his return unfortunately, his ship sank and he only managed to bring 4 pieces, earning displeasure from the Sultan. Since the that time, Malaysian batik really influenced by India hand-painted chintz which is lots of big florals motifs & follows Islamic values; the motifs not related god divinity/figure (not like some type of Java batik that contains religion figures & painted with indigo, dark brown & white colour which represent the 3 major Hindu Gods; Brahma, Visnu and Siva).

Kudos to the team for making this amazing masterpiece. Totally breathtakingly awesome! Loving the whimsical elements you added onto the batik patterns😍
Great animation quality, just like those Japan anime, they combine those 3d & 2d altogether at the same time.. just Wow.. & they present our culture & art to the whole new level.. keep up the great work..
it's ok to cry...our world have to kind of view...the beautiful one and the ugly one...to me they do not exist cuz all humans born in this world to be perfect...
What a good video, teringat balik waktu sekolah belajar mencanting batik. Belajar nak letak lilin dia bukan main payah lagi, takut terbakar tangan. Good memories
